FYI.... the guys at the car dealership can get that out..... could be expensive, depending on what they have to take apart to do it, though.... Also, I suspect the change in location is due to the ring going through the innards of some fish or shark..... probably gulped up the shiny object and..... well, you can guess the rest all those miles away....

Owning a hockey team is not good business -- or is it?
Dixie Wingslover replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
I especially liked this: . -
It really is economic exile.... if Michigan was doing ok, we would still be there..... at least here we have a chance to pay our rent. It's not too bad, except for a real lack of respect for hockey..... and very few Little Caesars - living here really shows how weak a market the South is for hockey...... the BoG and Bettman had to be insane to think these are decent expansion markets.

Taking NHL games away from NBC is something I am all for....... Putting the games on ESPN takes the broadcast out of the locals hands...... I missed 2/3 of a playoff game against Calgary because of the Charlotte NBC local. They thought their weatherman needed that time on a loop, to advise people there was a storm..... I barely had a cloud in the sky over my house. And they considered hockey a sport they could pre-empt. In MIchigan, a tornado warning gets a beeper and a scroll......unless they have film of people dying. Here, a few tree limbs blow down, and the sky is falling...... as long as it's hockey that is on, not football or NASCAR.

While we are on the topic, kinda..... why is it that I can never find a website for Hockeytown Authentics? You would think with all the fans in other zip codes.... they would want to be available for sales.

De nada..... I am a Michigander in economic exile in the South

I have that pic in 8X10, matted up to 14X20..... believe I picked it up at a sports store in Fenton..... can't recall the name, but alot of the card and memorabilia shops have books of pics..... that you can look through and buy the individual print for less than $10, used to be..... then you can mat and frame as you may like, as I did. That's how I got all my Stanley Cup pics, adn a couple of players with the Cup...... I have a Wings room..... I am not an obsessed fan, really!

Balsillie group accuses Bettman of forcing Preds to break off talks
Dixie Wingslover replied to edicius's topic in General
What if Leopold had no intention of selling the team at all? This could just have been a way to get the community and city to fork over some more cash..... make it look like they were gonna lose the team, while Leopold lines his pockets some more. I mean, come on..... as far as B of G goes, he's been Bettmans B**ch for forever...... Voting whichever way that GB tell hims to. I have a hard time believing that he is losing all that money he is crying about..... especially with the revenue sharing now..... and all the other cash streams from that team. Methinks he doth protest too much. -

Why would the Wings not want them moved to Hamilton? or any other team there? -
Good point, I also suspect that a strong support system can make a difference here too.

Anybody else here find it ironic that the only sport that allows fighting ( sort of) has the classiest players outside the game?????

Funny topic, I have thought alot on this..... I think it has to do with the difference in whether a family unit is involved..... kids who play hockey. and advance.... they have a strong family, it takes an investment of time and money by the family to advance in hockey. Often the family sacrifices so that the child can play. A hockey player does not make it to the NHL on his own, there are any number of people who contributed to his success. Football, Basketball, the kid can take it from an early age all by himself. No one to get up at 5 am on a Saturday to get him to the rink, give up evenings and the rest of the weekend so the kid can play. This gives a sense of interconnectedness and responsibility. The hockey kid knows much was given, so sees a responsibility to pay back. The other two, well, they made it on their own, no help, often on only God given talent. The NFL and NBA players that are most like hockey players, ( the gentlemen of these sports) had close connections to at least one family member..... the thugs, they don't have anybody.

Be careful who you lump in here..... not all fans are like that..... just like not all players are money motivated, cash grabbers...... I for one fan.... was well aware of what was going to happen and agreed with the PLAYERS. I never forgot it was the OWNERS ( Bettman) that were responsible for the play stoppage. That is why it was called a LOCKOUT - not a STRIKE. The entire fault lies with greedy management that is now shooting itself in the foot. The whole reason there was a gag order on the owners during the LOCKOUT was that some owners- ( like Ilitch) were vocal in their opposition to the FIRST LOCKOUT and that ended it before Bettman could get the owners what he wanted...... the NHLPA on it's knees. Most of the reason that Detroit could not deal with Bert was the CAP - new MHL style...... I would bet that he could have gotten a deal he was looking for in Detroit, if not for the Cap considerations.

How about that Bertuzzi called Anaheim?????? http://www.mightyducks.com/press/release/a...707&id=1774

It's a rather round double what I would say he is worth..... I would have said, 1 year, $2M.....

While I too liked the idea of Bert, he was, for the next season, a big question mark...... will he re-develop? or will he end re-injured? Or will his baggage finally catch up to him...? For somebody with his reputation, he probably could have made better choices than the Ducks.... oh well, his life, career, and checkbook. You have to fit the team as a whole, and I guess he couldn't didn't want to hack it. I like to see size wearing the wheel on the ice, but for some reason, most of the time, recently, it just doesn't work out..... Bert, Hatcher, Krupp, Big Fisch.... something always happens when we have a big guy..... most of the time, they are valued for their size, not their heart. (Fisch excepted) Point is, size seems to backfire on us.... I just gotta figure that Kenny H has some idea of who will best fill that spot...... He has put together some good squads in the past..... I'll bet that he will again.
