A FA goalie would be much cheaper than a scorer and easier to afford.
-
I have a feeling that either Detroit or Lions is in there somewhere.
-
Briere or Drury's salaries could have not happened if Buffalo would negotiate during the season instead of waiting till it's over. As for the league being a joke and screwing themselves again... meh, growing pains of the salary cap era. Those who learn the hard way will pay for it soon enough.
-
Penner was making the league minimum. But to answer your question, entry-level contracts are capped at $850K. Oh and not bad for a guy that wasn't drafted.
-
$3.5 mil will prob be his asking price. And unless we see another jump in the cap next offseason, which I hope not, then the Wings may have to pick three of the following four Fedorov, Lidstrom, Zetterberg, and a goalie to be named later as their upcoming large contract signings. My nightmare is that he does come back and Detroit wins the cup. Then he, Lidstrom, Chelios, Draper and Hasek all announce retirement.
-
Not bad. the elbow bands on the white jersey kills it though hope those aren't the final pants...
-
If these are my only two options then Fedorov as a rental player would be my choice. but I would rather see what's behind door number three. As far as bringing him back after that... Fedorov, Lidstrom, Zetterberg pick two because that's all we will be able to afford.

I expect these type of issues if a team hasn't brought a Russian over before.. but for a Detroit player to have visa issues?

Detnews and so it begins...

I see it going the other way. Drafted players I think will become more important in the future of a team if offer sheets becomes more common place. It will require GMs to actually negotiate with their RFAs as opposed to the way of FA were handled in the past. That way having been signing your UFAs, other teams UFA, and the "peanuts" that are left going to your RFAs. So the way I see it is that teams will now have to take better care of their own in the future and not treat some of their players like they're leftovers. It should show better loyalty from a team by negotiating with their RFAs (Hudler/Filppula/Kindl) before July 1 instead of after the "big names" frenzy has happened. Salaries are going to balance out. Sadly there is still going to be growing pains before it does, like when the ceiling stabilizes and overpaid players get spread around the league. oh, and overpaying players seems to have worked out well for the Tigers. Fans = team loyalty 95% of players = j o b Realistically Detroit has been blessed to have so many players play their entire (or almost) careers here. League average is closer to some thing like 2 to 4 players out of 20? Agents can tell their clients what they feel is in their best interest. For instance Hasek's loyalty was to accept an offer below what his agent wanted him to take.

Yeah because no GMs and coaches ever use the press

Wouldn't surprise me if it did shrink or move a little lower to fit inside the mesh... but hopefully it won't go as small as some of these 70s pics jersey history in pictures

Emery might be the safer bet of the three because of the team playing in front of him, but Atlanta is still missing 1 more defenseman according to TSN. Divisional opponents has me giving the nod to Lehtonen.

Kinda funny story... when this story broke, it was the first time my wife had seen him without his helmet on. First thing out of her mouth was "That's Vick? I used to like but he's too ugly. Put the helmet back on man!"
-
Heaton's right though. They may very well not have a goalie besides Howard still signed come July 1 and the recent history has shown that they'll turn to FA to fill the empty slots.

They believe that a problem will develop between Biron and Niittymaki. Along with the fact that the lcal press doesn't believe either to be the goalie to get it done. Biron doesn't want to be number 2 and Niittymaki supposedly has the skills to change him for the starting role. Both are really good goalies and could work really well as a tandem alternating nights. Esp. if the shellings when the D takes the night off continue from last season. Either way it should be fun to watch next season. Well, better than the Aves when I lived in Utah at any rate.

Don't be surpirsed though if the make a move for another goalie. Local press is eating them alive about them already.

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks

Looks like it takes time for that to happen. Winnipeg in 2011! San Jose/Fran Left: 1976 Returned: 1991 Atlanta Left: 1980 Returned: 1999 Colorado Left:1982 Returned: 1996 Minn Left:1993 Returned: 2000 -
borrowed a copy from the library to read. I have to be selective with what books I buy since I move every couple years. Good book that's mostly unbiased, but goes waaay too far into the history of some players

IMO based on three years living in Northern Utah... SLC has potential to fall in love with another top tier fanchise, but it wouldn't be overnight. After a few years they became fanatical about the Jazz and attendance number have been good (over 16K in two seasons) for their MLS team. They might lose the MLS team due to stadium building issues though. If an NHL team were to be placed there stadium issues would be a problem because the two arenas that they currently have, the E center and Delta center, are both below 15,000 seats for hockey. Something that concerns me is that thier minor league team went from an AHL to ECHL team do to lack of support and costs. Technically the AHL team left and the ECHL team came in, both with the same team name. It was very confusing. Finally, the NHL might not like some of the squirrilly schedule demands that would come from a LDS owner like only home games on Sunday. Which is something that the Jazz currently have in place. (Assuming that it would be a LDS owner of course) Personally since I'm planning on retireing there for now. Everything else be damned and add a team there! Ironically DC did what Nashville's fans are trying to do now and held rallies and what-not to keep thier team. I was surprised about how much the local media was talking hockey over the draft weekend. It took up two local stations and got alot of radio play... but if they don't win or the Redskins start playing again I could see all of that going away really quick. -
Nice work. I was curious about the numbers so I added total team minutes as well. 85-86: 2393 86-87: 2209 87-88: 2391 88-89: 2245 89-90: 2140 90-91: 1940 91-92: 2078 Total: 15396 AVG: 2199 92-93: 1832 93-94: 1775 94-95*: 932 95-96: 1551 96-97: 1582 97-98: 1346 98-99: 1202 Total: 10220 AVG: 1460 99-00: 1014 00-01: 1082 01-02: 1053 02-03: 1214 03-04: 966 05-06: 1103 06-07: 958 Total: 7390 AVG 1056 and geez people complain about folks taking penalties nowadays

It would be great if Howard were to take the next step, but I don't see it happening. If it's because of him or the organization, he will doubtfully spend too much longer in Detroit. Question though, before Osgood who was the last goalie drafted by Detroit to come up and actually play for Detroit? Was it Cheveldae?
-
When it mattered most... does that mean that they just mailed it in during the regular season and then turned on when it came to the playoffs? The more I think about it, the more last season reminds me of the '95 team.
