    Shoot out goal

Checked and... Actually 2nd from the last para under that rule says that the losing goaltender will not be charged with an extra goal against.

    Shoot out goal

Correct, SO goals and saves are not added to the stats. Something I would like the NHL to add though is SO stats as a seperate catagory as well as expand PP/PK stats (either +/- or a % effeective). I'm pretty sure they exist in some form or another already because they can be useful when talking contracts.

    Official Downey On Waivers

If your not willing to fight for what is yours then that shows a lack of character IMO. And by yours I mean: your career, your family, your coworkers, your teammates. In the realms of the Wings... until they are willing to fight (not necessarily dropping gloves) for each other then I do not believe they have shown what it takes to win a Stanley Cup. Have you ever heard of overcompensation? Think of it kinda like the "Little Man in a Big Truck" or "sportscar overcompensation" Does he go nose to nose with everyone or just the biggest guys? Wow... convenient that you chose since Holland has become "GM" as your starting point. Otherwise you'd have to acknowledge that Lamoriello has him beat and Lacoix ties him since the '95 strike/lockout. Holland rant follows... Holland and Co. have done well but I have a few points. First, they are know around the as treating almost all players very well. Not a knock but a plus since it makes alot of things easier. Second, precap they had almost no spending limit. Third, in the salary cap era it's still too early to grade how well they are doing until 3 more seasons pass. That's when the wheels may come off on teams around the league. (using other leagues for reference BTW) Fourth, Devellano should be given 10 times the credit Holland gets around here for the Wings rise from the "Dead Things", the scouting quality Detroit has, to the three cups, and to the team that is currently being iced. (Wait maybe not the last one ) End rant As for Downey clearing waivers... I would have rather it have been Ellis. I'm curious who will be brought up as the injury bug seems to be coming around since the Downey signing seems more and more like a tease and AHL contract every day. I shouldn't be surprised if he plays a career low number of games this season either.

    MY NHL

What your talking about as far as fighting goes is called the aggressor penalty. I'm not sure about the MMA gloves. I think that they would take away from the "feel" of the puck. The Wrist protection would be interesting, but it would have to be like scale-like (think armadillo) or something and could end up slowing shots. If you're going to mandate mouthguards and visors then you might as well cut out that step and go straight to full facemasks. They'd offer better protection. But I don't think either are necessary to make mandatory because more players coming into the league are going to the visor. Winnipeg would be third on my list for Canadian cities to get a team. Hamilton and Quebec City I would consider first. To worry about player development at the point of 18-21 is waaaay to late in the game imo. But then again the handful of highschool and peewee practices haven't really included fundamentals either I'm not sure how having 5 skaters and a goalie watching the game eating popcorn helps them develop... a ninth playoff team... I'm intrigued, but over half the league goes to the playoffs as it is. Plus it'll add another week or two to the season. As for the goalie pads... if you're a beanpole and you put on pads and you then look like an NFL lineman or sumo wrestler, then the pads are too big. Look at the pads from 10 years ago (the whole thing not just leg pads) there is a dramatic increase. Hell look at Paddy Wah's or Guigure's pads over thier career... It's not so much the leg pads in particular the rest of the pads that need to still be shunk. Either that or make the nets bigger. Your choice. Sorry that you'd have to spend another grand for your hobby in advance.

Actually you'ld just return it to how it was in the 80s(?) roster wise. and that was some fun hockey to watch.

    MY NHL

My version: Smythe Vancouver Edmonton Calgary San Jose Anaheim Los Angeles Phoenix (Vegas/KC in '11) Norris Detroit St.Louis Toronto Minnesota Columbus Chicago Colorado (SW ontario expansion '11) Adams Nashville Tampa Bay Carolina Florida Atlanta Pittsburgh Washington Dallas Patrick Philadelphia NY Rangers NY Islanders New Jersey Boston Montreal Ottawa Buffalo I like the idea of dressed 16 skaters and could very well happen and not get killed by NHLPA if it coincides with the 2011ish expansion so no "jobs" are lost.

    Why Dats Why

Through the game and (prob) scouting report, he might not have felt that he needed to do anything fancy to beat the goalie.

    Sens re-sign Dany Heatley

The Canadian dollar's rise is one of the main reasons why the cap and league profits went up so much this past year. The Canadien clubs all have to pay into the revenue sharing pot since the lockout. Also between 33 and 55% of league's revenue comes from Canada. I can't remember the actual number I read but it really smacked the US clubs. If the Candian dollar equals ~$1.05 to $1.15 US by the end of the season then I have a feeling the cap will rise again like it did last season.

    10/3 GDT: Red Wings 3, Anaheim Ducks 2 (F/SO)

Some things I took away from the game... (and mind you I only saw the stat sheet and the shootout) Wings jerseys look pretty good except for the damn rbk logo scrunching the name on the back. Hudler had a nice shootout goal... but I'm still not big on him. Zetterberg's shootout attempt looked like my breakaways in NHL 2K7. 42 freaking shots and only 2 goals.... I don't know how I feel about this one because the stat sheet doesn't tell the whole story.

    20 games for Downie

Honestly I don't think that suspensions or a beating will teach dirty players a lesson. You made a very valid point about beatdowns ealier in the thread. As for suspensions, players are getting suspended often and heavily without changing across all of the major sports in America. Once they suspension is over, they come back and do something and are suspended again. Truely dirty players should have been blackballed from the league before they even made it to the show.

    20 games for Downie

I'm not disagreeing, but it is the NHL we're talking about. Rational and consistency go out the window at the head office. I have a feeling on appeal this will be dropped to 5-10 games. Campbell tried to claim that 20 games wasn't based on Downie's reputation, but he knows what that rep is. Sounds kinda fishy to me.
