Michael Farber weighs in on the Avery 'screen': Farber link I don't think farber gets it. This is not about thinking outside the box.
-
I foresee a photoshop of Avery and Brodeur in the near future...
-
I'll be the first to admit that there are numerous thing that could be done to improve the game. Avery's behavior hardly helps the NHL's cause, unless you think that WWE is the way to go. A penalty to Avery next time he tries it nips it in the bud staight away.

...like Simon and Pronger. Man, why didn't we think of this first!

You obviously don't care much about the sport, do you? You sound like the kind of guy that bails water into a sinking boat.
-
Well, I guess that you'll be happy when the NBA playoffs start in a week. You won't have to be bothered with watching a joke of a sport.
-
It's hard to put up much of a fuss about anything when you are down 5 men to 3. Jealousy has nothing to do with it. The integrity of the game has everything to do with it.
-
I don't. They were on the wrong end of a 5-3 in a SC playoff game. Do you leave formation (and possibly give up a goal) to get at Avery? Do you take another penalty?

So if Pronger makes a motion to stomp on a guys head but intentionally misses, it is perfectly alright...and if Marty McSorely takes a two handed chop at someones skull but pulls up at the last second and misses by an inch, no problem?!! I was looking through the rulebook... there is no mention of chainsaws. I think Avery should come with a chainsaw next game and start swinging it around. As long as there is no contact, it should be perfectly fine. end sarcasm.

Am I the only one who think that Avery was being a total jackass?!! Yeah, sure he is distracting the goalie, which plenty of other guys do, including Homer (a fav of mine), but Avery crossed a line which in my opinion makes his behavior unsportsmanlike. Sure, it might not say anything specific in the rules about doing exactly what Avery did, but I am guessing that the unsportsmanlike conduct rules are open to enough interpretation to make it a viable call. If this is allowed to continue unfettered, and others start copying Avery, the position of goalie will be reduced to that of a basketball defender in the low-post...unless someone is willing to take a penalty to stop it...which would be incentive enough to keep doing it.

Are there any good sports bars in the Detroit area that carry NHL center ice or otherwise have access to non-Detroit hockey games?? I would really like to watch the Caps try to clinch tonight, especially since my friend (lifelong Caps fan) is in town. Any advice is appreciated.

Buffalo Wild Wings has NHL network and locals only. Does anyone know where to find the schedule for NHL network? According to NHL.com the game will be on HDNet. How likely is it that HDNet will be available somewhere in the Detroit area??

Just because a guy looks for the pass first, doesn't mean that he can't put up good numbers in the goal scoring department... just ask Gretzky.
-
I second everything you said here. Yeah, he's goofy and not particularly fluid, but I like him all the same. I kind of like him just for the fact that he has this certain quality about him...like the goofball kid that always got made fun of by his friends but never got mad and always laughed it off. ...and how about that hair?! He should've played w/o a helmet. No puck could penetrate THAT!!
-
I just have to say that I got a laugh out of the fact that there is an opposing player lying face down on the ice in this pic, while Mule and Raf laugh if up!!

5 more goals to 30 for Franzen!

Motivation hasn't been a problem tonight...

Prediction: goaltending will be the wings achilles' heel come playoff time...
-
That would be classic!

or in Detroit... especially if you're Phaneuf.

Especially considering Primeau's patented offensive move: try to beat the opposing defenceman to the outside, loose the edge on your skate, crumple to the ice in a heap as the puck harmlessly slides to the corner. Although Primeau went on to do better things (at least in terms of his personal stats) in Philly, I was glad to see him go. As for Coffey, I was pretty unhappy to see him leave in the trade. He and Lids were magic on the PP. It took a while for Shanny to earn enough keep for me to forget about Coffey.

Now we just need to find some dude named Ron Mario and we're all set.

I say we combine them into Lebdilja, a very large, fast skating D-man with offensive upside. With our luck though, we'd end up with Lilda, who would be smallish, slow, and make give-aways in the defensive zone.
