good for philly...

Yup between that head shot and a couple of punches being thrown into the wings bench suspensions might be coming... oh wait Philly wasn't involved, nevermind

DAMMIT how is it I missed that VS was replaying the game today. Son of a... My wife just had to record her shows last night geez... K I feel better

Flipped through "the Magazine" today since it was the fan issue. In the hockey portion (Yzerman and the fan story BTW) it mentions that of fans polled 70% didn't know who Crosby or AO are... marketing of golden boys at it's finest if you ask me.

tsn story Items being discussed: 1 min penalties during regular season OT carry-over suspensions high-sticking penalties and whether it should remain an automatic four-minute penalty for drawing blood instigator retaining salary in trades The growing trend of NCAA players leaving school early to sign with NHL teams the status of the IIHF-NHL player transfer agreement examining the NHL Players' Association's idea of an 84-game schedule moving the start of free agency to July 6 or July 7 instead of July 1 when it's a national holiday in Canada the idea that players who are traded near the trade deadline cannot re-join his old team for a minimum of one year whether hand passes should be disallowed in the defensive zone whether breaking a stick on a player should be an automatic slashing penalty ice conditions around the league The size of goalie equipment and bigger nets five shooters instead of three during shootouts whether a player that was still in the penalty box at the end of overtime should be ineligible for the shootout Lots on the table to be discussed. Some interesting ideas and nothing really jumps out and makes me groan except for banning hand passes. Automatic slashing penalties for breaking sticks could be touchy because of how composites break.

Don't know if TSN has updated their stats yet but he's at 93 PIM! I'm going to sleep well tonight.

The reason they're looking at change the OT penalty time is because some don't like that a single penalty takes up 40% of OT and many times decides a game. Could very well lead to more shoot-outs. From what I've seen elsewhere. The 84 game schedule being discussed includes a home and home with every team. Not rejoining your former team would prevent say Sundin, from being traded for the playoffs then resigning with Toronto during the offseason. Basically stopping what Tkachuk did last season. Retaining salaries creates "dead" cap space. For example, say the Caps trade AO and in the terms of the deal they agree to pay $5mil of his contract for three years. During those three years Washington's cap max was just lowered $5million. If a GMs not paying close enough attention it could royal put his team into cap hell. Something I would like to see added if they make a broken stick a penalty is that the stick must have a certain minimum break strength if that makes sense. That way players don't go out there with sticks like toothpicks... you know instead of diving Depends on the player in the box really. I'm kinda for it because it holds to having the team penalized.

Still don't like him... Don't like Hasek either Scarily he might be a good mentor for Howard on how to deal with Wings fans.

could be... both my acl tear and my patella dislocation cause me to be woozy. The trainer should be able to determine if it was even a partial acl tear in the locker room doing various leg bends and pulls. I wonder if they did/plan on a MRI in the next couple days. (I haven't heard) Edit: no elbow, but maybe a forearm after the initial hit

Well it's good to know that this is done until July when we can start the drama all over again.
-
That's the funny-strange part... it's the PA, well a handful of goalies, that are pushing for it. It wouldn't surprise me if it's the small market teams that put up the most resistance to this because it would also raise player salaries.

too little recent history experience to say if it'll work in the playoffs. I think it could work well with the right pair, like the wings have now. Minn a few years back is a good example. If I remember correctly they started tandemed alternating games but finished with a more traditional starter/backup nothings working approach.

More revenue = more pay. And actually I think team pride for the most part has gone out the window once it's a job. inevitable though and I see blackmarket jerseys in my future when it happens... Korea here I come!

Voted yes, but would depend on who and how much. Go Ipswich! One day they'll be back!

2 reasons why Fedorov and McCarty will become Wings

I'm more than a little concerned that the team appears to be going all for a cup run at the deadline by bringing in Fedorov coming off of a concussion, Blake with a bad foot, and McCarty's 3 month comeback and bad back. -
Agreed. It seems like the league has transformed into less fun and more work. Kinda like that one guy that takes a great place to work and destroys it. Off ice some players have great personalities but on ice it can be like watching somebody else play an NHL2K8 with the robotic personalities. Most of the characters in the league now are the new breed of enforcers (like McGrattan) IMO. Man I miss Domi.

News: Fedorov (concussion) will return to the lineup against the Blues on Sunday. Impact: He has missed 13 games due to post-concussion syndrome. Coach Ken Hitchcock said that Fedorov will return on Sunday. If he doesn't, you know who to blame for raising your hopes. (RotoWire - Fri. Feb 15, 2008) News: The Red Wings may be interested in trading for Fedorov (concussion), according to the Detroit News. Impact: Fedorov, 38, has begun skating and should be back next week -- just in time to audition for teams before the Feb. 26 trade deadline. Stay tuned. (RotoWire - Fri. Feb 15, 2008) starting to think this may be the only move they make...

In a league where half of the calls are make-up calls it doesn't surprise me if this is a make-up fine. I think that's the reason for the fine, but it would be nice to get the full story of the Caps complaint and if Philly told them about it in advance. Agreed. Retirement ceremonies happen once a year normally. ASG and SCFs have their intermissions jacked up. Winter classic did too and they're looking at making that annual. Yzerman's retirement wasn't covered on the TV feed in my area so I got to watch it on youtube. Not that that matters much because most retirements aren't televised and it does seem like it would be an easy thing to do for the fans and to generate positive PR.

path of least resistance and least chance to blow up in a congresses face... unlike most of the real problems

being 2 weeks post for the same injury... ouch, but good drugs

Did you miss the Capitals rallies? They're the original problem-child that Nashville seems to be. And if it wasn't for Kolzig and now AO they'd probably be in somebody's sites for a buy and move. Is there a hockey city in NA that doesn't have gambling nearby? The gambling argument was a good one a decade+ ago but now it's becoming more and more irrelevant as a reason to stay out of Vegas... even though I'm skeptical how well Vegas would work. I feel some deja vu...

He's been out since mid Jan... latest on the wire. His playing this weekend might be overly optimistic, but if everyone insists on his return. I hope he gets his legs back quickly.

St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville, and Columbus would be nice for travel purposes. Columbus scares me though because of possible hot goalie issues. Phoenix also scares me because of the hot goalie situation. Plus they're a cupless sunbelt team... They're seeming to be forming up to be the team of destiny this year. Whoever they face though... it'll be a dogfight regardless.

it concerns me, but doesn't surprise me, that Kronwall got put on IR. I was kinda expecting Cleary because he needed surgery to repair his jaw...
