    The scene at Hockeytown tonight

I'm going tonight and we're parking at Greektown and walking. We did that on Tuesday, even though we were too late to get in, and it wasn't far at all from the garage.

    Win This One For....

Yes! This is a great reason! Win this one for eveything already stated. Win this one for YES the unemployed fans. Some of us are so die hard that we would scrape together enough just to go to a game! If I could have I would have! I got to go to my first playoff game ever this year because of a great and generous friend, though! Just because we can't afford tickets, doesn't mean we don't love and support our beloved hockey team! Win it so that those of us who are unemployed and can't afford a game can still go to the parade in the hundreds of thousands or million+ can show our love! (While the ticket prices are high, they are some of the lowest for home playoff games. I, among many, could still not afford them, but that's the truth.) Win this one so Dan O'halloran can Boo-Hoo that he couldn't disallow goals because of Holmer's ass. Win this one to show that even if we have our beloved traditions stripped from us, we can still win. (Nobody tune into NBC/CBC for parade coverage if we do win!) Win this one for all the fans, damnit! (and not to be selfish, but) Win it because I came home just for the finals and the potential victory. **I wish this thread could go straight to the locker room as motivation instead of that douchebag picture of Guerin. I think it would go miles further...

    pump up audio

I think the intro to last year's DVD with Rev Theory does a really good job. I'm gonna watch that before I leave for hockeytown tomorrow, I think. Edit: I love this, too:

    Round 3 Game 3

I don't know how many people may be interested, but I had an idea for game 3. This will be the only game I will be in town for, sadly. Sorry I have been slacking on the posting and chat room action, I've had very sparse internet from the road. I will still be working, but the band I work for is playing at the I-Rock in Detroit. I already spoke with the club and they will 100% have the game on all of the TVs, so if anyone likes a good rock show, I will be at the I-Rock with the band Bobaflex on the 22nd for game 3. If anyone thinks it would be a good idea, feel free to let me know, or just show up. You will be able to find me at the merch table, most likely. Cover is $12, and there should be a handful of other good bands there as well.

    Wings Will Lose Why?

Couldn't agree more! There was quite an odd combination of shouting then simultaneous cheering and hysterical laughter that erupted in my basement last night. It was awesome.

WCQF GAME 2 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blue Jackets 0

I wish I could meet up with yall at Chelis! Unfortunately my playoff tradition is that my buddy HAS to watch the games at my house. The ONLY games we lost last post season were the ones he wasnt here. I have to be the enforcer on that now haha! He's cool as hell, though. He said he's gonna come over and watch with my dad even when I'm on the road...AND he's going to have a 'fundraiser' party to raise money to buy Game Center for me to watch the games while I'm on the road. I'm a lucky girl.

Where Can I Watch Game 2?

I'm debating what to do for rounds 2 & 3 while I'm on the road. Shell out for Game Center? Take the discount on hockeystreams and worry about the random wifi connections not working? Rely on adthe? Any insight?

    stream of tonights game?

Wait, you paid for Game Center and still can't watch the game? Thanks for saving me $80!
  17. Unemployment rate, the risk of layoffs, the economy are all a HUGE factor. It's not hard to research the history of the team and arena and the LONG sellout streak they had. It's also not hard to google when all the major layoffs began. There's a pretty direct correlation to that as well. Between not having jobs and the fear of losing jobs...just sayin' I realize that the Wings tickets are cheaper than a lot of other teams. My point is that they know damn well that they're going to have a damn hard time filling the arena, espcially in the earlier rounds. Like someone else brought up earlier about JLA contacting the Jacket Backers with a discount. Again I realize that Wings tickets are cheaper than a lot of markets, but honestly would it kill them to drop the prices a bit more. Wouldn't they rather make SOME money, put a bigger crowd and motivator in the arena for the team? Guess not. They'd rather just let the seats go empty and lose a lot more than they would if they brought the tickets down by another $15. If tickets were $35 out the door, it would be a lot easier, but even with the promo at $30, after ticketmaster sends you through the ringer, it's still almost $50. Point being, If the Joe say they made $45 a ticket now and had (with the floating stat) 10,000 empty seats. They lose $450,000 potentially. Say they drop tickets down to $30 and move 7,000 of those empty 10k seats. They still lose $240,000 but they make up $210,000. (and yeah yeah i know that's not how it would be exactly broken down, it's just an example to make a point)
  18. I agree with you 1,000%, especially about the JLA and Jacket Backers thing. And i think the attendance of the parade last year should be case and point about this whole damn thing. If we win again this year I expect the turn out will be pretty damn close to the same. Case and point again.
  19. I'm with ya OsGOD. As everyone else said. The buzz is far from gone in Hockeytown. The buzz is as loud as ever. Poke your head into any BW3 or sports bar or one of the many houses having a playoff party. The only thing that's gone is butts in seats at JLA. So we've been in the playoffs for many, many years. So we're spoiled. We still love our team and watch the games enthusiastically. It's MUCH more effective to gather up al your friends in front of a TV and spend $15 bucks on a case of beer/$20 on a bar tab than it is to spend bare minimum $75+ (just ticket gas and parking nothing else) to go down to the Joe. If my bank, car insurance company and cell phone provider would like to give me a 'special Wings are in the playoffs and are playing to a half empty arena' pass on my bills this month, I'll pony up and buy a ticket. It's much more possible at all for most of us to split a case of beer with some friends and turn on the tv and yell and cheer at it. Every single person that comes over here to watch games would MUCH rather be at JLA. It's just not possible for any of us. Half of my friends and family are on unemployment/desparately seeking work/working damn near minimum wage jobs. Anyway, enough of that. The point that I'm trying to make is that it's not that many, many people DON'T WANT TO go to the games. It's that they CAN'T. The buzz is alive and well. The cash flow and job market are what are dead.

    Throwing the Octopi

Basically an extended version of the already posted, thanks to wikipedia: There is a certain etiquette that must be followed for fans that wish to throw octopuses onto the ice.[3] Beforehand, an octopus should be boiled for at least 20 minutes on high heat with a little lemon juice and white wine. This will mask the creature's odor as well as reducing the amount of slime. A raw dead thrown octopus would result in a smelly ball that would stick to the ice upon impact and possibly leave an inky stain, while a well-boiled octopus will bounce and roll across the surface of the ice. After the octopus has been properly prepared it must be smuggled into the ice arena, as it is against the law in Detroit (and other NHL cities) for a fan to throw anything onto the ice during a game. A preferred method is to wrap the octopus in plastic (a trash bag or a large Ziploc bag will do) and then wrap the package around one's middle section to give the appearance of a beer belly. The most appropriate time to throw an octopus onto the ice is after the national anthem is sung or after the Red Wings have scored a goal. The octopus must be thrown onto the ice surface in an area that is clear of all players. It is never acceptable to aim for opposing players. Tactics are also used to protect the identity of octopus-throwers from arena security. It is common practice for the hurler to ask the surrounding people to stand up with him to shroud the task in anonymity. Experienced throwers grasp the octopus around the middle of its arms with the octopus's head (or more correctly, its mantle) hanging down near the thrower's knee and then swings the octopus with an overarm motion. Holding the octopus by the ends of its arms prior to the throw may result in the mantle of the octopus breaking off during the wind-up. After successfully participating in this peculiar tradition, the octopus thrower is left with a tell-tale indicator: stinky hands. It is advisable to bring along a wet wipe and a slice of lemon to assist in removing the odor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_Octopus

    red wings article in yahoo

It is sad, but damn. I'd love to go to another game if i could afford it. People in charge up here really think we don't go to games because we're just jaded? If they were so desparate to sell seats, maybe they should give the hometown fans better prices, rather than ringing up the out of town fans personally with bigger discounts. Full Price Ticket US $40.00 x 1 Total Convenience Charge(s) US $6.25 x 1 Order Processing Charge(s) US $4.35 Will Call No Charge TOTAL CHARGES US $50.60 $50 for 2nd from top row of the upper bowl, for ONE ticket. Not exactly feasible for a lot of people. (and this being before transportation, parking, etc) I mean i know it is playoff time, but wouldn't it make sense to make the seats cheaper and fill em rather than lose all that money all together? I know they'd probably make up some of the difference on concessions/beer/souvineers. I wouldn't be able to and i know a lot of people wouldn't either, but people are gonna buy stuff when they go to the game if they can... I know a hell of a lot of people that would kill to go to a game.

Streaming for All NHL Playoff Games

Yeah I'll just have to do the trial or something. My problem is, even if it is nationally broadcast, there aren't any tvs around to watch hockey. I work for a band, so most of the clubs that we play at either don't have tvs or won't be too interested in putting on out of market hockey games, even if there is a tv in the vicinity of where i'll be set up. That or during afternoon games we'll be driving, etc. My schedule doesn't match up with any games unless I'm at a club with wifi and can watch on my laptop. lol I know I'm probably SOL. At least I'll be home for round 1 & 4.
