Very very true. So we want an annoying mascot running around that dicks with adult fans and draws attention away from the ice? And we want cheerleaders to dance around and draw attention away from the ice? Either one of these tells me two things: 1) Your product isn't exciting enough on it's own if you have to inject false energy. 2) It's no longer about a hockey game as much as it's about making it an "event". Then again the last time I was at the Joe it was a rock concert that was interupted by a hockey game.

so I'm sitting here watching the ahl allstar skills comp and have a couple thoughts/observations Howard looked good moving side to side. only let in one goal in the rapid fire. Ericsson broke 100mph on the hardest shot. Really enjoying this more than the bastardized NHL version. Really really fear the day when the nhl allows sponsors to put logos on the sweaters. Really really pissed me off that the ahl sold out in that regard. Edit: They ran out of sponsored targets for the accuracy comp.! went back to bulls-eyes.

Wow... everyone is so hot and bothered over an exibition game ment for the casual fan that many won't remember by trade deadline anyway. It might be my take on it but the all-star game isn't just about who's leading in the stat department, but it is a combination of various factors. Well known veteran names that anchor player recognition for casual fans is the foundation of the ASG. Hot up-and-comers that will hopefully become that future fondation are sprinkled into the game based on marketing, performance, league whims, and because you can't just have veterans. Rafalski... he hasn't even been mentioned much here on LGWs and everyone is up in arms that he's not an allstar? We who pick apart every aspect of every player leave him threadless for the most part. I think that Hartigan actually has been mentioned more in threads. His large contract isn't brought up in cap threads. His skills aren't brought up in the "go us" threads. His gaffs are hardly mentioned here. If he is going unnoticed here, then how in the hell can we be outraged at his been looked over by outsiders!?! Hell, I had to look him up because I only vaguely new who he was when he was signed. EDIT:: But then again I normally stop playing attention to the ASG after the skill comp

I watched bits of the game. It was Jokinen's second game in a row with a fight. The Philly broadcasters made a huge deal about him leading by example and getting his team going. I was really disappointed that Hartnell wussed out on fighting Horton... but I shouldn't be surprised either.

I honestly believe that Vernon should get in before Osgood. In addition, Osgood will more likely than not have the stats, but is still missing that something special to take him from "meh" to HOF bound. In general he's more well known for letting in soft goals, scoring a goal, and Detroit winning the cup despite of him being in net. Finally, alot of good players coming up for admission to HOF next handful of years. Enough that there is going to be a log jam for a while. If the Osgood faithful are having fits now with just the talk about him not getting in, imagine the bender they'll go on when he's not selected first (or third) year eligible. BTW I voted yes because I'm having faith that we'll get another cup despite him.

They left 14 million free this season. Does that really breed confidence that they are looking to be a cup contender? If he did take less it wouldn't translate into them using that cap space elsewhere. In addition, this is Washington we're talking about, home of the one trick pony and the original edition of the Predators. If the cap goes up like the league is forcasting then they will still have around 10 mil to play with for next season.

And what kind of message does it send to Z? Dats is locked up for 3-5 more years and was right around market value when he was signed. Lids is nearing the end of his career and just signed a two year extension. "Well Z, you may be the future capt. and you're leading the team in points but we want you to take a deal that is below market value so we don't hurt other players feelings."

wow... that's lowballing. But then again with the cap going up I'm considering 7.5 the extreme hometown discount, but more likely closer to 8. Especially once salary inflation and next years expected cap increase.
