Oh i trust you, this just got me curious cause i never heard anything about it. Not even a murmor and i live in Toledo.
-
This is so stupid. And the NHL wonders why they cant get "new" fans. They carry games on a channel that most of the country cant get. Brilliant! So the game isnt gonna be on FSD, i take it? Not even a VS feed or anything? If not im so disappointed in the NFL and VS. right now. I do have that sopcast, but id rather watch it on my tv and not the little ass screen.
-
Again you have NO idea what your talking about. The Wings havent run Kipper. Like tweek said 95% of the time the Wing landed on Kipper its cause his own damn team checked them into their own goalie. Example, the Maltby penalty today. Even the NBC announcers said that wasnt a penalty.
-
I dont think you know what your talking about. Blaming basically everything thats happened on the Wings. Please get outta here. Just my 2 cents.
-
Anyone else tired of the poor officiating in this series? Can we get a real game. I mean even the games we've won the refs have been awful. And imo the refs helped the outcome of the last 2 games. And no its not sour grapes. It might be if the Wings just flat out played bad, but we've played very well each of the last 2 games. Tonights game was just awfully officiated. I think there were 4 straight hooking penalties. None of which actually hooked the player. Maybe im just frustrated, but this is ridiculous.
-
Mickey was going crazy last night. I remember on one call(well non call at first), the crowd yelled and booed...and 5 secs afterwards the refs arm went up. I mean come on, what is with that? I do think that home crowds can affect the way an official see's the game sometimes(not all just some). And is it just me or do Calgary fans boo every time one of their players falls to the ice? I was getting annoyed by that. Needless to say i still think we win this series. I hope the officiating gets a lot better. And the NHL needs to work on what type of game they are gonna let play during the playoffs. Im sick of seeing an exciting regular season, and a marginal post season. I mean seriously who even watched the Stanley Cup finals last year? I know i didnt. Nobody wants to see lower seeds play each other every year in the finals.
-
I agree. I just dont get it. I mean 3 of the 4 hooking calls the player wasnt even hooked. And on Iginla's he had one hand on stick and hardly tugging on Cheli. Should not have been a penalty. Its been brutal both ways. To Calgary's credit they are atleast capatalizing on the awful officiating whereas the Wings are not. Im not blaming the refs for the loss. I do believe they helped the outcome with some of their awful calls at awful times. The Wings didnt help the cause by playing bad on the PP and PK. But you gotta admit those calls were brutal. My cousin who was watching that 2nd period with me(who btw barely watches hockey) agreed those were brutal calls on both teams.
-
imo the only thing Detroit didnt play well on was the PP and PK(obviously).
-
Yeah but its not all the fans, just a select dumbasses that decide to get too drunk and act like an ass. I went to 1 game this year, it was awfully officiated and after the game was over some idiot through a chair on the ice and took off running. lucky for him the cops didnt see him. as for the anthem, they usually just use local singers now([probably cause of the newman incident). karen obviously had no idea to pause lol. oh well i think its just all in good fun. i remember you telling me that in the other Storm thread we had going. it sucks that one person can ruin the whole experience for you. but yeah i dont go to the bathroom when i go there, i did last time only cause i couldnt hold it anymore and me and my friends cut in line so we didnt have to stay in that bathroom long lol. this new arena is supposed to be amazing, costing i think roughly $85 million. i bet they pick up an affiliate just for a year or 2, until the new Toledo team comes back. there are a few teams in the echl that arent affiliated yet with any NHL club, and ofcourse they could always share a team as an affiliate.
-
Im not gonna turn this into any political debate or patriotic debate, but i take offense to you call us inbreds. Cause im from Toledo, lived here my whole life. I hold it sacred, i dont even yell hit somebody(cause i rarely go cause i cant cause my work schedule doesnt really allow me too). but i still dont think its bad, because the singer pauses. its not like they are yelling it while they are in the middle of the words. but whatever to each his own i guess.
-
ah well. i dont think its bad at all.
-
All they say is hit "somebody." Dont see how that is disrespectful. They say it in between "O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave(singer pauses) yells hit somebody! O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?" They are bringing in a new team and building a new arena. They on breaking ground on the new arena later this year.

Yeah i forgot to put this in my initial post. But the Hens will get rid of the Storm name and organization completely. i just hope when they do bring a new organization they dont name the team something corny. kind of funny and ironic. but the storm actually updated their logo last season for their 15th anniversary, and i believe it was no longer the worst logo in sports. they kept that logo for this season
-
Yeah it doesnt really work all that well. Im not sure if they make the kids pay or what, i bet they just give them a huge discount on tickets. but if only a handful of people are showing up its pointless to have it anyways. and i know the fans are pretty nasty there, so its probably why they do it at 1030am.
-
Yeah its some promotional thing they do, for the school kids. it doesn work as well as it does for the Hens. The Hens have 2 games a season that start at like 1030am, and so do the Storm. Which is nice, but like you said its dumb to have a game the day before especially if its a road game. And they should maybe have it on a Friday morning where more people could possibly get off work to actually go to the games.

The article states that if the Mud Hens purchased the team theyd make sure it stayed in the ECHL, because basically they realize an AHL team here might be outta of our market. So to speak i guess.
-
A new article from today in the Toledo blade. Sounds a bit more promising that some form of minor league hockey will be played in Toledo next season... http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...80418/-1/SPORTS
-
I agree that last quote scares me. I dont understand why the Hens would want the Storm out of Toledo. Even with the Storm in Toledo, the Hens are STILL Toledo. I mean if you ask a person not from around here what Toledo is best known for usually its Jamie Farr, Katie Holmes and the Mud Hens(not in any order). So i dont see/get why the Hens would want the Storm gone. Besides it makes NO sense whatsoever to get rid of hockey if they really are building this new arena. Whats the point in building it if they are just gonna try and get rid of the team for good.

Here is an article from the toledoblade.com doesnt sound too good for the Storm, Storm GM Pat Pyluipuik doesnt sound too pleased. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...RTS10/703220419

Ah gotcha, yeah id be pissed to if that happened to my jersey. And your right it does get pretty cramped in there. Its why i usually buy boxed seats when i go. Since i only get to go to one or 2 games a year i just sit in those seats. Im not 100% sure. But their last regular season game is April 7th which is a saturday, so im thinking the following Tuesday or Wednesday.
-
I agree the bathrooms there are pretty nasty. When i do make it to a game i rarely EVER go to the bathroom. Other than that i dont think the seating is horrible, not really a bad seat in the place imo. I usually sit close anyways. And i always get good parking cause i usually get there about an hour before game time...uaually just to watch the guys warm up.
-
Im kind of hoping its not an AHL franchise we get here. Cause then more than likely Detroit wouldnt be the new Toledo teams affiliate. And i love watching players come through Toledo and eventually play in Detroit. I remember seeing Ellis play, Bootland, and a few others as well.

I was about to say that i dont think the new Cleveland team is the new ECHL team. Cause ive been following the new ECHL teams that are coming in and Cleveland was never mentioned. I think Myrtle Beach, a team in Florida, California and Reno, Nevada have new teams coming in the next couple years or so. As for the team folding i still havent heard anything. I would have thought if something was rumored or said that the Toledo Blade would have picked up on it. But i checked their site yesterday and the only thing that came up was a rumor of Pat Pyluipuk was resigning. If the team folded im not sure what would happen if they came back or not. I may not be as into it as i am now. Anyone have any memories of watching the Storm play throughout the years? A couple of mine are... - I was at this game and I dont recall the exact year(i wanna say around 1996), but Toledo was playing the Jacksonville Lizard Kings in the playoffs. The game went into overtime. Toledo won the faceoff, skated around for a bit and then the player with the puck skates up the right side of the rink(the goalies left side), he fires a slap shot over the goalies right shoulder, scoring the game winner. TSA went absolutely bonkers, it was 15 seconds into OT too. - Ive seen many many many many brawls 5 on 5, 6 on 6 brawls. But one that stands out was Toledo was playing the Louisville River Frogs. Alex Cole a Storm player had just won a fight i believe he got up and motioned to the crowd as we roared, well a River Frogs player comes out of nowhere and blind sides call shattering his jaw. Set off a big brawl to say the least. I think Cole was done for most of the season and drinking out of a straw for awhile.

I watched that game the other night on bcsn. Awesome game to say the least. As for whats going on with the team this is news to me. They said something during the telecast and it through me off. The commentators just said that it still was up in the air as to what was gonna happen next year with the team. I had no idea they were being sold or whatever again. I know a few years ago Barry Soskin or whatever his name is had to buy the team back just to keep them afloat. As for what would happen if there was no Toledo hockey it would be a sad sad day.

I dunno, if we are gonna do this. Why not just let Jimmy Howard start next season? He's obviously even cheaper, and his ceiling is higher. Why trade prospects and/or draft picks for a guy who more than likely is just gonna be a rental for a year or 2.
