It was in net, but Turco put it there himself because he was pushed into it (by one of his own guys, IIRC).

It's Konspiratsia! Or not. Bettman's a tool, but he doesn't have THAT much power or influence. Homer gets away with a lot of stuff, and that's because of the goalies and D-guys slashing and hacking away at him constantly. If the refs consistently called Homes for interference, they'd have to consistently call slashing etc. on D-men and goalies, and the game would get ridiculous. I adore Homer The Goalie Pestilence, think he's hands-down the toughest guy in the league. He just got a weak one called against him tonight. I kinda saw it coming, after Game 1 when his arse was in Turco's face (think it was a good goal, myself, but there's a big difference of opinion around the league on that one).

I'll me-too this post, or rather me-too it because a friend told me the exact same thing tonight. Not that our lads were lazy: it looked to me like the real Stars showed up tonight. "Playing for pride," indeed. (altho I shoulda known, the instant I learned O'Halloranwas reffing. Bet he's jagoff to video of Homer no-goal as we speak) I'm disappointed about the no-sweep: but yanno, pre- 3-zip, all I was hoping for outta the Dallas games was a split, and we got that. [edited because I said Devorski instead of O'Halloran, doh! Same diff, tho]

Will the Versus stream be working for tonight's game? It's not on CBC, apparently, and there's only one pub in town that carries Versus (mine is a HORRIBLE village for sports lovers, except for Ohio State fans/ Browns fans), I could go there to see it, but I just don't feel like going out tonight-- it's cold and raining and a good night to stay in and follow the GDT. Forget sopcast: I've tried over and over for months to get it and it simply won't work. Firewall or something, maybe. Here's the link for the Versus feed, but I read somewhere that they aren't going to be streaming it anymore. mms://a1729.l2168647534.c21686.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1729/21686/v0001/reflector:54953

And I seriously think it helped Wings' fans as well. Now I don't have to listen to my best friend's "Wings bought the Cup" razzing anymore. (still doesn't make Bettmann any less of a bidet, though)

Somebody needs to pull Turco aside and give him pointers on how NOT to speak to the press. He has made himself look completely unsportsmanlike-- not to mention petty, whiny, and childish. Marty's just made himself his own worst enemy (sorry, Homer, that drops you down to #2).

I want to have his baby. Seriously. If you ever let Zetterdawg get lucky with a lady dawg, please save me a pup! I could name mine Pasha... or Yzerdawg, even.

My feel is that in Game 1, the officiating was clearly in favor of the Pens (to the point where even I, a devout non-konspiratsia proponent, actually thought, "oh no, the fix is in-- if Wings make the final, we're gonna be screwed by the refs"). Game 2, however, seemed much more balanced re calls, although I'd give the edge to non-calls in the Flyers favor-- they were getting away with a lot IMO. My overall take thus far is that it's not bias that's producing adverse situations, it's just poor officiating in general. It's almost like the refs are so overwhelmed out there they don't know what they're doing any more. They call the petty hooking and tripping because it's the only thing they're confident they can get right. Everything else-- they haven't a clue. [edited for clarity]

I remember seeing a video replay taken from overhead later in the game that clearly showed it was in-- a blind person could have seen it. I can only think that the officials didn't have access to this particular vid at the time they were making their decision: although why they WOULDN'T have it to review is something I have a hard time understanding. Maybe a tech glitch or something.

I went to the local to watch the game, still some PenFan fisherman there, Wonderful guys, only gave me a little razz when I got pumped over the Richards goal... I razzed them back about Sid's caterpillar 'stache, (they said, "Give him a break, he's too young to grow anything but peach fuzz!") and got this great story back. One of the Pen guys has a friend who owns a liquor store. Crosby came in and tried to buy some vodka, and the owner told him, "C'mon, Sidney-- everyone in this state knows how old you are, I can't possibly let you buy this. Go home and raid Mario's wine cellar!"

Oh and hey, wouldn't it be fantastic to use a smart puck? It would make it a lot easier for home viewers to visualize a glowing puck, and it would look so cool to have a blue comet trail following the action. Wait. Oh. NM.

I don't think that last game's antics will affect our Wings, though it may merely serve to light a bit more fire in their bellies. Wings seem to be far more focused on the scoreboard than on retaliation, and I like that. (having said that, I'll be the first one to jump for joy when sumbuddy hits Ribeiro hard! and I do hope for an embarrassment of rich GA's on Turco The Tool) I don't like to predict scores, but I think this game could be a KO punch. Feel better, Johan. We love and miss you, but your teammates will TCOB for you.

Crap, I can barely see the puck... eejit Time Warner cable, anyway... I'm off to the local after they make a decision... (make a decision, already!)

Crosby goal!

I'm watching, but CBC's feed is snowing a bit so I think I'll shoot up to the local after the first to watch Versuck on the big screen. Go Phi....Phhhhhh..... Philllllllllll.... ahh, pft, I can't say it. I'm rooting Penguins but hoping that The Team Which Shall Not Be Named makes 'em earn it the hard way.

That was The. Funny. Thanks for posting that, having a bit of a bad day here and really needed the grin!

Suggestions for soundtrack: "Animal I Have Become" Three Day's Grace "Spacelord" Monster Magnet "Space Truckin'" Deep Purple "Hell On Wheels" Fu Manchu "Push Comes To Shove" Jackyl There's more, but yanno, you could never go wrong with "Walk" by Pantera. Avenged Sevenfold does a really sweet cover of it if you want to be a little less obvious. (personally, I love the Monster Magnet choice. It's on Rockit son's football championship highlight DVD, and it sends chills down my spine when combined with some of those huge plays.

Thanks so much for the quick answer, BUT ARE YOU KIDDING ME? After the game ending. Whatta tool. No one messes like that with our WizMan. NOBODY.

Questions, questions, questions. Although I was able to keep up with the score, I saw nothing of the game (barring the Kronner/Drake hits shown on ESPN SC after I got off work). I talked to some people who watched the game at the local, and was told by one that there would def be a suspension on the high-stick on Ozzie during closing seconds-- he didn't know who it would be called on, tho. I'll go back and read the thread (I'm not lazy, but yikes, there's nearly 40 pages to read), but would greatly appreciate a quick answer now.

ARRGGHH, I have to work tonight! We do have a POS radio, dunno if it'll pull in 97.1 here though. *crossing fingers and toes* I'll miss the GDT folk-- even though I don't post much, I'm usually here. Although I may go to one of our locals for the rest of the games, I had a blast there last night for the Pens/Philly game. Two different groups of PA PenFans, in town for the walleye fishing, were there, and they all treated me like gold when they found I was a Wingnut who knew and respected Pen hockey (I wisely forebore to mention how disappointed I am in Geno's recent dirty play, tho). Those PenFans, at least, are also hoping for a Wings/Pens SCF (as am I! T'would be grand hockey action). Hold down the LGW fort, gentle friends, and GO WINGS!!!!!

anyone else worried about the versus commercials
RedRockit replied to WingMachine91's topic in General
Commercials during Stanley Cup playoffs mean a lot less than SuperBowl commercials, and when was the last time you saw a 2.5 million dollar SB commercial actually affect the game on the field? This is SOOO not to worry about.... those endorsements happened a long time ago, relayively speaking. I guarantee the players involved care a lot less about it than we do (and THEY got paid!!!). -
I lurrve Malkin, Mara slewfoot aside (argh he's too good a player to throw such a hissy fit). IF the Wings and Pens make it to the SCF (I've been predicting it since New Year's, but as Dick Button sez, "The ice is slippery"), then I fully expect him to be more of a threat than Crosby. Oh yeah, and Hossa rules too.

This has been working really well for me: mms://a1729.l2168647534.c21686.g.lm.akamaistream.net/D/1729/21686/v0001/reflector:54953 I open it in Windows Media Player. Mind you, once in a while the stream cuts out (mostly during the intermissions), but it can be restored quickly and has been pretty reliable. But YAY! CBC will be showing much of the rest of the conference final games (minus two Wing-Stars games, *sob*)-- so I'll be watching there, and not have to put up with the Versuckage.

Deja-voodoo... I've heard THAT one before, and not just this year. Unbelievable, innit it?
-
I've been calling for a Wings/Pens final for some long time now as well, mostly because I've been forced to watch a lot of Pens games this year (guy I was seeing is a PenFan), and I think Pens will win out in the East: they've got all the weapons and there's just that "feel" to the team ethic this year. Having said that, I can make everybody feel a lot better about Melrose with this: PenFan boyfriend predicted the Wings would lose against Nashville-- they didn't. He then predicted the Avs would win Round 2 (even after we won the first two games, he said we'd lose the next 4, citing history). After Game 3, he grudgingly conceded we'd PROBABLY (!) win the series, but that we'd lose to the Stars in the WCF. While I'm superstious enough NOT to predict anything this round, I WILL say this: PenBF has been SOO wrong so far, AND for the kicker: he dumped me for a skeeze who wouldn't know a hockey puck if it flew up her arse (even though I'm sure a few have). He's been wrong about EVERYTHING so far, both hockey and personal, and I'm pulling for a Wings/Pens final. It will be sweet if our Wings win it, and lovely vindication for me (if that's not being too selfish).
