Starter was really close though
-
da rock Newark city officials shut down the Prudential Center today because of code violations related to its smoke evacuation system.
-
oh yea... the Rock wasn't finished until the reg season began.
-
Yes, but only for a handful of games in '92 if I remember right. It was a major anniversary year and only worn against O6 teams.

If we lose in the Finals, is '08-'09 season a failure?

1) Coming off a cup win. 2) Large net (net net not goalie net) gain of talent with Hossa and Conklin signing plus the resignings thus far. 3) Longer break before the start of the season. 4) Enough unproven talent to prevent "regulars" from getting burned out. 5) Coming off a cup win I fail to see how anything less than a repeat could not be considered a failure at this point. When catastrophes happen then we can reevaluate if need be. -

Yes. Esp with the additions the Wings have made this year. (Then again, I agree with Dump-N-Thump too) -
he'll be back for the playoffs this year. ... and next
-
at least he played by league rules... even if was a scummy thing to do
-
Mexico... well Mexico City would be to far to travel. Puerto Rico... Their economy wouldn't be able to support the franchise.

1) Washington -the Nashville of their generation of teams. Always surviving with just a nose above water. One truck pony offense (Jagr then, AO now) with "in Kolzig we trust" to keep from being god awful. 2) Rangers Fans act like the team hasn't defined mediocre since 1926. matter of fact, I prefer philly fans. MSG just bothers me (the company not the place) The fact that they've spent more but Detroit was considered the Yankees of hockey. 3) Islanders Started with the Gordon Fisherman logo and continues to go downhill from there.

they weren't unique in their contribution either

I've been giving this some more thought... yes the instigator penalty has prevented some fighting. In particular, the last minute of the game line brawls. With visors becoming more prevelent, the extra penalty for instigating without removing your helmet only further adds to less fighting. As far as enforcers go... I believe thier role as being body guards on skates that pummel anyone that looks at the star wrong has changed or should I say evolved like the rest of the game has. Now, while sticking up for teammates is still a huge part of the job, so is hitting/taking hits so that the stars don't have to. Also the fact that a player knows that someone has their back as adds to their spunk. Case in point would be Maltby this year returning to almost form of prelockout bug. PS I might edit this later to flesh out some more, but it's go home time.

Single biggest problem with the management level of the NHL. Well that and it's run like a family business with cousins that hate each other.
-
So another forum got me thinking starting 5... They're thinking that Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Hossa, Lidstrom, Rafalski will be one of the best in the past 15 years. Russian 5 immediately came to mind as better. Thoughts?
-
Honestly, Osgood is still kinda "meh" It's how he goes about his business and that could hurt him once he's done. But then again I'm a little biased against so... Just say no to Fedorov.
-
So left unsigned per NHLnumbers is... Howard Downey Drake Filppula McCarty Hartigan Chelios (I could have sworn he was signed already but whatever) Ericsson Quincey oh and I got fear shivers looking at next years current FA list.
-
My wife was at Hockeytown Authentics a couple weeks back. Wasn't a Downey jersey to be had. Sadly, I think he'll be gone.

Big believer that the following season (and post-season) says how well you did in the offseason, but things are looking nice.

Do the Recent Signings get Butts in the Seats this Year?

Magic 8-ball says no -
For those complaining about the first. Please remember that the current track record for drafted Detroit goalies is around 6 years after draft to sniff the show. In other words they are looking ahead to ~2014 roster not 2008-2009.
-
lol love how they're saying it will be 6+ years before he'll be in the NHL.
-
geez... so nobody likes their picks huh?
-
Yeah but who's going in the trunk at the border crossing?
-
hmmm... so greedy, lazy russian if he takes the deal. Idiot for turning down the large sum of money and playing in his homeland if he doesn't take it. Talk about a lose lose. The fact that the league is shotgunning contract offers out to signed players scares me a little bit. A couple of non-russian players being treated well over there could lead to some fear for the NHL.
