Did anyone REALLY expect ANYTHING different? I think we all saw this coming a mile away, knowing how the NHL is.

I agree...but then the question needs to be asked, how do you stop the Pens from running Ozzie? Whats the solution?

I think experience has taught the Wings that they HAVE to do this The Wings are a team that has one goal, WIN, and they keep their eye on the prize. They don't let the little things bother them...the little hip checks, sucker punches, cross checks....they just keep going and going until they put the puck in the net. However, they dont get nearly as many calls as other teams do, unless it's something ridiculously obvious. So if Osgood has to embellish a little to make a point that he just got interferred with, then thats what he has to do. It's unfortunate that the Wings have to help the refs do their jobs, but thats what NHL is like these days. Wings will need to be very watchful though. It looks like Pitt's made a mission to cause Oz good some harm. The Malone call for GI was just bad luck on the Pens part...but that Sykora one was completely intentional. I hate to say take a shot at Fleury...I like him, but his team has ALREADY earned him some retaliation...one more incident and I think you have to.

I didn't get to see game one, but watching game two...it seemed to me that an inordinate number of Pitt's hits were right at the players' benches, with the intent to knock the guy in. I know it happens, but it was seeming like it was happening a LOT more than usual. I watch a lot of hockey, and it just stood out to me. Anyone think thats a part of the Pitt game plan? "If there's a guy by the benches, knock him in and take him out of the play."

Well from this point forwards the penalties are going to go all Dallas's way, unless they do something REALLY blatant/stupid. No reason to help em out.

I have to say, the announcers have been MUCH MUCH better the past three games. It's weird, right after I sent in my complaint, things turned around.

The possibility of Miller coming to the Wings was mentioned in this month's "goalie" issue of Beckett Hockey. I was kind of surprised because I had assumed that it was just more of a wishful thinking forum post type of thing, but seeing it in print made me give it a little more weight.

The rule we have for interference is fine. What we need are refs that actually have read it. As far as reviewing...ANY time a puck is in the net, regardless of how it got there, it should be reviewable. Take the authority away from these idiots who feel it's their job to interpret the rules as they see fit.

It was so blatant that even Vs. was getting in on it, showing all the Dallas penalties that were not called.

I looked it up. Here it is: Rule 69 – Interference on the Goalkeeper 69.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper - This rule is based on the premise that an attacking player’s position, whether inside or outside the crease, should not, by itself, determine whether a goal should be allowed or disallowed. In other words, goals scored while attacking players are standing in the crease may, in appropriate circumstances be allowed. Goals should be disallowed only if: (1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or (2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. The rule will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgement of the Referee(s), and not by means of video replay or review. For purposes of this rule, “contact,” whether incidental or otherwise, shall mean any contact that is made between or among a goalkeeper and attacking player(s), whether by means of a stick or any part of the body. The overriding rationale of this rule is that a goalkeeper should have the ability to move freely within his goal crease without being hindered by the actions of an attacking player. If an attacking player enters the goal crease and, by his actions, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the goalkeeper, such contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.

Versus hit a new low with their broadcast last night. They are not even pretending to be neutral anymore. Their comments about the whole Osgood/Ribeiro thing, while at the same time putting Turco on a pedestal, was the last straw for me. I'm stuck w/ Vs. because I can't get CBC on DirecTV, but I've let them know what I felt about their broadcast, as politely as possible. We are a large fan base. Quite possibly the largest hockey fanbase in the country. It would be nice if they weren't so insulting. I've let them know that. Here's the link. Maybe they're just not capable of talking about the Wings when the Wings are actually playing.

I didn't see the Stars/Sharks game, so I can't comment on it really. I just know that when I watch Vs, and the Wings are on, it's usually like this: "Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Oh, Wings just scored....Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, oh, Wings scored again....Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, Other team, and now, here's Pierre Maguire barely hiding his contempt for the Wings player he's being forced to interview..."

I always vote Drapes. Whenever I think of him...I always think of that huge playoff beard...I even sculpted it onto my custom.

They spent the entire game defending Turco's punches to the back of Homer's head, his constant slashes, and his blatant trip on Flip. And then acted like Osgood was the root of all evil, and Ribeiro was just acting like it was perfectly fine to swing the stick..."Thats just playoff hockey". If thats not a bias, I don't know what is. I should amend my comment to say that this is mainly in regards to their "A" broadcast team, and their intermission report guys. The "B" team, that they had announcing the last game against Colorado I think, I thought they were much better.

Is being in the crease legal or not? My understanding was that it used to be illegal (See: Hull), but then rules were changed where not it is NOT illegal, as long as the tender isn't interfered with. Yet this is the second coach that has complained about Homer being in the crease. Can anyone enlighten me?

OK. Thanks. Thats what I thought. I just couldn't believe that NHL-level coaches, guys that SHOULD know the game inside and out, would go on and on about this, when they're completely wrong. If anything, it makes me think less of the team as a whole, and if I was a player, I'd be embarassed by that. "Geez, our own flippin' coach doesn't even know the rules."

I have a red New Era one that has the Tiger's road jersey style Old English D in white, that lots of the Wings players were wearing last year. I bought that one right at the Joe. Thats the only place I could find it.

That sequence right there is indicitive of why people hate the Ducks. As SOON as McCreary turns his head, Getzlaf tries to brain Ribero. No call. Moments later, Ducks dive and manage to draw a penalty, then take the lead. So, refs MISS the obvious intent to injure, but somehow believe that if two sticks happen to come in contact, your feet magically are swept out from under you.

Versus announcers, and NBC ones too for that matter, are VERY homer. If you're doing national broadcasts, you should at least TRY to mask what team you're rooting for. God, can someone please take out Corey Perry? What a ***** move on Turco there.

Feels like ALL of them. For the record...I called what just happened about 10 min from the end. Trotz ALWAYS pulls the goalie w/ almost 2 min remaining, and they score on that almost every time.
