Hey, Like everyone else has said so far, renting a car would be a definite plus, as public transporation is pretty poor in the area, plus if you are staying for a few days you might plan a day or so when you can leave the city and travel to places like ann arbor or novi like others have stated. Lots to see outside of the city and it makes for alot of fun for even us metro Detroiters. Everytime i see one of these "coming to detroit for the first time what should i do" threads i ALWAYS try to make sure i throw in a few restaurant ideas as one of my favortie things to do when i go downtown is to eat. Here are a few options! If you want some good Italian food i recommend The Roma Cafe, they have some great authentic Italian food, and its always delicious. If you decide to got here, they make some of the best Gnocchi ive ever had so i would give two thumbs up to that. Since you have never been to Detroit, i would highly recommend trying to get to Greek town as its a great exxpereince as well. You can walk up and down the streets and hit the little shops and everything, its pretty fun. If you do try this area, my favorite restaurant in that are is Pegasus. Its great greek food. When i go there i always get like 3 orders of the Saganaki (which is flaming cheese), its just GREAT with their bread (and yes, they actually come out and light it on fire right infront of your face, dont sit to close, ive almost had my eyebrows burned off haha). My favorite Entree there is the Chicken Gyros which comes with a GREAT Tzatziki sauce that i make sure to cover my gyro with. I dont usually get desert there, because there is a GREAT little bakery right across the street from Pegasus. The name of the bakery escapes me right now, but you cant really miss it, hopefully someone on here can help me out and give the name. But they have awesome deserts so we usually go there after dinner, adds to the experince as well as the belly haha. Seeing as you are from New York, im sure you know your way around a coney dog, but you cant really walk two feet in the detroit area without walking into a restaurant that offers them. In the detroit/Utica/Macomb, which is where im from, they have a Coney Island on like EVERY corner, which was just awesome, but I moved to East Lansing for school, and i think we only have 1 coney island in the whole city, so i dearly miss my Coney's so i recommend those haha. If you are looking for some good Americanized foods id recommend the HockeyTown Cafe, which if your GF really is a Wings fan, she will love the atmosphere. Its right across the street from Comerica Park and Ford Field, which if she is an architect i think she will enjoy seeing it. I always get the Hockeytown Burger there, i love it. Its simple but cooked perfectly everytime. There is also Cheli's Chili Bar next to Comerica park as well. They have some good food and again a great huckey/sports atmosphere. The chili is good, and they put it on pretty much everything haha. Ive only been there once and cant quite remember whati had, but everyone i know that has gone there has said the food is good. All of the places mentioned offer Free or cheap shuttles to the Joe, so you dont have to fight the before and after game traffic which is always a plus! There are also alot of fun Dive bars all over the city, which are fun to dip your head in and out of as you ejoy the whole experience. Overall, everyone is pretty friendly in the area, and if you are going down there around a time when there are Wings, Pistons and Lions games then, as long as you dont wear a Rangers jersey, the expereince should be a blast haha. The Casinos are fun and offer a great time if you are into gambling. They usually have some decent drink specials. Ive only ever gone to the casinos before and after wings games, and its always fun sitting at hte bar talking hockey with all the other fans there. I have buddies that live down there, they are there so often haha and they say its fun even when the wings arent playing, then again they are degenerate gamblers haha. As for hotels to stay in, i hear staying at the Casinos make for a fun time, but is quite pricey, i would probably recomend just staying in a separate hotel somewhere near, and just drive around town, it would probably be cheaper. I dont know alot of the hotels, so im not the best of help there sorry. Again, i highly recommend renting a car. It will definetly help out, especially if you are trying to impress her. Nothing worse then being stuck in a hotel room for 3 days because a Taxi cant be found haha. Are you flying in? I've driven to New York before and its not that bad of a drive (depending on where exactly in New York you are of course) and it was cheaper than most plane tickets, plus we had our car to drive around rather then depend on public transportation. I would look into that option unless you got a great deal on a plane tickets or something. Either way, i would definetly find a way to have your own mode of transportation.

Wow it is pretty empty in that joint. I thought you were over exagerating, but its pretty empty in the lower bowl, and chances are the people who had upper bowl tickets moved down which makes it even more sad haha.

haha, Kovy scores and Panthers player Ballard goes to break his stick over the posts and winds up but misses the post and nails Vokoun in the head. Vokoun leaves the game on a strecther...crazy

i just turned it on when i saw this to see how many people were actually there. But they are only showing Vokoun and a stretcher what happened?

haha, how did i know from the title of this thread that Drake_Marcus would be the author of every other post lol. This is not an insault by anymeans and I dont know him personally,but i follow his posts religously and know he LOVES this kid. Looking at his stats and potential i can see why haha Hopefully we let him mature a little bit more before we bring him up, although id love to see the wings have a rookie raising some eyebrows in the leage....but i think he has a better chance of doing that if we let him develope a bit more.

This is a great question and to me, has two different sides to an answer. 1) many people may say that the wings started the season healthy and the roster was full and we were still terrible. Why would gaining back payers that we lost early on when we were bad HELP the team when they came back? However others (including me) will say: 2)Yes we will have a drastic change not only in offense but also in all around team play. The team that is playing now has experienced drastic adversity. The wings that have been so good for so long and who have won games without much effort in years past now know what it feels like to be on the other side of things. We've lost great offense in Franzen and gread two way play in Flip as well as good defensive presence and offensive touch in Kronner and good PP shot in williams. Needless to say, the rest of the team has needed to pick up the slack. And althought the team still isnt playing up to their potential, i think by the time these guys do come back off injury, the team on the ice now will have a whole new aspect on the game, which is only going to better this team. We just need to keep our heads above water, learn from the adversity and strive to be a better team. With so many players coming back from injury (key players) and Howard playing better than I and many others ever expected, i think we will be just fine and notice a pleasent increase not only in scoring, but just over all hockey sense and team play.

I was really excited when the wings signed him for 2 reasons. 1) got him for REAL cheap, and 2) I love when the wings go and get a guy that needs some work and turn them into a big project. I loved it when they did it with cleary. Hes done nothing but impress me so far this season. I love players that play hard night in and night out, and there are only a handful of players on our team right now that you can say that about (although the team is all starting to play that way now like they used to). I love that he has the speed that we were kind of lacking and putting him with the other two fastest guys on our team really throws off the other teams at certain points. I like that he plays a physical game and still has decent hands. Like someone said, its hard to beleive that this guy is still only 25, but its awesome cause he gives our team youth, and he hasnt even hit his prime yet, so who knows, he might he turn into a better scorer after another season or two. However, even if he never turns into a scorer, he has already shown that he can contribute on so many other levels. Two Thumbs WAY up. Im really digging the moves that holland made to and get Eaves and im really like the Bertuzzi pick up as well. I think our team is finally starting to click and hopefully get back in the top rankings where they belong.

Alright i know that alot of people are Cheli supporters or ARE Cheli fans but feel its time for the guy to move on, but the guy can still produce. Hes probably one of the best in shape guys on the ice night in and night out, not to mention hes a point per game player so far in his league. People that have seen him play have only had good things to say about his play. Now i know the league hes playing in isnt exactly the NHL by anymeans, but you also have to take into account that the last 2 or 3 seasons in the NHL he was paired with Brett Lebda, who many of us dont find a very effective defensemen. I think that the bad pairing he had for the last few seasons plays a role as to why he didnt have great season, not to mention his last two seasons as a wing it seemed as if he was scratched every other game, so he wasnt given the complete opportunity a player should. Now i know hes slower than he used to be, and has some bad turnovers and such, but i think his play so far this year shows that the guy can still contribute on some NHL teams especially with the injury bug hitting practically every team in the league. If we could possibly get lebda off our books in a trade for a goalie or something then i wouldnt even be upset to see the wings brng him back to take his spot. I know ill get bashed for saying that, but i think alot of fans overlook Cheli because he has lost a few steps, but you have to take into account that this guy was one of the best Dmen in the league for years, and even losing those steps still makes him a good player, even at his age.

Now dont get me wrong by my post, i was never a HUGE sammy fan by any means, but in retrospect it kind of sucks that we lost him. And here is why: I think there were two main reasons sammy left. 1) Money, vancouver could give him more than we could. and 2) Playing time. Im not possitive but isnt Sammy playing on the 1st or second line over in Vancouver? Hes scoring alot because hes getting the extra playing time and isnt playing on the 3rd or 4th lines like he was here. NOW, the reason that it sucks that he left for these 2 simple reasons is this. Looking at our roster now, with all the injuries and such, Sammy would now be playing on our 1st or 2nd line. And had we, or had he known that would have been a possibility, he may have taken the lesser amount of money that the wings offered him. OBVIOUSLY, the injuries are something that could have never been predicited and noone would have expected the Wings to move 3rd and 4th line guys up to the 1st and 2nd lines, but man if we could have kept him for 1 more season he could be having the type of season that hes having this year except in Detroit. I think it hurts us even more now that we lost the player that we brought in to replace Sammy at the point on the PP (Williams) and now have somewhat of a void at that spot. With all that said, Sammy did what was best for him and hes bennefiting for that, and noone can fault him for it. Im glad to see him having such great success this year. This just goes to show how talented the wings teams usually are. A guy that played on the Wings 3rd line can go to another GOOD team and be a 1st liner and lead teams in scoring haha. Anyways, it sucks hes not here, but we have to move on and make due with what we got i guess.

Haha, i cant believe people are still thinking hes going to come here. Forsberg has stated on a number of occasions that he would not feel right coming here after the whole colorado wings rivalry...although chelli was stated as saying he hates detroit and would never play for us....haha but i just dont see it happeneing.

I dont think that Shanny would be a move of desperation. I mean in my book he is no worse than Jason williams. Williams is just as bad on defese as Shanny, but if you ask me Shanny is a little better at puting the puck in the net. Less injury prone too. I dunno, im a huge Shanny fan so i may be blind haha, but i think he would be a great contribution to the team, as well as a decent verbal leader that the wings may be lacking. And no, im not saying that lidstrom isnt a leader, im just saying that shanny is a very verble leader haha.

From the sounds of the contract, his agent is Scott Boras....j/k, but my former baseballe fans will appreciate the humor

Watch me get torn to pieces for this, but i cant help myself. We dont have anyone that we can afford to trade, so in my mind trading is not an option, which leaves us in the free agent/ waiver pool to replace some guys. Now dont kick me off the boards for this but.....shanahan is still out there....im just saying. If hes willing to take the league minimum or bertuzzi money, i dont see why not at this point, we are desperate. Not like williams was contributing that much anyways. Its either that, or ask yzerman to come out of retirement....

He did one two seasons ago at hockey town authentics as a charity thing. If you took a smoke detector you could get one item signed. If you didnt have smoke detector you could get an autograph for 5 bucks. So he definetly does them, though i havent heard of any lately other than the HHOF one coming up.
