I've seen a lot of posters make the assertion that the Wings games aren't selling out due to overpriced tickets. I am curious to know how much the tickets actually are compared to the price of Sharks tickets.... Here are the playoff ticket prices for individual games (Season Ticket Holders pay much less than this) Reg Season --> Rd. 1 --> Rd. 2 --> Rd. 3 --> Rd. 4 ----->$18 ------>$30 ----> $54 ----> $104 -->$184 (upstairs upper corners) ----->$29 ------>$41 ----> $65 ----> $115 -->$195 (upstairs upper sideline) ----->$35 ------>$50 ----> $80 ----> $140 -->$230 (upstairs lower corners) ----->$43 ------>$58 ----> $88 ----> $148 -->$238 (upstairs lower sideline) ----->$65 ------>$80 ----> $120 ---> $195 -->$295 (upstairs rim) ----->$60 ------>$85 ----> $125 ---> $200 -->$300 (downstairs upper corners) ----->$71 ------>$91 ----> $131 ---> $206 -->$306 (downstairs upper sideline) ----->$86 ------>$111 ---> $161 ---> $241 -->$366 (downstairs glass corners) ----->$91 ------>$116 ---> $166 ---> $246 -->$371 (Club corners) ----->$101 ----->$126 ---> $176 ---> $256 -->$381 (Club sideline) ----->$125 ----->$160 ---> $230 ---> $315 -->$465 (Club glass) How do playoff tickets at the Joe compare?

Yes, but was that the same one that Yc172 was talking about smuggling in to the Joe when he/she started this thread? I'd like to hear the rest of that story...
-
True. There was that whole rat thing in Florida that got WAAAAAYYYYYY out of hand. But I can't see the octopus thing getting that out of hand because it's so disgusting. I mean, sure all the fans love it, but how many are willing to DO IT? If I were a dyed-in-the-wool life long Wings fan I'd still think twice about shoving a dead smelly mollusk into my purse. That's just nasty.
-
If octopus chucking is this known tradition going back 50 some odd years, and the Wings PR Dept. has made a fortune out of marketing the octopus as a symbol of your team, then why on earth are people tossed from the game when tossing seafood onto the ice? It seems contradictory. Isn't this behavior implicitly encouraged by the Wings? I don't get it.

Thank you. Nabby is a very good goalie. Not perhaps in the league of Hasek, who though he may have lost a step, is still an exceptional goalie to be reckoned with. Hasek has experience on his side no doubt about it. I know that many posters have said not to take his age into account, but still, he's no spring chicken and he has had injury problems in the past. Hopefully, those are fully behind him now. One thing Nabby has in his corner is intangibles....#1 Desire to prove himself -- Hasek's been there, done that. He's got a Cup already. Does he still have the fire in his belly needed to go the distance? Nabby's never done it. He needs to prove to himself and the naysayers that he is an elite goalie. That big shiny silver thing would go a long way towards that goal. #2 Warren Strelow. Nabby's playing for his coach, mentor and father figure who died on opening night of the playoffs. He's going to work his ass off to make Warren proud. Should be a great series. Yikes! Less than 2 hours to go....

OK -- Cheech & Ron's Up in Smoke is really really great. If we're going with a movie theme, I submit for your viewing pleasure....

QFT I will never forget the hit he put on Petr Cajanek in the Playoffs a few years ago. Cajanek left the game immediately after the hit and wasn't seen again. Standing O from the crowd. What a thing a beauty.

Speaking as a total outsider who's never seen this commercial until now, I'm curious as to why your PR Dept. would choose "Red Wave" as your playoff marketing campaign slogan. Am I the only one who gets flashbacks from the movie "Clueless"? Mr. Hall: Cher, you are tardy. Cher: I was surfing the crimson wave. I had to haul ass to the ladies'. Ick.

No, I am not the one about whom you've been told. That would be the lovely and talented Lady Stanley. Come to the Feeder and check out her many "articles" threads. She culls the web for all newspaper/blog/website articles pertaining to the Sharks and/or this upcoming series between our two fine teams and then posts links to each one. You can find dozens of links per post in the daily threads. It's one-stop-shopping for all your hockey news. Me? I'm just a loudmouth troublemaker at the Feeder.... EDIT: David -- that video almost made me go all sqwicky :puke: & Rep -- good job!!!

Hey! Be nice. I’ve met this guy and he is really nice. It’s an amazing paint job that takes hours to complete. Very striking to see in person. His wife/gf is a graphic artist, I believe, and does all the art for him. He’s a pretty dedicated fan. More pics of him: Front View Side View Hey, hey, hey – give us time. We didn’t know that a cross-board war photoshop war was afoot. astrodoggie came on board to The Feeder and opened a Sharks/Wings Graphics thread at 4:00 this afternoon, but until that time, I don’t think we’ve ever had a photoshop battle on our board before. Give us a few days to throw some thing together before you judge too harshly. And on that note… Here is my contribution to that thread…

Man, everyone on this board is going to hate me forever..... I was introduced to hockey by a guy I was dating during the 1993 playoffs, WCF Leafs vs. Kings. I became I huge Leafs fan because I hated all to do with SoCal and I liked the fact that their name was ungrammatical. Plus the Leafs were really good then, with Dougie Gilmore and Wendell Clark, my two favorite player. Fast forward to the start of the next season and the SJ Sharks move from playing 50 miles away at the Cow Palace in Daly City to the brand spanking new SJ Arena in downtown San Jose. Guy I am dating gets us tickets to a SJ/Pens game early in the season -- I see Super Mario and Jagr play and am dazzled. Go to a few games that season, watch all games on TV, gradually learn the rules of the sport, and get sucked into the mounting excitement of the largest single season turnaround in NHL history and making the playoffs. But the thing that cemented my love forever for the Men in Teal was that 1st round upset of the Wings in 1994. Yeah, I know it must have been REALLY bad for you all -- but you have no idea what that series meant to the city of San Jose, who had always been the ugly step sister to the more glamorous San Francisco to the North. Beating the Wings gave San Jose a sense of accomplishment – we were the little team that could. It was just a city-wide love affair. We gave the team a parade when the lost to the Leafs in the second round for goodness sakes. That was the defining moment that hooked me on hockey forever. Y'all hate me now? Cheechoo is NOTHING like Tootoo. Tootoo is a marginally talented scrub, a poor man’s Tyson Nash. His only purpose is to take other players off their game. He has no added value; his value is in detracting from the opponent’s value. He is addition by subtraction. He is also a dirty cheapshot artist who should be beaten with a tire iron and fed ground glass. He also fights like a girl and regularly gets his ass handed to him. Cheechoo, on the other hand, plays hard in the sense that he will go to the ugly areas to score and he will fight for position to stay there. But he’s not a dirty player by any stretch of the imagination. He’s go sweet hands (hello Rocket Richard) and horrifying feet (he skates like a Weeble – you know, “Weebles wobble but they don’t fall downâ€Â). Cheech will regularly trip over the blue line and then score from an impossible angle on the next shift. I love him to death because he tries so damn hard. He’s endearing. Why don’t y’all move closer to us? We’re close to the coast, why would we want to move inland away from the beaches? What if you moved the Red Wings to Iowa or Nebraska even Wyoming? That way your games would be on at a decent hour compared to ours and you wouldn’t have to compete with the Lions, Tigers or Pistons (you should really rename your basketball team to the Bears – oh my!)

Meh. As I pointed out in the other thread that had that video posted in it....it was only a little Shark that octopus ate at 3-4 feet long. I've swum with Sharks bigger than the one in that video. A full-grown great white is a whole 'nother kettle o' fish. Which is apropos when you figure that the Sharks are the largest avg. NHL team... Still...that is one crazy video...

Best thing about round 2, playing an AMERICAN team.

Actually, there will be a fair number of Wings fans at the Tank for this series. There are A LOT of ex-Detroiters who've moved away and resettled in the Bay Area. Every time the Wings play at the Tank we see them sporting their red Yzerman sweaters. I think 39 home games per year at theTank they root for the Sharks until their Wings come to town and then all bets are off. Trust me, you will be able to hear that annoying "Let's Go Red Wings" chant over the TV, at least until we manage to drown them out. Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Drew was San Jose's FSN TV color-guy from 00-06 and before that he was the radio color guy from 97-00. He had the best on-air repartee with Randy Hahn, the TV play-by-play guy. Every time I hear himon CBC I get all misty. I miss Drew every Sharks broadcast and wish he didn't want to move back to Canada to raise his family there. Selfish prick! Now we're got Marty McSorely on the TV side, and he's just no Drew, although he is improving. -
Yes, well -- but they were just little Sharks at 3-4 feet in length. I've swum with bigger ones. Bear in mind, too, that San Jose Sharks are the largest average team in the NHL... I know we were the youngest average, too at one point, but that was before the Guerin and Rivet acquisions. I'm not sure if we're the youngest team anymore, but I'm pretty sure we're still the biggest....Don't know how the Giant Octopus would fare against full grown Great White Sharks...

Meh, I dunno. Sure, your guys are fresh from the fight, but they might also be a bit bumped and briused as well -- a little rest right now could have done them a world of good. Our guys might be "rusty" from the layoff, but then again, the Preds series was very physical and I think the rest can only do them good, especially Cheechoo, who almost had his knee blown out courtesy of a filthy knee-on-knee hit by Hartnell in game 1. Cheech was definately skating much slower and worse than usual in games 2-5. I'm hoping the time off will have given him time to heal somewhat so that he can get back to his usual skating prowess (she said, tongue in cheek). I don't see the layoff for the Sharks as being anything but a positive for them. I expect them to come out raring to go in game one versus the Wings. Yeah, some of the Sharks fans might be taking the Wings too lightly for Wings fans' tastes, but I guarantee that the Sharks themselves won't be doing this. They know they have a tough row to hoe ahead. I have confidence in my boys. -
As a die hard Sharks fan all I gotta say is....that's really cute! Good job.

Worse. Game one and Hartnell takes out Chechoo with a knee-on-knee and gets tossed from the game. Game 2 -- they boo Cheechoo for playing ono his hurt knee. Apparently, he was "faking." Game 2 -- Radulov takes out Bernier with a check from behind. As Bernier lays unconscious onthe ice they boo him as he stakes off with assistance -- he was faking again. Game 5 Nicol tossed from the game for spearing Erhoff. Preds fans up in arms 'cause he was barely touched. The refs wer aginst the Preds and they lost because of a vast NHL-wide conspiracy, not due to undisciplined play by their team. Morons.

I honestly don't see that happening because I can't see either the Wings or Sharks resorting to the kind of goonish play that Calgary and Nashville have resorted to when trying to win. Win or lose, i have confidence that our two teams will play with class. It's only when one team resorts to thuggery and then their fans try to justify it that flame wars tend to erupt. That alays boggles my mind -- how do you justify a knee-on-knee or checking from behind??? Rep & TZ -- nice to see you here! And is that Copper I spy with my little eye?

Well first off to answer some of your points.... 1) The Sharks Defense. Yes they are a younger squad than most, but on the whole, still very solid. Especially with the arrival of Rivet from the Habs, he has settled the D down a lot. Also, the youngest youngin on the Sharks Defensive core, Marc-Edouard Vlasic is flat out very very good. He led the team in ice time as a 19 year old for most of the season. Plays like a seasoned vet. Hannan is also a very poised Defenseman who has shut down Forsberg in the past. 2) The Sharks Offense. In a word: Balanced. The Sharks get scoring from ALL FOUR LINES. And more importantly, Ron Wilson regularly rolls all four lines, keeping them fresh. He doesn't usually shorten his bench and overplay Thornton and Marleau who for the most part play on separate lines to spread out the scoring threat. Plus the Sharks forwards have size and speed. I think the Wings may have more trouble shutting down the Sharks forwards then you are giving them credit for. 3) Goaltending. No Nabby is no Kipper. In point of fact, the Sharks actually HAD Kipper and decided that Nabby was better and traded him off to Calgary for a second rounder that turned into Marc-Edouard Vlasic. But yes, although Kipper has been a Vezina caliber goalie, that doesn't make Nabby chopped liver, either. he didn't win the Calder for nothing. Plus, you need to factor in the intangible that Nabby's mentor and father figure Warren Strelow, his goalie coach and confidant for the last decade died on opnening night of the playoffs. Nabby has something to play for. 4) Special teams. The Sharks PP wasn't good at all against the Preds. But all season long it ran hot and cold and it was still good enough for 2nd overall. Now's about the time for it to start running hot again. 5) The Wings are 3-0 on home ice. Yeah, well the Sharks are 2-0 on home ice. We didn't need to go to a 3rd home game to close out our opening series. 6) The Sharks had more wins than the Wings in the regular and played in a much tougher division to get those wins. The Wings got to feast on the likes of Columbus, Chicago & St. Louis all year long whicle we got to face the Ducks and Stars. A very even match up. Sharks in 6. -
Well, 1994 was HIGHLY entertaining for me.... That was when I really learned to deeply madly fall in love with hockey. 1995 wasn't so good -- y'all slaughtered us in a 4 game sweep with all of the games getting outscored by 4 goals minimum. I'm thinking this year won't be quite like that again, even if Vincanni thinks the Wings can pull this off in 3.

NOT the SJ Sharks Board from the official website. Although I do post there as well, but it gets kind of OT a lot and also can be juvenile as well. I'd invite all non-flaming types to come to The Feeder. We're a good group. The address is in my signature, actually....The Feeder Forums

Yello! Newbie to your board & Sharks fan here, not to flame, but to calmly discuss the upcoming series.... As as FYI -- the 9-4 game was with Hasek in net, and the Wings had a 3-0 lead in the first before the Sharks scored 9 unanswered goals. The Wings got the 4th goal late after all was decided (Sharks got either 5 or 6 on the PP I believe). But that was the regular season and this is now, so it doesn't matter too much. One thing to note....we havn't played you since you picked up Calder & Bertuzzi, fair enough. But you haven't played us since we picked up Guerin & Rivet, either. Here to an AWESOME series!!!
