Yes ... if SJ wins, they get the lowest seed, which would be Chicago or Calgary. We would play Vancouver. If Anaheim wins, we're the highest seed left and would play the lowest, which would be Anaheim. Vancouver would play Chicago or Calgary.

Also I think it's worth noting (and I'm not a big fan of the old appeal to authority, but here goes ... ) that there has been, to my knowledge, no indication that the NHL is planning on having a hearing with Avery. They were pretty quick in disciplining Lucic and Carcillo, and they sure as hell aren't going to cut Avery any slack. If this remains the case (no hearing), it's a pretty clear indication that the NHL doesn't see this as being a particularly serious offense. Doesn't mean you have to agree with the NHL, but it is what it is...

That's fine, but not really relevant. The crux of the argument is whether he should be suspended for his ACTIONS, not for being a disgraceful human being.

Shoreline, I guess it's a matter of perspective. If you see what happened as Avery sucker-punching a goalie, then I guess you would be justified in your outrage and in wanting him suspended. That's not what I saw when I watched the game yesterday, and it's not what I see watching the replay. I equate what I saw to a hard facewash or a shove, which as you said happen after every whistle. It is true that these things don't usually happen to the goalie, which is why the penalty he received was justifiable. But a suspension for something as common as a facewash or a shove ... not from my perspective.

It wasn't shrugged off, he was given a penalty for his actions. But his actions consisted of essentially a shove/facewash to the goaltender. What kind of precedent does it set if he IS suspended? No shoving/facewashing at the end of games? Not to mention Varlamov initiated the incident ...

Regardless, both are substantially different from what basically amounts to a facewash.

It was hardly a punch, and comparing it to cross-checking a guy in the face (Lucic) and hitting a guy with the butt-end of your stick (Carcillo) is ridiculous.

I was watching the game and thought it was all pretty silly at the time. Looking at the replay, it still is. If you look right around :55 of the clip, after getting cross-checked, Avery gets up and starts skating away when Varlamov gives him a stick in the ass. That's why he turned around and started jawing. I wouldn't call it a punch, more like a shove. Does it deserve a penalty? Sure. Suspension? Come on ...

Exactly, he's just trying to get some calls on the faceoffs to help his team out. It's no different than opposing coaches bitching about goaltender intererence when there isn't any, and then we get 3 goals called back the next game ... and yes, that will probably be Hitch's next complaint. My question is, what the hell does this mean:
