Jimmy Howard to start VS San Jose; Brad May replaces Ville Leino
hoogs replied to a topic in General
REALLY dont like Bert on the top line with Hank and Dats, almost ANYONE else would be better..............cleary?? -
Man, is Ozzie ever going to get another start? lol Im not complaining though, Jimmy has been great
-
He will fade into oblivion once again when our real players get healthy
-
He is #18 now? Ewwwwww
-
Love Mick as well.............it'll be a sad day when he hangs it up
-
Good for him that he got a goal, but he looked weak on the defensive end..........especially on the goal play. He left his man WIDE Open in front of the net and scrambled to recover too late, the Wings are lucky the Yotes didn't score right before the Wings got their first goal. He has to be more aware in the defensive end

Bump...........my early season suspicions are turning true. Bertuzzi has been BAD
-
I don't know about you guys, but last night I saw shades of Lang in Bertuzzi and it scared me. Now don't get me wrong, I am not fully committing to this yet, but boy did he look bad in spurts. Weak board play, giveaways and blind passes that lead to even more giveaways. The reason I am not fully committing to this *yet* is because despite the flaws mentioned above, he actually had a decent game and played decent on the defensive side of the puck. I am really hoping this is just him getting adjusted with his new teammates, but I don't have a good feeling

Black Screen here too

The thing I have noticed when the ref blows the call on a goal is that they are out of position. And the time it takes them to get to the net to see where the puck is, is usually too long. So they feel they have to blow the whistle because the goalie PROBABLY has it covered. The goal line judge was the perfect solution, have someone sitting above the goaline to see when the puck enters the net so the refs don't have to pull double duty.....it makes perfect sense. So why did they get rid of them? I think mostly due to technology, and the use of instant replay..........BUT the major flaw there is that they don't always use replay even when it obviously a goal. I think they either need to go back to goal line judges or use replay on every close goal and take away the refs intent to blow the whistle and all that crap that is 90% of the time incorrect.
-
You guys are missing the point though. The ref has double duty now that the goal line judge is gone. He has to watch for infractions in the corner and then skate as fast as he can to the net to see where the puck is. If he is too far in the corner and it takes him awhile to get to the net he will almost always blow the whistle early or have "intent". The system is severely flawed in that way. The reason a goal line judge is 100% needed IMO is because he is always in the correct position and can aid the ref when needed, like in last nights case. 1. The ref sees the play at the net and starts skating that way. 2. The goal line judge sees the puck go into the net, red light on 3. The ref didnt see any of this because of his angle, but the red light is on 4. GOAL It's so simple, yet the owners got greedy and thought they could add more seats in that spot where the goal judge was, that was the main reason for getting rid of him. And IMO broke the game of hockey in a crucial aspect. The goal line judge sitting up in the nosebleeds watching a HDTV is ridiculous if you ask me, none of us knew the puck was in until we saw the replay and neither did the goal line judge. So how can he turn on the red light? STUPID

Yeah I am not specifically talking about last nights game, but it definitely got me thinking. This happens way too much, especially in the playoffs where one goal could mean the difference in a series let alone a game.

Ugh Im sorry but I cringed when I saw the fans at the Joe doing the wave :flamingmad:
-
I'll give him credit, he did look very good tonight. Hopefully he continues to improve
-
Exactly, I couldn't beleive how good Homer looked last night after Bert was demoted back to the 3rd line.......seriously night and day. The main problem with Bert on the first line was that he was floating all over the place, whereas Homer just screens the goalie and lets Dats and Zetts work their magic. I saw Bert floating near the ******* blue line on one play while the puck was loose in front of the net! WTF! I think he got a little too intent on making good defensive plays and forgot that he needs to score as well.
-
Some people are blind, it even stated in that article linked above that he has to watch his turnovers, he is tied with the most on the team.
-
I agree with most of you guys as well, he has looked pretty good defensively *so far*. But is that why we signed him? Im not so sure. Didn't we sign him to replace some of the goals missing from all of our departures? Pay close attention to him in the OFFENSIVE zone and you will see the Lang similarities I am talking about. Bad decisions and looking out of place. Hopefully this is just him getting adjusted to this team and I am wrong about him, but I just have a feeling he is going to end up more of a liability then a contributor to this team. I guess we wait and see. I hope I'm wrong

So true, I never really saw the value in keeping Downey.......he really was TERRIBLE. That being said, I still like the guy and wish him luck. I'd rather have him on the roster than Maltby lol
-
Too bad it costs $2000 lol
-
I think he played a few games when we signed him in 06............pretty bad player overall. Defninitely no 'D' in Delmore
-
I take it Dats didnt win

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
hoogs replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
I'm fine with Hossa leaving, in the cap world that is just the harsh reality. You cannot sign everyone you want to. I am just glad we have Dats, Zetts and Mule locked up long term. -
This guy had 40 goals and you guys don't want him back for 4 mil? Are you nuts??
