Thanks for the updates on the game, folks: all I can watch on telly is HNIC (GREAT Leafs/Sens game, tho)(and Grapes was brilliant, calling for the end of touch icing). I've dl'd sopcast (several times, including last year during PO's), and it just wont work for me, arrrggh me.

I won't baxh you, and of course you have a right to your opinion, but you need to go back and take a long hard look at those GA's. And IMHO, we never would have played as long as we did in the season w/o Dom. (and I'm am Osgood luvva)

You (and my buddy) may not make the megabucks, but you participate in activities which give other people the means to generate said bucks (ie, purchase cable). For the record, SabFan is more a bitcher slash moaner, not a yello-screamo. And you would seriously learn a lot from her.... but I do understand the urge to strangle her at times!

Oy. May I introduce you to my best bud, SabsFan? She may be a chick, but holy cow, does she know her hockey. (my only consolation is that she IS rather rigid about some things-- so that I CAN occasionally call her out, but she's an idiot savant re hockey and usually trumps me. Argh). She loathes ESPN coverage of hockey, and, apres GD, will treat me to EVERY eejit thing said. I've learned a lot over the years from her, but... I don't get excited about the small details. She DOES. Strangely, it matters to her that people who make megabucks get basic facts right.

I may be speaking out of turn, or interpreting his posts badly, but I doubt, even given the tough talk, that Harold is talking less about "fighting", per se, than he is about the "possibility thereof".... Wings had next to nothing to counter the Dirrty Dux, and there was a parallel in the SC finals against Ottawa (Ottawa having been, heretofore, the BadBoyz of the East, until they ran up against a BiggerBadder). I think he said it very well when he posted the size of former Red Wing Stanley Cup winners. It's obviously not about fighting or enforcers any more (Pronger seems to be grandfathered in, damn his black hockey heart), but it seems to be about size AND talent AND toughness. And SIZE.... TALENTED size. There weren't any FA's on the market this season that we could afford that fit the bill, so whachagonna do, if yer Kenny? The best he could, considering his limited options, and I for one am THRILLED, because this year's cautious spending means a Zetterberg in Wing Future. In case it's unclear, I agree with Harold, Wings've gotten skilled but weak against physical play (thank you expansion/salary cap for that)... but with a nod to some points that Heaton made as well. Dunno why you guys got so testosterone with each other, your POV's really aren't that far apart from each other's. Harold, if I've misunderstood/misinterpreted you, then just lay it off to the Canadian Jagermeister I drank 10 years ago (brain cell loss, doncha know).

Hard as it may be for you to believe, people that grew up in Russia/USSR loved their country too.. maybe as much as we here in America or Canada. Defecting meant leaving their family behind-- without knowing when they'd ever see them again (defectors' families were never issued travel permits, so it's not like they couild meet again in, say, Paris, for a lovely family hol). Don't tell me it was all about the almighty American buck. It wasn't. Elite athletes of that time were treated like rock stars, and lived a rock star life in Russia. It was about freedom to control their own destiny.... yes, some of that was the money, but money is about freedom too.

There's nearly no one who will not vote Stevie on this thread-- it's kind of a duhhh, why'd you even ask? But to get into the spirit of devil's advocacy, I'll say Fedorov, with the Russian Line (I always privately called it The Red Line, for obvious Communistic reasons). Dude DEFECTED to play here, and while no doubt some of that was money, he just wanted a better life.... but unlike most of us, he had to leave everything and everyone in his old life behind to achieve that. Dude came to a new country in the middle of bum-f'n Amorica, had to learn a new language, AND a complete new style of playing,... AND have the Russian mob on his arse wanting their juice.... AND a beautiful teenage superstar tennis wife who had him by his proverbial Russian hammer for a season or so. Un.Be.Liev.A.Bly difficult situation, I honestly dunno how he made it through all that, and is still producing decent hockey to this day. Additionally: only Gordie Howe, Stevie, Nik, and Alex Delvechiio have played more games as a Wing. Cheli certailnly did NOT have a legit reason for not shaking hands-- I defended him at first because he shook the opposing cioaches' hands- I thought there must surely be a darn good reason why he skipped the players' trad. "I was too emotional" is NOT a legit excuse. Every little that plays hockey and may take him for a role model can now use THAT as a model? Whatever. Cheli has now apoogized, kinda, and has expressed his regret (kinda sorta). Bottom line is that he thought that he was beyond the rules of normal hockey ettiquette, and he held our team up to censure because of it. And this was THE year I finally warmed up to Cheli (I'm a far longer Wingnut than he has been a Wing). and he pulls THAT? Ehh, well, I'm always complaining about athletical correctness, tired of athletes' quotes as though they're a bunch of careful Michelle Kwans... there's a deal of hypocrisy in what I think about athletes' reaction to media! NWO is NorthWest Ohio.

I wish you had talked to Cheli. On the whole, pretty fly for a white guy. Very cool. (ohhhhnoooo, am I generalizing again?) I'd LOVE to see rugby played at any level: Where are the leagues in NWO? I think SJJ in Toledo fields a team, but dassit.
