Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
RedRockit replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
Wow. I didn't think it would happen in a mil. Now that it has, I'm very meh about it. Ducks proved in Game 4 of the DET series that they played better w/out him (did you watch, Duck front office?), and I can see the same scenario unfolding in Game 4 against Ottawa. Hope not, but the Ducks are still a very potent team, perhaps more so without the liability of Pronger. I don't know whether to root for the Sens or the Ducks next game. On one hand, a Duck win w/out Pronger could prove that he really innit all that necessary to the team's success (hence lowering his value), OR... OTOH, if the Sens win, then it demonstrates that Pronger's loose cannonade-style is a detriment to his team's success (hence lowering his value). LURVVE the win-win, Pronger STILL loses scenario here! Hey, maybe Pronger and Lou Pinella can get together and kick some dirt into each other's face.... Nahhh, at least Lou had the grace to admit his mistake after reviewing the tape. -
Ducks; A disgrace to NHL? Trend for good ol' hockey going to the
RedRockit replied to a topic in General
I agree with just about everything, just QFT. Especially the Getzlaf comment. For all the Pronger hoopla, this talented kid is going for the quick cheap fix, and getting away with it. I hate to think of him becoming another Pronger. (I do blame Pronger and Duck PTB for infecting these young guns. Lie down with dogs and you wake up with fleas). Are the Ducks a disgrace? Now, that's going a wee bit too far for me. What is a disgrace is the officiating, and I'm not talking about individual calls, missed calls, whatever. The Wings didn't lose because of officiating, per se-- they lost because our PP couldn't seal the deal, and because of a goalie who had our number all the way, and maybe just because the Ducks wanted it more (*washes mouth out w/ soap* ...I hate that phrase, wtf does it mean anyway). My problem with the officiating, and by extension, the NHL, is that the two teams playing in the finals are both teams who beat skilled teams with "obstruction" that's supposedly not paart of the New NHL. Dude, that's fine if that's what the game is gonna be about, but don't lead skilled teams like the Wings and the Sabres to top the NHL in regular season wins and then pull the comfy, shaggy ref-rug out from under them in the playoffs. The NHL is sending a clear message here. Wait, where'd it go? We seek it here, we seek it there, that demm'd, elusive NHL. -
Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
RedRockit replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
I think by this time he's simply doing what comes naturally-- no wonder he's claiming amnesia-- stuff like that is so much a part of his style of play, and he gets away with it so routinely, that the big TRex probably truly DOESN'T remember. I was shocked he got a game offa the Homer Hit too, but I'll frankly be flabbergasted if anything comes of this latest infraction. The only thing working against him is that there was no initial pen called on the ice. (I need to get offa this thread, posting too much, sorry) -
Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
RedRockit replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
You see, that's exactly why Pronger has been so successful at pulling off his dirty play (and I've been watching him most of his career)-- it's precisely BECAUSE he can produce the same effect (ie, smash a player to the ice) without a blatantly obvoius move on his part. Ask McAmmond if it hurt less then if Pronger had extended his elbow in a more obvious manner! Clever camouflage is part of Pronger's, dare I say, genius in what he does. He's honed it to a fine art over the years. He was dirty even for the Old NHL, but the New NHL rules and expectations throw his practices into sharp relief, open him. his team, and the officiating that still give him free passes to criticism, and leave him vulnerable to NHL discipline. Certainly it can be argued that it was inadvertent, and *shrug* who knows, maybe it was. But that doesn't matter, an elbow is an elbow is an elbow, it's a penalty, and if an elbow hit results in head injury, it's punishable further. The rule against elbowing holds no clauses such as:"Except in the case of one player being taller and another player being shorter, then all is forgiven," or "Except in the case of the larger player accidentally elbowing a shorter player," (of course, a ruling of accidental contact, while not negating a penalty, would go far in mitigating a case for intent to injure.) At least that's the way I'm interpreting the rules. Please correct me if I'm missing something! -
Thanks, but I can't take credit for it, it's not original. It's from a list of "You Might Be From Michigan iF..." That list also includes: "You often switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day," and "You have more miles on your snow blower than your car."

The seasonal changes ARE nice, all four of 'em: almost winter, winter, still winter and road construction.

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
RedRockit replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
There IS a penalty for ELBOWING, however, and if it results in a head or face injury, then the penalty can be assessed accordingly. The REASON a Spanish Archer is penalized is because it's dangerous and can easily result in injury. http://www.nhlofficials.com/images/Rules085-176.pdf See Rule 53. -
Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head

Wrong. {quote]that's no motive lol all pronger did was fling out his elbow. ppl need to relax. do i like pronger? no. did it look like a cheap shot? yes. is it suspend able? no way. "all pronger did was fling out his elbow"--- yes, and it resulted in a head injury, one that could potentially take out that player for the rest of the finals. Please see above modified post that you quoted-- I was being facetious. Please further see a previous post of mine saying that I don't think he'll be suspended. Personally, I think he should be, but I doubt he will. [*yawn* sorry, it's too late to try to figure out my HTML screwup!] -

The plot thickens: http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news;_ylt=AsAq...p&type=lgns "Anaheim Ducks forward Chris Kunitz's return to the lineup was a short one in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals Saturday. Playing his first game in three weeks after breaking a bone in his right hand, Kunitz limped off the ice favoring his left leg early in the second period against the Ottawa Senators. He appeared to be hurt after an open-ice check on Ottawa's Dean McAmmond. Kunitz left the ice and went directly to the team's locker room. The Ducks announced Kunitz sustained a lower body injury and his return was doubtful. " Motive, my dear Watson. [edited to add emoticons because evidently there was a chasm in my sar -
Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head

I'll be STUNNED if Pronger gets suspended again. I just don't see it happening. He deserved a 5 minute major for it, of course. But even though it resulted in injury to McAmmond, it's just not quite as cheap as the hit on Homer (simply as that was against the boards). I think the one(s) that WILL be getting their ass(es) handed to them are the official(s) that missed the call, putting the NHL ireviewers in the same spotlit glare of the media yet again. -
Good job SENS. I really enjoy watching a team take crap and cheap shots and still maintain their cool and get 'em back where it counts-- on the scoreboard. (I will admit to a little of Lou's angst-- a fight woulda been

They'll be yanking Jiggy in a minute here....
-
I was out in the kitchen during break, so I'm not sure who was talking about it, but they (I'm watching on HNIC) were dissing Ray badly-- saying that if he let in one more soft goal, they'd yank him were they coach. I thought they were waaayy off-base, myself. He's not GREAT yet, but he's pretty darn fine in my book.

I fell in love with 'em during the BUF series, even though I was actually rooting for the Sabs. Skilled AND physical, really a complete package.

Beauty, eh? Chris, you need to have a baby every night before a game!!! Go Volchenkov! GO HALEY!!!

Rayzor comes up HUGE, musta heard the analysts putting him down after the 2nd.
-
He gets away with it, that's why he doesn't learn and why he will probably never learn until he finds himself in a Bertuzzi-like fix, after he's ended someone's career...

Pronger with his patented Spanish Archer (El Bow). This man is a menace.
-
Wearing a big puffy parka. Is this something connected to his dehydration glitch, or does he have a bug?

Announcer 1: Pronger is great at camouflaging and cheating on these plays, that's an ability great players have. Announcer 2: Now, "cheating" isn't the right word for it... Announcer 1: Well, I don't know what else to call it.
