Good for them... sixty more numbers to retire before they run out.

Next week I might try bolding the losers. <--- worst picker ever

I have every confidence that the Wings Organization have the scouts and player personnel that they won't return to the dead things. As for that sense of now or never... next three years. After that the team will have passed the torch to all the kids... well maybe with the exception of Chelios. With that said though, it is going to be tough in this era for any team to match/beat St. Louis' playoff streak.

With the way much of the coaching staff is still under contract I wouldn't be surprised if it was a promotion from within. I'd like to see Miles, but he does have a sweet deal down at LSU. edit: Henne looked bad, still injured bad

Either two things would happen. First, hitting and possiblly poke checking will greatly disappear for fear of suspension. I say poke checking because should a player go for the puck he could hit the other player, injure said player, and become a cloud of suspended smoke. Second, star players get suspended for long periods of time. Either way not very good for the game IMO.

5 years without hefty financial penalties....

Because he plays for Carolina? Similar question could be asked about Jokinen out of Florida as well. Side note: Stillman was undrafted in my fantasy league. I picked him up in free agency first week.

Don't know if this was posted elsewhere but... the 'yotes have just played San Jose three times in a row over the last five days. I though this sort of thing was reserved for baseball or the playoffs.

not really a rule change... but something that I agree with... turn down the volume

not a fan... but it's been awhile since I liked an allstar jersey

I can't argue with this point. but to respond to your edited add... the most recent pad shrink still kept the equipment larger than 80s keepers.

Talented, or should I say faster, players would be able to break free easier leading to more possible breakaways. My arguement though is that the slower teams will hunker down and clog up the high scoring zones just like they due now. Datsyuk will be able to do a fricken triple lutz as long as he's on the outside, but once he gets near the slot or goal he'll still have guys swarming around him just like now. In addition, from goal line to blue line you lose 72.5 square feet of ice along with losing 5 feet from goalline to blueline. The two areas where international ice truely becomes larger is in the neutral zone and behind the goalline. International ice is bigger, but the extra ice is, imo, majority dead ice.

Olympic hockey is great, but it wouldn't transition well to the NHL. First, the overall caliber of talent in on an olympic team is much higher than your average NHL team. Secondly, in the defensive zone, you wouldn't have to chase the puckcarrier. Much like many teams play now, they just have to keep the puck on the perimeter and in other low percentage areas of the zone. In a similar thread a while back either Hank or Harold (and Datsyukismyfriend) made mention of dropping to four skaters. I'm starting to warm up to the idea. Eight pairings instead of the standard line setup could add to some interesting combinations and stratagy. Oh and to stay on thread... Bigger nets = bigger pads I wonder if, now that there are safety nets at both ends, if it's time to due away with curve restrictions on the hockeysticks?

But if chuck norris and chris chelios were to meet it would result in the immediate destruction of the universe... except for chuck norris and chris chelios what is.

Blades of Grass might offend vegans though.

It would cause teams to have an artificial salary cap that is below league max, even if that team were to want to spend to league max. This is know in the NFL as salary cap hell. TB would gain from this but whichever team that they happened to trade with takes a cap hit on a player isn't there for a season, if not multiple seasons. A good example would be with the Wings. How much would $1-3 million in dead cap space hurtover the next couple seasons? Other desperate GMs would more likely go even higher than that in dead cap.
-
Would it be likely that either one of those players would end up on IR though? I'm not disagree mind you because placing Downey on waivers does provide roster play. Should He get sent down barring injuries or be picked up by another team then I will be disappointed. I wonder if Downey being on waivers is because of a player being hurt, a callup, or just going to happen every time is waiver period expires.

So it's ok to have a native american themed mascot as long as it's not facial? Secondly, Hispanic is an ethic group, not a race. Just like the fighting Irish. So why is it ok for the Celtics and Notre Dame again?

Agreed, makes since for a "in-a-pinch" call-up

Most recent pro league team with an offensive name... Houston 1836, now the Houston Dynamo. 2006 MLS. A 2002 poll commissioned by Sports Illustrated found that 75% of those Native Americans surveyed had no objection to the Redskins name. What no mention of the Atlanta Braves with a weapon as their logo? The must be promoting violence while being racist right?

Between the two sports radio stations in Philly I listen to (ESPN and some other guys) they spend about 4 hours a week talking about the flyers combined. Matter of fact, ESPN talked about how rough the Flyers 8 game road trip was that they finish tonight. Florida, TB, Boston, Montreal, Caps, Rags, Pens, and Devils over 15 days in case you were curious. Edit for accuracy

Dark Homes makes it cheaper for teams to sell/wear their third jerseys. Personally, I perfer the Whites but would like to see a 10 year rotation between wearing Darks or Whites at home.
