Wow, it's like Crosby is having a meltdown and the league is trying to make sure he doesn't kill himself. It's really not that big of a deal. If he's seriously upset about not being picked he clearly has some massive ego issues. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/3632/the-real-story-underlying-the-sidney-crosbyall-star-saga Sweet Jesus, seriously? Crosby gets hit in the head and suddenly they need to ban even incidental hits to the head? I guess whenever someone is coming at you and you have the puck, just crouch so they veer off to avoid hitting your head. I love how things go all nuclear as soon as Crosby gets hurt. Words cannot describe how much I detest that boy and his overall prissy attitude and passive aggressiveness. It's like he knows he has Bettman wrapped around his pinky. Did Gretzky ever pull stuff like this when he played? I only got to see him every now and again, and I knew he had a reputation as a bit of a whiner, but was it this bad?

How did I miss this comment two years ago? This might be the funniest thing I've ever read on these forums. And I second the terrified moment of wondering if this was a new thread, too.

Just finished the game on DVR. I watched the 1st, was pissed. Started the second then, figuring the night would go like a typical Wings game lately, I fast-forwarded until they scored. Then Pittsburgh scored. So I fast-forwarded, too frustrated to wait out the possible comeback, hoping I would see something to make me stop and watch. Instead, it looked like Pittsburgh just continued to dominate. Most poorly played game of the season, I think. EDIT: And did anyone else find it just so stupidly predictable that the backup to the backup's backup broke his fingertip in a pre-game skate? Sigh.

Again, I have to point out that the players picked the captains I think, which means Crosby would not have gotten the captaincy even if he was able to play. I'm still not excited to watch the game. Lidstrom may pick the team but what does it matter? The game will end up being a close one anyways as they all try to play fair. He doesn't even have to put any thought into who he picks. And as for the Skills Competition, that can be fun to watch, thank God we're in the age of the internet and I don't have to sit through it all and watch it on TV. Youtube here I come for very short snippets of the important stuff.

I hope they make costumes for all of these and have them parade on the ice, just to show how utterly stupid this is. I can see them walking around the ASG weekend events getting on TV and embarrassing the league.
-
I didn't think their jerseys were bad. At least it was distinctive. Now they just look like half the other teams in the league.
-
The other players in the league despise Crosby. The past few years someone does a poll of players asking various questions and Crosby always tops the most annoying, the biggest whiner, etc. No way he would've been picked as Captain even if he was healthy.

Three things. 1: The NHL Guardian Project is a colossal flop. It's lame. The designs are uninspired and each one has way too may superpowers. And lame ones, too. 2: If the Red Wing has jets on its back, why does it need really clunky wheels to stand on? 3: I love that the Red Wing sounds like the one in charge.

Haven't seen an OHL game in about...six years? But I catch them on the radio now and again. Wish I could go more often. I root for them and know a little about their players, but can't follow as closely as I'd like. I love that they're playing so well this year, they've been getting better and better each successive year.

Nothing like completely changing your color scheme to establish a tradition, eh? I get tired of all the jersey changes. They all get more cluttered and more generic. A few of those actually aren't bad but it won't matter because they'll change them the season after next anyway. I always liked the throwback jerseys. I especially liked Florida's originals and Atlanta's originals. Sometimes I just don't understand why they change the jerseys if they were fine to begin with. Money, I guess. EDIT: The Wings don't use theirs because they only use third jerseys to celebrate special occasions. I love the Winter Classic jersey but I like not using it very often. If they did use it I'd hope it would only be against Chicago or at least an original six team, they have the best jerseys and they would look great on the ice.

http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2011/01/red_wings_recall_tomas_tatar_t.html The first comment after the article admits things are hazy, but things like the Wings re-activating Larsson's profile on the website do seem to back up what they're saying. Basically, it says Ozzie is done for the year and Larsson will be brought in to be Howard's backup. Which terrifies me. Honestly, I'd rather have MacDonald stay up as backup, since he actually does have NHL experience, than an unproven Larsson to back up a shaky Howard...

Yeah, I'm not saying it's an outrageous sum, just that it's funny he'd charge more than Detroit's hero and expect to get anyone wanting him to sign things. I'd dish out the cash for both of them, though, a cool piece of history even if he is scum.
-
NOOOO! Honestly I don't feel at all confident with Howard in net. He just LOOKS shaken. MacDonald gave up a bunch of goals but I honestly don't blame him for any, whereas every Howard game we're blaming two to three on him. With an important game among two of the better teams in the league (plus bragging rights among the fans) I'd rather go with J-Mac than Howard.
-
I don't think San Jose is stupid enough to pin this on McClellan. But part of me hopes they do, and hopes that no other team wants him so that he can return to being Detroit's defensive coach.
-
I find it really strange that Lemieux will be there, especially charging MORE than McCarty's?

I don't think Miller has disappointed this year. Some people (including myself) were wondering if he'd be too redundant to keep around next year, but not because he's playing bad, just that he doesn't really add much that we don't already have, but he works his ass off every night and that counts for something. Every time the team gets depleted with injuries Miller steps up and starts scoring, I've changed my tune and now think he should be kept on the team because you never know when the team will get injured like this again and he's reliable. Also, I felt that the goals allowed last night weren't all that bad. For once they weren't goals that the goalie should have had or ridiculous defensive breakdowns. A lot of the goals took crazy re-directions (not those slight angle changes that go in on Howard) or went through a ton of people. Not too unhappy, even though they allowed five goals.
-
Me, too. He's spent more time off the team than on it this season. At any rate, he was picking up his play a bit, hopefully he can make an impact when he returns.

Nobody is calling for MacDonald to be THE GUY for the playoffs. But it's not the end of the world to have him in net. Howard was averaging something like 4 goals a game for the last month and a half. You can't get much worse than that. Howard IS a mess, his positioning is terrible and his attitude has been terrible, too. He's letting his play get to him. And even sitting on the bench he's "owed" so many starts which will only snowball out of control. He's playing with no confidence, he's lost his confidence in his positioning and is laying on the ice way too often. He's got work to do to re-tool his game. I don't think anyone is giving up on him, instead we're just calling for a reality check: he can't fix his game WHILE he plays. At least while he's injured he can clear his head if he can't actually practice. Would give him a fresh start and let his passions cool. Obviously it's not ideal that he's out but playing him even every other game is way too often right now.
-
What, exactly, would you have Holland do? With so many injuries there's no way to tell what the team really needs. The team may be struggling now but there's such a good chance that those guys coming back will be exactly what the team needs. I get tired of hearing this attack. They'll all be back before the playoffs start, so the team won't be missing anyone (knock on wood). What move would you make to clinch the Cup for the Wings if you were GM and facing the injuries that throw any evaluation of the team out of the window? Eaves on the first line? Yes, please. I think he's got talent, might as well give him a chance to show it while there's room at the top.
-
Well, since he's our ONLY goalie for the moment (until someone is called up) I'd say he's going to play the lion's share of games while Howard and Ozzie are out.
-
Well we didn't lose anyone last game so clearly we were due for TWO injuries tonight. To be honest, I'm seriously concerned about a particular player becoming injured on this team, but I don't want to say it for fear of jinxing it. But he's been fighting through a nagging injury and been carrying a lot of the load if you catch my drift... Clearly 20 year olds don't break their hands.
-
I'm in the same boat as the other starving college students here, but I support this in spirit. I vote for LGW getting their name on the donation, and anything involving sick kids can't go wrong. They need help more than anyone.

I also feel like the injury to Howard is a blessing in disguise. I know that probably makes me a bad person, but it means Babcock has to stop making him carry the team. He clearly needs a break and should re-tool his game, but apparently Babcock thought one game off was a "good, long break." Ozzie should have been started more before he was injured, and thank God MacDonald (even if not starter material in the long run) is considerably better than Howard has been.
