I think this one is less about the closer calls, but more about the player safety on late hits. I have a feeling side-by-side contact won't be called but if a player is fully behind the one touching up. I bet that'll get called quick. *Optimistic post of the month

Yup and in about 10 years when he hits puberty... watch out!

Just because people aren't falling over themselves complimenting goalies doesn't mean they aren't being given credit. In fact I would argue that the fact that we talk about goalies as often that we do that we have a tremendous amount of respect for thier game. That's the way it always is with any sports league though. The league and it's rules are always playing catch-up to what the players and coaches are doing. If it were any other way it would be on a video game. (even though there are exploits there too) Why bring skater's cheating into a goaltender thread? Trying to deflect the issue to skaters doesn't change the fact that there are issues with the rules on goaltender equipment. I agree that 99.9% of them are cheating as well however. Also deflecting to no-touching icing and the instigator rule are also outside of this thread. Honestly, I believe making positional goalies be more precise with thier angles and reactive goalies be quicker will add a certain level of excitement to a 0-0 game. Will we see dmen clear the crease and block lanes better? You bet. Could we also see the areas where goals are scored from shift or reappear (like the high slot for example)? I believe so. That's exactly why I wanted to know how old the equipment is. If someone still playing in this era, even drop in play, hasn't put on pads from the early 80s since the early 80s then it's hard to truely argue about the growing of pads over the last 20 years. Pictures are normally dismissed because of the different variables involved. Pad's growth has outpaced player's skill and poorly written rules have not helped the situation.

But it makes for some epic failures lol

I don't think anyone here thinks that the current generation of players talent is worse than the previous generations. I haven't seen anyone make mention of it yet, except you, just sayin' Now... goaltenders are a lot like nascar crew chiefs. Both have a simple set of rules to follow and try to exploit every loophole they can. If you ain't cheatin', you ain't trying as the saying goes. You keep making mention that goalies are staying with the rules but if the rules in and of themselves can be improved upon and make the game of hockey better and perhaps in some ways more exciting then what in the nine hells is wrong with that I ask? It will should make positional tenders more precise and make reactionary goalies more fun to watch. I fail to see what is wrong with that. It's not like any change the league will make is gonna make it where a team is in double digits a common occurrence. Sounds like how you beat most goalies so... Question for the current keepers out there: How old is the oldest piece of equipment you currently own? Have you strapped on equipment from the early 80s recently or older in the last few years? Not really sure where I'm going with this other than curiosity.

Realistically, this is already happening with every position on the ice, but there will almost always be a Martin St. Louis playing out there.

Oh, it matters. Those who say it doesn't is lying to you or themselves.

Sawchuk's injury, and cause of death, wasn't because of stopping pucks. But to answer the question at hand, I can't think of a NHL goalie in the last 20ish years to have a career ending injury below the neck.

But then folks would complain about big brother watching them...

Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
vangvace replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Honestly, for Osgood STILL has a meh about him outside of those who carry a torch for him. Personally I think Aurie should be returned to where he belongs before Osgood has his number retired. I think he's bettered his chances for HOF, but it'll take time because of a logjam of others deserving by that point. Plus I have to think about it. Lids... K. No thought needed. Pimadonnaov... Your grandchildren might see it, but while an Iilich owns/runs the team it won't happen. -
I think it's part tax shelter and part along the same lines as house flipping when the market was good.

for those that went to the parade and times square for new years... about the same sardine feeling?
-
Did a search but couldn't find a thread so... Triple Gold Club expands to 22 Zetterberg, Kronwall and Samuelsson did it in only two years. link Of the 22 players honored, 8 are current or former Wings.

Well that was fun. Chapter 11 has been filed. link

have you not been paying attention to the unemployment rates? Easily that many people may have had nothing better to do. (Sorry couldn't resist the poke and hope things start turning around soon) Seriously though Metro has tons flights that hit all of the country and is huge so out of town Wings fans could easily have flown/drove in.

Agree with Dabura and Fedorovfan Vs was the better of the deals TV deals. The NHL was doing some shopping on it's new vehicle for it's product and went to a few dealerships. Being the smart shoppers they were they took the best offer they were quoted. Why pay a premium for poor service?

You've done this dance long enough to know that the "bonehead play threads" that show up right after a loss they comes off as a hate thread... and now you're arguing about it's hate thread status? The Dali lama, the pope, and Mother Teresa could make a comment that it was a bonehead play and it will still be taken as a hate thread.

After the game... nope Babcock's not Bowman in that regard. However, players during the game... even though I didn't like how the game was being reffed. It gets old after a while watching players complain to the refs.

I don't know, Sammy didn't play bad in my book. He made quite a few smart plays and the twirl thing he does worked more than once in a game. I think the only way Chelios plays is if there is a ______
-
Actually, they made mention quite a few times during the broadcast that Babcock kept telling his players to quit whining about the calls and play hockey.

shhhh... it's the alcohol talking. And thinking it's over before the buzzer sounds.

6 Canadian teams account for 31% of league revenue
vangvace replied to TheWestWing's topic in General
Find it funny that young teams like Phoenix and Florida are getting picked on here. Guess they were supposed to magically draw fans after the newness wore off. Honestly, moving solves nothing in the long run and further reduces league credibility IMO Folks should be more pissed about NYI, St Louis, LA, and Washington. I've excluded Chicago only because they had a increase in attendance after Writz passed. They are all teams that have been around for a while and, as much as I don't like teams moving, would be at the top of my list to move. -
So... he wouldn't waive his NTC but he's willing to sign elsewhere in free agency? Something stinks...
