I prefer to think of it as he's returning to where he was successful.

David has been known to beat Goliath a time or two. In a best of seven series the better team always wins. That's why it's a best of seven and not a "one and your done". Stuff happens, but the better team moves on. If it's because of lucky bounces, flukes, injuries, bad calls, or the easter bunny. It doesn't matter in the end. Oh and the Wings were robbed in '42.

Off topic Speaking from experience that infection sucks. continue topic

Nice photoshop, but I just threw up in my mouth. :puke:

There is no statistical evidence to back that up. (Sorry couldn't resist the poke)

Fixed it for ya for Hudler post. As for Downey. He knows his role and played accordingly. Depending on what plays out during the season. 29 games with about 2:50 of ice time per.

Not all fights get the major. Most do, but some will only draw matching minors if they aren't worthy of the major. All three of the colleges I've gone to won't allow wiki to be used as a source. but it's great for finding reference links.

perhaps a very poor analogy but the point is still there. And it has nothing to do with his being vodka chugging, cuban smoking russian. (is he by the way? I see cool points if so) He played the last three seasons of the RSL missing only 5 games in the last two. Hell, maybe he got some bad information, but it was still a poor showing after so long.

and yet ironically it doesn't take people three and a half years to go from winded walking to marathon shape... The suggestion that he isn't lazy or has a good work ethic is just as bunk as well. Who, in their right mind, wouldn't strive to return to what they were before a major injury? Sorry but he failed. He failed to take coming to the NHL seriously. He failed to do his homework. He failed to prepare in the least. He was either too arrogant about how well he was going to be or too lazy to put in that effort. Too many players have crossed over the pond now for it not to be the case. It's not luck he was smuggled across the border in the trunk of a car. Is there still hope that he will pan out? Yes, but he put himself behind the eightball and now the cueball's heading his way.

Not as good as you guys but here is my Yahoo team for the year: C Langkow (Cgy) Legwand (Nsh) Nylander (Wsh) LW Whitney (Car) Stillman (Car) Kozlov (Atl) RW Horton (Fla) Hossa (Atl) Gaborik (Min) D Gonchar (Pit) Zhitnik (Atl) Pitkanen (Edm) Timonen (Phi) G Kolzig (Wsh) Nabokov (SJ) Roloson (Edm) I'm going to try trading away an Atlanta and Carolina player or two for better team diversity if I can. Oh and the league is head-to-head playing all D and 2 of the other positions.

Hamilton Preds hahahahaha :rotflmao: sorry legion but... this is just too funny. Ticketmaster is still selling tickets.

There is a rumor going around that Columbus might be going East next season with Atlanta coming West. This is along with returning to a schedule similar to pre-lockout. I posted a link in an older thread. As for the Wings moving East. it would be interesting to see how well their style of play would work out over a full season because of how different the two conferences are.

Samuelsson's a sniper?!? I've always thought of him as artillery.

why do players even bother appealing to the officials?

Wait... I thought he did that because he wasn't allowed to fiddle with loose tape on his stick brfore a faceoff. -
Define lately Seriously though it seems to me that stickwork has become more and more common since around '95. (before then it's too fuzzy to remember) Look at how many slashes were causing injuries too. As for the reason... a change in the level or interpretation of respect is the cause IMO more than anything else. 25 games sounds about right to me for his first major f-up in almost a decade. I have a feeling the headhunting suspensions are going to be st NHL offense 20-30 games, 2nd 45-55, 3rd season or life. This is of course with an * because there may end up being exceptions to this. Personally, I feel Heatley should be banned before him. (for now)

Just like everyone to know that as of right now Drake leads the league in fighting majors! Who would have thought it.

Two visa issues in one season... must have a new guy in charge for the Wings.

I have seen three former Wings post on other boards. But it was extremely rare. It wouldn't surprise me if the there were a few guests around here.

I think that this has to be brought up as an ammendment to the CBA. But it would be difficult to stop all of the loopholes. hockey&beer supposedly Niedermayer can't do anything team related until he's off suspension. No travel or "team" skates.
-
Yes, but the one of the main reasons that the cap has risen that dramatically is because of the downturn of the US dollar, esp. compaired to the Loonie. When (if?) the US dollar recovers the salary cap will start to shrink again if my understanding of the CBA is sound. Downside is that I don't see it happening until after the current CBA is set to expire. It's also why teams like Edm. aren't whining anymore that they don't have the money to compete. Instead they are putting money into revenue sharing. Side note - TB deal is getting shaky too, but it's less drama than Nashville so far. Which reminds me... I think I'm going to start making popcorn to eat before reading Nashville threads from now on.
-
I have a feeling that the three year deal is for quite a bit less than the one year based on the article. It wouldn't surprise me if it broke down something like: 1 year $2 mil 2 year $1.7ish mil 3 year $1.5ish mil

I think you're right since they suspended him till ffuther notice. As for Selanne... he's a FA so he can Roger Clemons or Floppa all he wants to.

Excellent post. I would like to add another point to it as well. The marketing of the NHL and Red Wings in general is horrendous. I believe that this also contributes to the problem. Esp because it's not the diehards they have to sell to, but the borderline fans. How is the casual fan supposed to know who's on the team, or in the NHL for that matter, if the players aren't being marketed?

What's wrong with an 88.1? Oh wait we're talking about real life and not a game... nevermind
