GO SENS! Hmmm... Grapes looking almost tasteful tonight. Spiffy! Nice interview w/ Chris Neil-- he asked the linesman if he could have the puck from his goal and put it with his newborn girl Haley last night.... awwwwwwwwww, too sweet. (I'm glad he didn't take MacDonald's head off in that game, he might have wanted to put that in with her too.

Don't be so literal, luv, t'was metaphor..... an analogy, a simile, a synecdoche, an allegory, a parable as 't'were... Merely a device to free you from your stubborn, albeit oddly and eejitly somehow noble refusal to watch a game because you don't approve the reality of it. To fly down from the literary boughs: quite honestly, I believe you have little right to comment on any SCF game, nor the behavior of any player therein, because you didn't watch the play. I lend you no credibility on this point whatsoever, although I do believe that you have, in general, opinions that are worthy of consideration. But not on the SCF. You didn't watch, therefore by example, you cannot now *****. You forfeited your right to that by your own choice. Just sayin'.

I'll tell you the same thing I tell my self-disenfranchised aacquaintances: If you don't exercise your right to vote, you cannot then turn around and righteously exercise your right to *****.... ...because that's hypocrisy of the worst sort.

What would you... hmmm? What would any of you be willing to do, hmmm? Would you sail to the ends of the Earth and beyond to fetch back tickets? -
Nope, he's the CEO. He's the one making the big bucks, he's the team leader: ultimately, it's his responsibility. As Donald Trump (another tool, albeit one with some marketing skills) would say, "YOU'RE FIRED."

Silly God! Disney only pulled out because they want to dedicate all their efforts into promoting their new team, based in Freeport, Bahamas. Said team to be named Pirates of the Caribbean. -

You sound like Johnny Knoxville in JA Number Two, when confronted with a riot-control mine explosive: "Oh, it's gonna hurt A LOT, but it's just loud." -

I don't UNDERSTAND the message you're sending, clearly. I'm trying to, but you seem still contradictory, and yes, still revisionist, to me. "The game was far less physical. Far less intense. Far less fast-paced..." I suppose one could say that of any sport these days (as you did). Fact is, bigger and better-coached players, improved technology, and most importantly, improved technique have all contributed to that. Doesn't seem a problem, also doesn't seem relevant to this issue anyway. If you consider the game historically "less physical," then that result came from the presence of enforcers. The "respect" that you refer to was enforced in blood, guts, and fear. Period. Gretzky would have been half The Man were it not for Dave Semenko. Please know I'm not taking away his, or any other enforcers' role as a great player-- it took a great deal of skill to perform that role effectively. Re your claim that "no one wants to watch a 0-0 game*: Game 2 of this series was extremely exciting to me, hanging-on-the-edge-of-my-seat excitinf-- I don't grok why people think fantastic D is not awesome to watch. I gather you dislike the Bowman style, however... and I hasten to say that it may not be a Good Thing to garner new fans to our fav sport. But hellyaa, I thought Game 2 was thrilling. I still feel like I'm missing your point. Is it simply that you don't like the New NHL rules? If so, what threw me is that you talked about "nastiness of the last several seasons." -
Mister Sandman, unless you have a Neilsen box atop your telly, you DO realize that the ratings gods won't know, nor do they care, what you watch on telly?

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
RedRockit replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
If he's NOT gone for the playoffs, then some medico is doing him a severe disservice. McAmmond was unconscious on the ice for an extended period-- that's concussion, and it's not his first. (having said that, one of RockitSon's football teammates reluctantly admitted to me that he refused to let a doc near him and secretly played concussed for two games in our run to State this year, and that's just HIGH SCHOOL)(scholarship on the line, but what a tough kid anyhow!) I wondered about Holmstrom's TRUE condition when he came back out in Game 3,, as I'll wonder about McAmmond should he play Game 4. The reality is, if he should return, there will be nothing stopping Pronger from sticking out another elbow at him in Game 5-- NOTHING. Oh sure, maybe another game suspension, but that'd be about it.Theoretically, he could end McAmmond's career without serious consequence, were he to make it look as effortlessly "accidental" as the first hit-- which, mind you, didn't even move the on-ice officials to even make a call. What's being missed here is that there is absolutely NO provision for "repeat offenders" in the NHL rules as they stand. NO carryover from one game to the next, from one series to the next. NHL- speaking, legally Pronger's hit on Holmstrom had absolutely no bearing on what he did to McAmmond. Completely separate events, and judgment was meted out accordingly. -

Ehmm... errr... you've been watching hockey since '93? And you think hockey was CLEANER BITD?! mmmkay. Scott Stevens' hits were admittedly far cleaner than, say, Pronger's, but he was no less a brutal headhunter. Probie was there for only one thing: bad arse bodyguard to Stevie. Hell, even Vladddie said himself that he felt his role was primarily to stop the other guy from thinking about scoring-- a pest. Please don't revise our proud hockey history. I don't know what you've been told/have seen about the past, but don't go all grandaddy'-ish "in MY day, it was so much better" on us. It wasn't cleaner, it wasn't more honest. We just knew what to expect a little bit better than with our "New NHL Rules." (and we used to have to walk 20 miles in a blizzard just to get tickets....! and then stand outside the Joe for a week before they opened the doors...! sometimes our toes froze to the pavement, but we were TOUGH back then, by cracky!) -

Entirely different, really. For one thing, it's STILL being slogged out in the court system as to whether Bert paralyzed the poor man with his punch and their subsequent fall, or whether the pile-on contributed. "Alleged" is a useful term here. And may I remind you of Brian Burke's part in all that? -

Duckfan, you're wrong about Duckette, she's a great addition to this forum. Mature beyond her years, and generally very well informed. She's made Duckfans look like GENIUSES here, considering. -

OsGod's right re Getzlaf, and I'm a fan of the lad. If you want a truly unbiased POV, my best friend is anti-Wing and pro-Duck (at least in this series, she wants the Sens humbled is all), and we have had several convos about him, loving his play, his potential, and deploring his propensity for cheapshotting cross checking. It's very, very blatant, and has gotten more so the longer the POs run.
