hey guys, I need your good thoughts and prayers this way....
My cousin Tracy married this guy Tim 10 years ago. They had 2 little girls Maggie, and Erika. Last March they got a phone call from Tims mom saying that his sister Trish was 7 months pregnant, the only thing is Trish is mentally handicapped. Lets just say, it turns out that there were a couple of guys who were coming over and taking advantage of her. They knew that she wouldnt be able to take care of a child, so after a lot of thinking Tracy and Tim decided to adopt the baby. She was born in May and they have had her ever since. They have tried to adopt her but have come accross all kinds of issues with the police and adopting her. The police have all the DNA samples but they havent been run yet to see which guy is the father, and they cant adopt her until the Father signs off his rights. Which is just ridiculous. The guy who took advantage of a mentally handicapped girl has the right to his child? BS.
But thats not really why I am writing all this out. The baby, her name is Jackie, has some eye problems. She is only 4 and a half months old so they dont really know the extent of all of them or anything. But she has been to her pediatrician who recommended a Opthamologist. They just had that appointment this morning and the doctor confirmed that she is cross eyed, which everyone pretty much knew. But he also doesnt know how much vision she actually has or anything like that. Now I have held her before and not said a word and she will look towards me and smile and she does seem to follow things when they move, but that doesnt mean that she sees everything as she should. So they have to set up an appointment somewhere like DeVos or U of M to go in for further testing.
Here is where another issue comes into play, Jackie is on Medicade (or something like that) since she hasnt been fully adopted by my cousins, and they cant put her on their insurance until she is. And they were flat out told that since she is on that, that the appointment wouldnt be set until months from now. At which point if she is adopted and on their insurance the insurance company could say that it was a pre-existing condition and they wont cover it. Also, both doctors that they have talked to think that it would be best to get all the testing and possible surgery out of the way before she becomes too mobile.
So basically, if you guys could keep them all in your thoughts or prayers and send some positive vibes their way it would be much appreciated. She is the sweetest little baby and just because of the way she was brought into the world she is receiving the short end of the stick.
I debated making a thread about this, but I figured not the whole board looks in on this thread and I dont know if I really want everyone to know all about this. I have told a couple people from here already but I just needed to vent a little bit.
Here is Jackie, you can see that she is cross eyed, but she is the cutest little thing.
