#24 should be retired? But to who?

I honestly skimmed the first and third page of this thread, but I have a suggestion. Official 'off limits' numbers, according to Wiki anyway, fall under 2 categories. Formally retired and 'out of circulation'. This off season makes it a great time to bring up the point. Modano wanted to 'flip' his 9 and make it a 6 but the organization brought Larry Aurie to his attention and drove his decision to the #90. Aurie's number was never formally retired, but our organization stood by explaining to a player why it should not be taken. Maybe our organization could just speak to guys coming to us, quietly, that we have had one historically great and tragically deceased player wear the number 24 and yet another do the number strong justice but has since retired and geuinely discourage, but not protest anyone from wearing it to honor them both?

Designer shares idea for new rink

Yours is a MUCH better choice than the proposed mock up. As someone else said, those rows of seating would have to be VERY high up to accommodate 20,000. While The Joe is old and outdated, the biggest perk of the place, aside from history, is that there isn't a bad seat in it for any event. Also I think that the steps/seating rows are way too steep...the expansion of seat space and leg room furthers the higher rows argument. The Joe was planned and constructed masterfully. Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping The Joe and giving it an updated face lift. A new Olympia would be my strong second choice even though I'm too young to have any memory of the the Olympia.

    Jersey Purchase

While this is a strong possibility, it's not really a downfall. Accuracy is important, but it goes to show down the line how long you've been a fan of your player of choice. I'm personally very proud of my Draper jersey with no letters on it.

What is it why you're a fan of this team?

I don't know, I'm strictly a hockey fan. I don't like to watch teams of any other sports, local or not. The Red Wings are it for me, anyway. And that goes with my first post.

Thank you, better than I said it

What is it why you're a fan of this team?

I will say I started paying attention to the Wings in 95-96 when my parents started playing the games and i saw us win in 96-97. I was 12 and 13 at the time and didn't understand hockey as much as I do these days. But, if we turned into a complete goon team, I would not approve. While I appreciate a good open ice hit (not goonery)...I do not approve of a team full of cheap shots and goonery. While one player can misconstrue a team like one fan can misconstrue a fan base, I don't look at teams in that light. But when a handful on a rival team of 20 are blatantly obvious, it deserves armchair hate. And Missy, TY

What is it why you're a fan of this team?

As many have said, I was born and raised in metro Detroit, watching and cheering for the Wings. We have changed many players and employees, that hasn't changed my loyalty. The only thing that could stop my love of the team would be to move away and/or re-identify themselves. This team has a very storied and loyal past, especially being original 6. To abandon this city and everything that has been built...legends, tradition, legacy, and most important...loyalty. would be a slap in the face to every fan, local or not. Who cares if you have a personal connection to the city of Detroit? The team abandoning it's entire identity? Regardless of the reason...would be unacceptable.

WCSF Game 4 GDT: Sharks 1 at Red Wings 7

If anyone has a pic of the 4 Sharks in the box, please pass it on to me. I would like to make it my desktop wallpaper. Thank you.
  12. Eh, Howie and Ozzy are very similar. They both make spectacular highlight-reel saves and hold us up when they need to, but let in some of the softies. Aside from Ozzy's rust, I think we would be in the same boat either way, to be honest.
  13. I blame taking a break and trying to sit on a 2 goal lead on tonight's loss. If anything is consistent, it's this and has been for years. A 2 goal lead isn't a sure-fire win and we've been acting like it has been for a long time. As for the last 2, I'll be in the corner crafting my tin-foil head gear and continue to be pissed at the refs for the 10 PKs we had in the last game alone.
  14. A shoddy job, but hey, here ya go.

    No Worries

I think a lot of people are 'angry enough' but won't bother because we all know it will fall on deaf ears (or blind eyes, being a letter). The league and the officials association blindly backs the calls, pretty much no matter what. And since I'm here I'll throw in my two cents. Last night angered me as much as anyone else. Yes some of the calls were legit, yes some of the calls on the Sharks were bogus, yes we ABSOLUTELY need to be better in the faceoff circle, yes our discipline did start to fall apart, BUT walking out of the game last night my attitude was: ******* angry but overall aside from faceoffs the Wings played their hearts out and kept themselves in the game with an even score despite being mobbed, baited, called, non-calls and I can't fault them for that. I will have to agree with whoever posted in one of the 3 threads I have tabbed about last night's game, however. If the refs keep deciding games, I as well, will be taking a long break from watching hockey. I am not wearing a tin foil hat, nor am I crying conspiracy. The officiating has been disgusting LEAGUE-WIDE. I have been a hockey fan since 1996 (at which point I was 11 years old), I couldn't bring myself to watch other teams games this season, I watch our games because I AM a Red Wings fan. I am not a blind one, though. As I said, this is a league-wide problem and if this s*** continues to decide our games, I'm really over it until something changes.

Someone's not happy with Red Wings fans.....

LOL -The Coyotes were founded in 1972 as the Winnipeg Jets of the World Hockey Association (WHA), joining the NHL in 1979 and moving to Phoenix in 1996 -The practice started April 15, 1952 when Pete and Jerry Cusimano, brothers and storeowners in Detroit's Eastern Market, hurled an octopus into the rink of The Old Red Barn We've been throwing octopi longer than they've had a team.

Where to eat before Wings game

I personally love Greektown. Parthenon, Pegasus, Pizza Papalis, and if those are all packed 5 Guys is great too. Greektown has started charging for event parking, but if you go in and get one of their free player's cards, you can park there for free. There's a people mover stop in the casino that will take you straight to the Joe. Every time i go downtown for anything, my day starts in the Greektown parking garage lol.
