Hey, we're probably the only team that had a big rally for our guys when they came in 2nd place!! Thousands of people showed up to hear Paul Kariya say "Same time next year, different results" and then leave us a month later. If that rally had never taken place, maybe so many Ducks fans wouldn't hate him now and call him a liar for what he said then. So don't say we don't care about our team. And no, the entire city of Anaheim won't stop any more than it did when the Angels won the World Series. Someone has to work to pay for the price of the tickets I paid for the playoffs. Doesn't mean we're bad fans any more than you not selling out your arena during the playoffs...just simple economics.

Obstruction, Hooking, Slashing. Holding, Clutching, and Grabbing

[quote name='rick zombo' date='May 31, 2007 - 10:41AM' post='1090998' But I wouldn't mind putting a little asterisk beside the 95 Devils, the 2003 Devils, and the 2007 Ducks (if they win it). Maybe you can put said sticker on your face to replace the "blinders" See that's what I keep getting when I read this board...the only teams that should win the Cup should be the Red Wings or whoever Red Wing Nation deems worthy of winning the Cup each year. Not who wins the Cup; but who Red Wing Nation feels should win the Cup. Tampa Bay wasn't worthy, Carolina wasn't worthy, and the aforementioned teams aren't worthy either and the Ducks won't be if we win. If the Red Wings don't win in a particular year or the team that does win doesn't win isn't acceptable to Red Wing Nation, then it was just a worthless year in the NHL. No offense, but maybe the NHL just doesn't care about what the "old guard" thinks anymore. Maybe Scotty Bowman is yesterday's news and only important to the Red Wings and not the entire hockey world anymore. He's had his day in the sun and maybe now it's Brian Burke and Kevin Lowe and the younger guys in the hockey world that the NHL care more about pleasing. It happens in the cold corporate world all the time and it can happen in hockey too. I guess I'm just not that wrapped up in myself to really think that the NHL or the players really care about me, the fan. Yeah, they say they do, but if they did, there wouldn't have been a lockout. It's a business and we're just along for the ride and to feed their pockets. I love hockey and believe me I pay dearly in So Cal to perpetuate the youth hockey movement, but never will I believe that in the great scheme of things I really matter to the NHL. -

I think that there are blatant things and then there are fine lines. I think there are things that are tolerated by one ref that aren't tolerated by another. And I think that they get together before the game and during the game to discuss it because I've seen it happen in lower level games and I'm sure it goes on in the NHL too. In any sport, an athlete or team looks for an advantage that may cross into the fine line territory. What Getzlaf did to Comrie was blatant. The crosschecks that you are referring to IMO are probably being seen as "shoves" at this point in the season by some refs. If the Ducks are adjusting to what's being called and what isn't, then the opposing team has the same opportunity to do the same. Look how the Senators came out last night hitting the Ducks. Wasn't really their game, but they tried. It's the same with an umpire in baseball; sometimes the strike zone is really big and sometimes it isn't. Each umpire has their zone that's acceptable and it may even change for a particular pitcher. So the hitter has to adjust as well even if it means hitting a ball that he normally wouldn't just so he doesn't get a called strike. Kudos to all of you for being such hockey purists. Sorry if I'm too much of a homer to just be enjoying my team's winning. All I can say is that if the Ducks win the Cup, the next time the Wings win it after them, put a big sticker over their inscribed names so you all don't have to look at it and remember that they didn't deserve it. -

Well the real reason the Ducks are getting away with everthing is very clear...go to gettyimages.com, editorials and look for all the Gary Bettman pictures with the celebrities in his commissioners suite at the Honda center...Snoop Dog, James Caan, Ray Liotta... It's a real conspiracy; Bettman hates Canada, the Wings, prefers Burke over Bowman, owns Broadcom stock (or will be getting some shortly from Samueli after the Ducks win the Stanley Cup), and has given the refs a personal earpiece telling them when to call penalties. Oh, and by the way, thank you Wings for preparing us and making us tougher so that we can win the Cup. Is there anything else I've left out?? -
I'm with you; we're playing, they're not...end of story.

Game 1 SCF: Ottawa Senators at Anaheim Ducks

http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homep...cle_1711295.php First the Wings fans paper Giguere's house and now this? Relax, I know you and your fans didn't have anything to do with it...very sad for the Duck though. -
RE:the family traditionalists don't like fighting or violence and they see hockey as a violent game. Any time I say my son plays hockey, the comment I hear is "that's such a violent sport". To the baseball fans I always say, What about the ordered throws at a guy's head because the other pitcher did that to your team? That's not violent??

First of all, I think the comment make by Luongo that it was bad timing i.e. something was bad with his son on that particular night, was wrong. Giguere has said time after time that after the initial diagnosis (his son was born with a medical condition whereby his right eye is small and therefore, he may never be able to see out of it. when it was originally discovered in the hospital, there was concern that there was a problem with the left eye as well leaving Giguere and his wife to wait for about 4 days to wonder whether their baby was going to be totally blind. after it was determined that the left eye just had some trauma due to the birth and they were assured that the baby would be able to see from at least his left eye, Giguere and his wife were very relieved. he has said that he believes his son will live a full complete life and be able to do whatever he wants and he cannot ask for more than that.) that his son is absolutely fine and doing everything that any other baby would do. Giguere is constantly doing interviews and the latest is that they will try to do a surgery to get his right eye to develop more and then hopefully they can work with the vision part afterwards. His baby has been in the locker room with him several times so we're all just waiting to see him put Maxime in the Cup now!! It is a bit interesting though that the Detroit newspapers made no mention of this, it was on TSN, ESPN, NHL, etc...he did sit out 3 games of the first playoff series because Carlyle felt that because of the time off and emotional toll that Bryzgalov was the better choice. He came in mid-way through the only game we lost against the Wild and has played in every game since. -

Here's the final one... Jiggy was on the radio yesterday and said he came home from game 3 to find his house TP'd...Red Wings logos on his garage, etc. He joked it was then he decided to step up his game against the Red Wings..hahaha. so thanks to the So Cal Red Wings faithful for the extra push And the final joke on paper and padding goes to the Red Wings... According to the radio guys, an employee at the Honda center who was serving the Red Wings after the last game said everyone made sure each of the players got plenty of napkins...far more than what they normally would have handed out...to use as crying towels too. -
PS 2007 Photoshop War: Red Wings vs. Ducks

I would like to tell you how much my teenage boys have enjoyed this thread...and it truly is a thread that only teenage boys and those with teenage boy minds could love and produce (and that's not a knock). Even though their team's players' masculinity, orthodontia, sexual preferences, etc was questioned and maligned, it was done with such great humor and originality that even the most loyal fan had to LOL at times. Some favorites were the Perry Baby, Spongebob, Oversized Giguere, and the *** Movie , I think it was called. The Soprano comment about the "other Chris" was very original too. Doubtful the Sens fans will be this original so and we'll see you next year.- 477 replies

Yeah and his reply is going to be that he had to get out of there fast so that he could TP Jiggy's house while he was still celebrating in the locker room

Teemu will retire before he EVER plays for another hockey team other than the Ducks. No way he's picking up his family to move somewhere else. Big disaster in Colorado from what people have said.

Personally I think your "not to pretend respect" comment hits the nail on the head. You're in Italy and I presume Italian...I'm married to an Italian and know all about the respect thing. Chelios is one proud Greek, who are cousins of the Italians. Case closed.
-
He didn't shake the Duck's players hands in 2003 either and ever since then I've watched him not shake hands in others playoff losses as well. When Fedorov was here with the Ducks, someone asked him why Chelios didn't shake our hands in defeat and he just sidestepped the issue with a smirk on his face...he knows the answer but just won't say why.

"He" lives behind gates; Giguere doesn't -
During 2003 playoffs, I got in the habit of reading each of these newspapers. I think Mitch Albom was writing most of the hockey news for the Free Press back then and now he's doing basketball it seems. Maybe my bad memory though. In reading each of the online editions though, it seems that the News gives a more balanced approach to the series while the Press is always out to start some type of a riot. In Sunday's edition, there is a very good editorial in the News about the Ducks being the new "dumb" team in sports backed up with lots of hockey history to support why. Wouldn't go so far as to say "sports", but would agree "hockey" by how they're playing now, and yes, I'm a Ducks fan. The News prints an article about Pronger opening his mouth on Friday and then shutting it on Saturday, so the local fan knows about what he said about officiating, his side of story regarding suspension, etc. As for the Press, except for the entertaining story about the Swedes, the other articles are written to seemingly encite the Wings fans even more regarding Pronger. Like you need more reasons to dislike him and get pumped up to boo him at the game? Just curious what you locals think about the sports sections in each of these papers. If I lived there, I would get the Detroit News any day.

YES... I remember when he bought his house. Somebody posted the listing and everyone was able to take a video walkthrough of it. Nice house and not behind gates like a lot of other houses in Newport Beach. Actually the kids on the street were probably just welcoming his baby to the neighborhood. -
Try being a Ducks fan and listening to Hull's view on the Wings! Sorry about Bertuzzi. He's old school and will probably play unless he can't get out of bed.
-
Then I sure am glad that Pronger called them out! I was a bit worried when he complained about the officiating but it worked I guess.
-
Yeah my son's hockey team lost last year because of a "stick boing" goal like Lidstrom just pulled. Nice job, "perfect human" per the Swedes own comments. You guys are lucky that Franzen's stick didnt hit Selanne or Frankenstein may have had his own suspension.
-
I stand corrected
-
Wow, pretty sad commentary for Detroit hockey. We're dying for more hockey coverage in our local newspapers; you get it and it's not worthwhile to you anyway. Thanks for the input and at least I know that what they write really isn't valued by the masses probably anyway.
-
The kids at the hockey rink I'm around consistently use "no goalers" for zero score games these days. The " younger generation" has their own language that unless you're around them, you just can't keep up with. And I've always thought a shutout was baseball talk myself even though I know it's a generic term for a no scores by the opposing team.
-
I know that, but your comment putting Kariya and Gaylord together was too irrestible for a Ducks fan and the other guys post was too long to reply to.
-
That's really nice, but sorry, after Luongo's performance in the playoffs, your "in search for the Cup", Kariya, will probably be signing with the Canucks.
