Will Shanahan or Fedorov Retire in the Offseason?
vangvace replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I think they'll both be back next year. -
Huggy Bear's hit was further removed from the play and both players were standing more upright in that incident iirc. edited for clarity
-
It was all physics I tell you. It's not Brown's fault he's so tall.
-
I just noticed that with the exception of Sawchuk, all of the other players have gone own to work for or near the Wings org after retirement. Interesting coincidence if nothing else. Thoughts?
-
Lindsay was fighting for unionization, pensions, and benefits where-as Fedorov was standing up for... They also retired Bourque's jersey. How many Wing's jersey's should be retired by that standard? I think his career will be lightly shadowed by what he had to go through to get to the NHL. It's the better story and his NHL career is the happily ever after.

Not so much. So how was the donna key to winning those two cups? (Fairly serious because I really was living overseas then)
-
Technically, he didn't stay on board (the Carolina contract) and couldn't bolt until signing with the Ducks as an UFA. He also new what he was getting into in signing with the Ducks as well. Not that I'm blaming him for the move, but you can't use being on a bad team as an excuse when it was free will to go there. I want to say that the 2002 Cup and maybe even the 1998 Cup could have been one without them, but I don't have the crystal ball anymore, plus I was living overseas then.
-
I believe it's part of the Versus contract iirc.
-
Fedorov had two contract disputes and was questioned from time to time about mailing it in. Also, Detroit has already had a long, dark period where they could have retired more numbers than they did.

The article isn't a call for an enforcer. It's an article about how a fight sparked a team and turned the game around. But wait... It wasn't really about the fight, but Carcillo being dumb?
-
True, but Downey's role and impact during the regular season had it's benefits too. And yes, note the term "regular season" in that.
-
Not really relevant to this thread, nor have I read anything in this thread. I just know that somewhere in here is a fight war and felt like putting this clip in. Fighting/fighters tend to bring/be energy guys. Since when is that a bad thing when done right? Talbot turned the tide with tussle

Traditions have to start somewhere and rivallries help them build/take hold.

I look forward to watching this game later thanks to DVR. Stinking wife for not letting me watch live.

WCQF GAME 1 GDT: Blue Jackets 1 at Red Wings 4
vangvace replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
And so begins the greatest time of the year... The race to drink for the chalice that is... Lord Stanley's Cup. -
Wow the sugar plum fairy land realm of fandom we all must live in... Anyway. Imo what fighters, enforcers and the like bring to the table more than fists is energy. Whether it be directly from a fight or just the electricity in the stands from their brief time out there anticipating that something might happen. There is a hard to deny something that they bring. Ever notice that unless it's a special goal (cup clinching, series winning, etc.) that fans return to their low buzz by the time they drop the puck again, but the place is normally rocking for minutes after a fight (planned not withstanding in most cases)... wel that's enough wasting my breathe for now.

I predict no sweeps in the first round.

That loophole is the hometown discount in today's NHL. Frazen stays a Red Wing and Detroit will pay him market value now and below market value at the end of his career.
-
Like? No. Then again, I don't watch too many games to begin with because I'm out of market. That and I prefer going to games (Thank you Devils for the free tickets) This is what will be coming imo. Possibly by as early as next season to keep from cap shrinkage in the near future: I did some quick "shopping" for an AHL team jersey and I didn't see one for sale with a sponsor patch so... Thanks. I knew they had been doing it, but couldn't confirm that it's still being done.
-
You might be surprised by how many would still buy the jersey if it's just a patch, but who's to say that ads even have to be put on "fan" sweaters. It might even make for a third tier in jerseys as well. Replica, Authentic, and Game authentic (with ads of course)
-
Die hards tend to, however begrudgingly, accept change eventually. If I may make another one... ASG will be the first place the NHL tests ad patches at it's level. Does the AHL still have ad patches on their sweaters?
-
Don't mind the cap hit, but I don't like the length. Nothing against Frazen, I just don't like having a player in a contact sport on the books for that long. Oh and I still think Hossa is an one year rental.

Be ready. It's coming soon.
