I thought that it was illegal for shoulder pads to do that, so I looked it up. I see a loop-hole though. From rule 11.3 Goalies are like NASCAR crew chiefs, reading the rulebook not for what is in there, but what isn't.

From how I read the article linked, the two teams from the NHL would be the Stanley Cup finalists. With how long the current NHL season is and they want to add another tourney to it? Could be an interesting alternative to preseason hockey though. I might be biased but I don't know if I like the idea of a cup higher that Stanley -

I think the Ducks are going to step up their hitting, board play some more, but the wings special teams and faceoffs will counter that yet again 3-1 Detroit thanks to an empty netter.

hmm. I always thought that they kept their history from the first Sens left like the Cleveland Browns did. Guess I was wrong though since I couldn't google it. Should make for an interesting opponent.
