    POST GAME - Game 1 (4/26) SJ 2 DET 0

While a win is a win is a win, I don't think there's any true Sharks fan that feels 100% comfortable with this win. Not in a best of 7 series. The fact that we couldn't sustain an attack through the last two periods makes me wonder if this is a sign of things to come. Sure, the Joe to Carle pass was a beauty, and the Grier goal was a heads up play... but Hasek was all OVER the puck, as was Nabby (the best Shark by far tonight). The one element missing was really physical play, and if the Wings bring that along with avoiding penalties, who knows. Lots of hockey left! Good luck to all!

Why oh why is the game BLACKED OUT?

FOr some &%*$@ reason, in Los Angeles, the Anaheim / Vancouver game is blacked out. The cable people don't know a thing. So I tried to get the game online, and succeeded, thanks to this following post. This is from the Ducks Boards, and I feel that I should pass this on, as NOBODY should be denied playoff hockey EVER. "1) make sure you have the following installed and updated to the most recent patch/softwareupdate/release - - VLC and Windows Media Player (WMP) (for viewing the games). SOP CAST and TVU Player (for accessing the games - if they are available on sopcast, you wont need tvu, but if they are only on sop, you need tvu, because they may be available through their channels..) EDIT from D13.... I Googled SOPCAST and found their software no problem. This is all I had to install. 2) On Game night, go to the following link: http://myp2p.eu/NHL.htm You will browse the page to find your game. Keep in mind that a game could be on the same channel that another is on, and they are waiting for another to end (not the case most of the times). Once you find the game you want to watch, you will also have to keep in mind that the stream of video probably WILL NOT be active until the game starts, due to bandwith reasons. Once the game time arrives, wait a couple minutes. (or you can try right away, but i find 2 mins or so usually allows them to have it up and running etc. etc.) click on the link. Once you click on the link, sopcast or tvu will open. Once that opens, if the video DOES NOT DISPLAY, follow step three and onward; if the video/stream displays and you can watch. AWESOME! so, no video huh? here's step three, i wont leave you hanging fellow Ducks buddy!!! *drumrolls* 3) So the video didn't work? The reason you updated WMP was to possibly bypass this issue. The reason you downloaded the most recent copy of VLC player was so that you had a backup plan! Open up VLC player, follow these steps.... a)click "file" (upper left hand menu option..) b)once file menu drops down, click "open network stream" c)click on the little bubble that is next to the line of text: "HTTP/HTTPS/FTP/MMS URL (big empty white box)" d) once you click that bubble..you will see the big empty white box. e) have a twinkie or a beer, you're doing well timmy. f)enter into the box, the following (without the quotations) "127.0.0.1:8902" g)Click Ok (do a thumbs up with both hands pointing at your monitor doing a Fonzie "HEYYYYY" after you click ok) h)your game should take anywhere from 1 sec to a min or two to buffer(all depending on your connection, and the buffers and all the fun networking mumbo-jumbo you don't care about because you want to watch The Ducks kick some ass...) and finally. the most important step... Have a Guinness, and a shot of Jameson or the Knot, or sip on a glass of middleton (or whatever the hell you drink...), and watch those Ducks win the stanley cup. If you have questions, I will most likely be online during game day (game five was an off day because the roommate forgot to pay the cable bill...I was not happy.) So either find apost where others are having issues, or create one, or message me (messaging me may not be the best of ideas, I tend to forget to check messages...) I'm babbling. like a brook. Stickers? Twinkies? Enjoy! *edit, contained the replacement of "I decided to create a walk through of how to catch the games on your tv" changing tv to pc/computer. UPDATE (From Ducks Streamer): The Dish/Center Ice schedule has not been updated yet, so not sure if the Ducks games will show up on CI for me or if they will only be available on Versus. If they do show up on CI, I'll have them available for you all on Sopcast NHL4 using the H.264 codec so view with VLC player. Good job on the procedures tieau. By the way, there's a post in the Sopcast forum of the myp2p.eu site showing how to make VLC the default external player for Sopcast, and it works great. Edited by IEDuckfans (04/24/07 12:20 PM) " Hope this helps anyone looking to get games they can't normally see. This all legit as far as I know, and works fine for me.

Convince me why I shouldn't be dreading this series....

edit... the big SHOW, not the big shoe.

Convince me why I shouldn't be dreading this series....

I want one of these... As for dreading this series, I would say stay out of the penalty box. Even though the Sharks were a pathetic 2-20 or something on power plays against Nashville, the constant parade to the box disrupted their game and they never really got into the groove. I hate to bring up that 8 goal game against Hasek, but I think there were 5-6 PP goals that game. I should also point out the "curse of the Joe" for SJ, as that win in the Joe was the first win we had there in like... years I think. This is all very exciting, and I will now use alcohol to remedy this condition. OTT/NJ in 30 minutes.... then the big shoe. Enjoy everyone!!!!!

    Message from a Sharks fan

this is what I'm referring to when I say the sjsharks.com boards are a disgrace, and here is someone from those boards. If you look over there, this is typical of what goes on. It's like someone farted in this thread and the whole thing stinks now. Thanks for hijacking.... please come again! anyways.... I'm opening my first beer. It is cold and it is good. But I've got that feeling...that playoff hockey feeling. I was trying to describe it to a few of my friends, and the best way I could describe it is like when you're little and you're going to Disneyland. Or the night before you get your presents on Christmas Eve. This feeling escalates farther into the playoffs. Of course I've never been past the finals, but hey. Nothing in the room is red.... it has been removed. The Shark paraphanalia is being set up, the decorations in place. This will be my final post for a while, as it is in fact a Wings forum, and depending on the outcome of the game and how my "mojo" feels I may discuss what transpired. I hope everyone is feeling the same way... I hope everyone has "the fever". CHeers...here's to Playoff Hockey. Good luck everyone!!!!!!

Why oh why is the game BLACKED OUT?

cool.... I didn't realize there were so many SOP threads. Seriously, this will SUCK if Anaheim gets too far. ...oh, and Canadian TV is the greatest. I love getting the CBC, TSN, and HNIC feeds on Center Ice. The Molson commercials alone are worth the price.

You're right... March 26, 1997. That has been killing me all season. We have Erhoff #10, Rivet #52, and Guerin *urk* (sorry I vomit a little when I say that) who all COULD be deadly from the point. Are, I should say... but for some reason our game has gone away from just getting shots onto net, and instead these intricate passing plays that end up in turnovers. Same here, same here. Sometimes the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Agreed. If we had even remotely matched our PPG average for the regular season, we would have swept. With the exception of maybe two goals, none of them were pretty goals. They were hard fought shots off of rebounds and turnovers. Ugly goals, but good goals. But goals none the less. HOly crap...4-1 Sabers. They just called that last goal. yes, Baker was totally exaggerating when he said it's the best move in the NHL. That was Shark Byte, a program that has literally "jumped the shark" since we lost former announcer (and my former D coach) Drew Remenda. He's now announcing games on HNIC and living near family in Saskatoon. eh..... not that I don't love seeing Phaneuf leveled, but I retort now with more of McLaren's Butt. In 3-D. Butt #1 Butt #2 Fear not, I only use the word hoser as a term of endearment, not an insult. Be honored to walk amongst such great hoserdom.

    Versus Commercial Campaign

I too work in that area too as a graphic designer, and I never use spec ads. Experience is a much better thing I've found, but this may be impossible when shooting film.I only offer this as a suggestion, as I generally turn away demo reels from prospective designers etc. that use them. I'm not sure how tough the directing gig is, I can only imagine. I know a lot of prospective directors that do a lot of other things as well. Good luck though, these are great commercials. They definitely have the humor and passion that embodies the NHL. I can relate... I've fully shifted to freelance so that I'm not stuck on the 405 during playoffs. The girlfriend is another problem. Do you know anyone at vs.? They keep running promos for teams that are out of the playoffs, and they have one with Darren McCarty which is a decent one, but they don't seem to realize that he's no longer a Wing. Anyone else seeing these? If they knew what was good for them, they would run your ads as a replacement for theirs. It seems like the Flash animation style of ads has sort of stagnated for Vs., and the color treatments they are using are really blown out.... the best commercials always involve a good script and good camera I think.

The Bernier move is a bit overrated, but he's still a major hitter and scorer. Worthy of mention if only to keep an eye on him. This series should be a hard fought and classy series... lots of good hockey. Why am I on the internet when there's playoff hockey on right now? I think the big point I forgot to make was to stay out of the penalty box. I think at around Game 4 we were 1-18 on the power play. Even though this number is horrible, Nashville was on a constant parade to the box. Their game was so disrupted that they never really found their groove. Wings shouldn't fall for this, but if we want to advance much farther we NEED to score on power plays. Speaking of PP, keep an eye on Mike Grier and Curtis Brown. Great killers and great guys as well. So.... any Wings/fans see what famous Red Wing playoff moment is being reenacted in my avatar? That would be the myself and the missus, me playing the turtle and her playing _____?

Sharks fans want to play Wings

Please don't read the sjsharks.com forum... you will find the biggest idiots on the internet in there. Never have I seen a more retched hive of scum and villianry. This is someone from the Sharks boards... you can find his name there. This is perfectly typical of someone from those boards...and it gets worse. Argumentative, cocky, and disrespectful of others. I can't speak for anyone else, but doesn't anyone fear angering the hockey gods, or jinxing themselves?
