So this topic HAS NOTHING TO DO with whether or not Hasek will be back next year OR if he deserves to be back. PAY ATTENTION, I'm almost positive he will be back next year AND I'm not discouraging the idea at all.. I think Dom played fantastic this season and in playoffs (besides games 5&6 where I thought he let in a number of soft goals) BUT Jimmy Howard was a highly saught after netminder after what he showed he was capable of in college.. thankfully for us he was drafted by the Wings BUT since then IMO he has been treated like a second rate goaltender who isn't even good enough to warm the bench? (by this forum and also the organization). So I guess my question is, Why are so many people on this forum ragging on Howard the way they are? To address just a couple arguements against Howard I've been reading.. 1) He's too inexperienced to play in the NHL - He has shown in the minors that he is a very impressive and consistant netminder - How is going to get experience in the NHL if we don't play him, even in a backup role? 2) I'd rather have Ozzie in backup than Howard - Why? Ozzie played how many games this year? 20 or so? I'd rather have a very promising up and coming netminder as backup than an aging one to play 20 or so games a year OH, and if you're so worried that Howard will likely be replacing an injured Hasek, than why bring back Dom at all? To wrap this up, nearly everyone feels Howard is our franchise goalie of the future... So why are we leaving him to rot in the minors? I say play him. He has to get his experience some day, and I think that should be a lot sooner than later (like next season). Otherwise, I don't see what would inspire him to stick around here

Sorry it took me so long to respond to all these comments, but in a nutshell everyone is saying.."Give him another year in GR and then he'll be ready" I never knew playing one more year in the minors would do so much! I guess I was wrong...

I realize that location is huge factor in ice quality/maintanance (especially humity), but other teams in bad locations seem to do much better EDIT: Does anyone know first hand how cold they keep JLA compared places like Anaheim, san jose, dallas, tampa, etc?? Because JLA is always real cold, not uncomfortably cold.. well, atleast for we hockey fans

Are you serious?? First of all, were do you get off saying, "Kopecky SUCKS"? To me that seems like such an ignorant statement.. anyone wearing the winged wheel clearly has a lot of talent...wayy offbase man. Secondly, why are there so m any of you scared to play the youngsters in the playoffs.. I for one love when young guys get a shot on the big stage because who else wants the shot more than them?.. And for those saying, "he's going to be rusty"...WHAT??? what do you think hockey players do in the offseason, sit on the couch and watch infomertials? ....ridiculous. Also, how can you argue bringing in a replacement for Calder? I mean I love him to death, but why have a guy sitting on the bench for 95% of the game? I can't argue too much with those who would prefer to have Hudler in there, but I mean Kopecky offers so much more of a physical presence which is EXACTLY what we need against the Duckies..we're getting pushed around 5v5 I welcome anyone who disagrees with my opinion, I just ask that you support your claims with more than what i've been reading

First, I'd like to say thank you to cujo#31 for posting this.. really nice read. Secondly, I love bertuzzi and will defend him till the end. I know there are a lot of people on this forum that have been critizing his lack of producting since joining the Wings, but for me and all the other rational people on this forum, we realize what this guy has had to go through this season both physically and personally in his life; this article gives us a little incite on that. I really really hope that he'll be back next season and I can almost gaurantee he will because Babcock sees the fire in his eyes and has been saying it since the beginning. If kenny holland gives Bert another year here and allows this guy to settle in detroit, get fully fit, put the past behind him, and focus on his future with the Wings I GARAUNTEE he will show you how much he brings to the table. Maybe we'll never see the Bertuzzi of old that scored 36 goals in 2001 or 46 in 2002 or 25 in 2005, but I believe we will see a player that has the ability to physically dominate opponents, open holes in the D, create scoring opportunities for teammates, while playing a vital leadership role on the ice and in the locker room. We love you Bert, keep on truckin.

Datsyuk is a great player don't get me wrong.. and he is a leader that leads by example But... Have you heard him talk? Not exactly the best at getting out what he is trying to say which is why you'll almost never see him argue with refs without zetty by his side.. If in a few years he can speak fluently like zetty or holmstrom, etc than I would consider it, but at this point he would be undeserving of the A

I was just inspiring to start this thread after reading the newest posts for the past couple hours.. And it seem to me that a lot of Wings fans are WAY TO confident about how this series will end well for the boys in red (In particular comments made on the thread, "Go Ducks"). Last series the boards were filled with sheer respect for what San Jose brought to the table throughout the series, yet I find it strange that after defeating the sharks in 6 (which could have easily been lost), that the vast majority of you seem so sure that this series will be a cake walk. I can't help but defend the new Duckie fans that are being laughed at when they suggest that just maybe the Ducks could beat the Wings, by reminding everyone that the ducks finished 2nd behind the wings for a reason...actually a lot of reasons; including their size, skill, experience, goaltending, and most importantly IMO, their defense. So please, try to remember this next time a Duck fan voices their opinion of why they feel the Duckies will defeat detroit even if that Duckie fan somehow thinks it will happen by game 4 GO WINGS!!!!!!!!!!
