I'm going to see Lebda now whenever I eat apple turnover. And somebody has to make that first post picture into an avatar, with the closeup of Lebda's face. His whole posture and facial expression is priceless.

Who Was the Last Wing to Score Back to Back OT Goals?
VM1138 replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
You know, I might be inclined to say it's never happened. We know it hasn't happened after 97. Add into that factor that back-to-back OT games aren't that regular, and beyond that it's even less likely that one player would score both goals in a back to back. It's always possible but I wouldn't be surprised. -
Chelios has always been my favorite player, and I'm glad he's still playing. He's doing well in the AHL I hear, more power to him.

Milestone Watch - Chris Osgood Approaching 400 Career Wins
VM1138 replied to gcom007's topic in General
No arguments here, Ozzie is a class act. He's probably more Red Wing at heart than any player on the team right now, next to Draper and Lidstrom. He's a fan favorite (even despite the razzing at times) for a reason. EDIT: And Sawchuk had 447 wins. Anywhere from 1-3 decent seasons and he can reach it. -
Wow, Bertuzzi scoring 4 goals in two nights, two OT game winners on back to back nights? Something tells me this might be the real deal. If it was only one goal, maybe not, but back to back two goal nights? If Bertuzzi can start scoring again this could be the start of a team-wide scoring wakeup...I hope. Missed the game, but it's good to see Bert, Datsyuk and Miller all getting 2 points.

You know, Stuart has consistently been one of our best players since we acquired him, and I wouldn't necessarily be against him being Captain. It's just that he's a fairly recent addition, and there are other guys (Zetterberg mainly) who are in line ahead of him.

I missed the game, but love that vide of Abdelkader's fight. Not many players keep fighting after they're on the ice. That makes Abdelkader that much cooler in my book that he's throwing punches while on his back.

You know, I think that's what's most frustrating. The Wings have fixed their goaltending and defense. Everyone seems to be playing well. We're just not scoring. But we're not necessarily doing anything bad. Everything always seems to be just out of reach, or just behind, or hitting the post, or off to the side. It's frustrating because the team is not playing like a bottom feeder, or even mediocre, things just aren't going their way for some bizarre reason. I think if they ever really regain their scoring touch this team is going to be just as dangerous as it has been in the past.

She's from Russia. The cold is irrelevant. If anything, Michigan is a little warmer than where they're from.

A month ago our goaltending looked really shaky and it really looked like Howard would never make it. Naturally Holland would shop around. But now? There's no reason to get rid of Howard, he's doing consistently well in a rookie season. Especially to give up Helm? I think people are just reporting old news without realizing it happened a month ago and is no longer relevant to the Wings.

Normally I would agree with you, but with sports, these "private life" stories are mingled in with general interviews conducted by sports reporters. Therefore, even if you're not looking for personal information, you're going to get it reading a review of a game, or a pre-season preview, etc.

Look, assuming this has a kernel of truth (which is a stretch) it may not be as simple as "she doesn't like it in Detroit." That could be sugar coating it. Maybe they're having some more personal problems? Maybe a family member is sick? Simply not liking it in Detroit is not enough of a reason to throw someone off a game, but REAL family problems could be.

And those players are among our best ones right now, so we might just be screwed when they get sent down to clear space for returning injured players. HOpefully Flip can have a better season and Franzen can return to form.
-
No he wasn't. He had a good first couple games and then returned to typical invisibility.
-
Which sucks because Leino has proven to be just as snakebitten as everyone else. I think I'd rather give one of the GR kids a chance. We have a good history of call-ups having ridiculously good showings (better than their careers sometimes).
-
Howard has been solid for us. He's really clamped down on his rebounds and it's made him much better. I think this is one of the bright spots, our goaltending and defense has improved drastically, as has our penalty kill. Now we just have to get our guys scoring again and the team will be alright.

I thought he was a Russian Duma minister or something? Or was that Larianov? Or was he in charge of hockey operations?
-
I liked him when he was here and was bummed when he left, but afterwards (I don't remember hearing much about him during the season) I learned he's apparently close to Belfour-crazy.
-
Thank you for making sense Aussie. A year ago he was one of the best in the world and now he's worthless? He'll come out of it.

The frustration on my part is that we're not playing bad. Compared to earlier this season especially we're playing great. But for some reason the timing on the shots just isn't there. The frustration is that this losing doesn't make any sense. I thought the team played great tonight but was, yet again, snake bitten.

I don't like this "50 game" stuff I keep hearing. The more time runs out, the harder it will be. Not only do we need to start winning a lot of those 50 games, we need to win more than other teams are winning. I think people forget other teams play games, too. And if they keep winning, we have to win more, faster in order to catch up, 50 games or not.

Best case scenario we grab a few more depth role players, which we don't need. This whole team is role players. We are really missing Hudler and Hossa right now.

Red Wings VP Jimmy Devellano on Fan 590: Wings fans should lower expec
VM1138 replied to kook_10's topic in General
What? That's ridiculous, I can't believe how many people here think missing playoffs would be a good thing. If they need rest, sit them once in a while. We're already losing games, put Datsyuk on a lower line for a game (he's trying so you can't bench him), give him less ice time. It's time we make our stars angry, show a little emotion. -
I don't know, Datsyuk and Zetterberg (more Zetterberg) never had trouble scoring really. Datsyuk did initially, and I'd say he's more of a playmaker. Those two certainly should be scoring, especially against these absurdly awful teams that keep beating us. We do need a natural goal scorer, but we're not getting one until Franzen comes back, and who knows what condition he'll be in when he returns.

It is. For Christ's sake.
