Work is going to be really long and boring today. Especially around 5 o'clock I'm going to start getting antsy I think.

Hossa is a perfect fit for this team. It always amazes me how easily people forget. We wouldn't be where we are without Hossa and Dats carryign this team in the regular season. He's having a rough playoffs but he's still performing for us. He's not a liability in any sense and he's still trying to make things happen. He's not lost, he's tryign to do too much and might be injured. How easily we forget how amazing he was for us during the regular season. And who cares if he's streaky? So is everyone else.

This game has all the makings of a classic. Just win, Wings! We all know you can do it if you put your mind and heart to it. It doesn't matter that you won last year. I don't want to hear from any fans or players that it's not as important to win. Your pride is still at stake, there are players who haven't won, and you play for your teams honor. This run is just as big, if not bigger than last years. No arrogance or overconfidence, just go in and win!

I think if it goes that far, I'll be so numb I won't even notice if they lose until the next day.
-
Isn;'t the rule that you have to play a game in the PLAYOFFS, not necessarily the finals? Chelios will get his name on the Cup.
-
Get better soon, Lilja, you've really come a long way and you're now a staple on this team.
-
Whoever does end up leaving (and I'm betting at least three do) let's hope they leave as Champions!
-
Just bought a Hossa T-shirt from Meijers yesterday to give him a little extra mojo.
-
Don't really like them. Like a good fan I'll probably buy one, but I don't like the color scheme. Black would have been better. Even white again. I like the shirt, though. Hope we win so I can buy one.

There's actually a spray you can get that makes the white hates really resilient. I've worn my hat a lot through a hot summer last year and through winter and it's only now getting a few light smudges. I forget what the spray is called but you can get it at any hat store. It actually works. It's a waterproofing thing. And I don't like the new Cup hats. THey look worn out, poorly designed.

Exactly. Take away Hossa and we're not even one of the top seeds in the playoffs, let alone in the finals. He's not scoring quite as much as we'd hope, but then again none of our big stars are. He's playing excellent defense and is making some things happen out there. Is it disappointing? A little, but it's hardly BAD. Lock him up, Kenny!

It seems every time these arrogant threads pop up we lose. We're superstitious people! Lock it up!

I feel confident. Everything points to a Wings win. Of course, the gamei s played on the ice, and that's why I'm so nervous. I was almost sick with anticipation last night inthe final minutes. I can't handle a Game 7, especially if it's close. And I might be physically ill for a brief moment if Crosby lifts the Cup, and that's no exaggeration. It's just such a distasteful, disgusting idea to have a whiny little brat with no leadership skills lift the Cup and be hailed as the greatest player ever. But I love this Red Wings team, I want them to win it and I think (hope?) they will. Absolutely anything can happen. They need to show up early, and if they don't, it's going to be a long night. What the heck am I going to do in the next two days to keep my mind of fit?

Win or lose- this Wings team of last 2 years is a team for the ages
VM1138 replied to thegreat66's topic in General
It's been a memorable run. It all comes down to Friday night. If they win, they're definitely one of the best teams assembled. I think that the '90s Wings team was a little grittier but this era Wings team is more dominant overall. And, since I wasn't aroudn to see early Cup wins, it's hard to judge them against that. I think that right now though, we're looking at the most dominant Wings team ever to skate. -
No one really argues that the Pens are the better team when both teams are at their best. The problem this season has been the Wings have a tendency to fall asleep at the wheel. They've escaped so far, but there are no makeup games to fall back on. They need to show up and play like they did in Game 5, or even like they did for the lats half of last night, but they need to do it for a full game. The Wings have grit and heart. As long as they realize they're in a Game 7 the Wings should win.

Let's go Kronwall's!

Helm. The Cup winning goal will be Helm's.

How will this Cup series be remembered outside of Detroit
VM1138 replied to thegreat66's topic in General
I can't put my finger on it, but it seems like last year was a bit more entertaining. Sure, this is going 7 games, but it's mostly due to complete and total ineptitude of each team in various games, not because of mind blowing stellar play making them evenly matched. It's a very good matchup, certainly better than most we've had the past few years, but for the moment I think 2008 was the better final. Unless of course Game 7 is some sort of crazy game. But even if the Wings win (and I hope they do) I think on the outside it'll be overlooked sort of like how '98 is always neglected at the expense of 1997. -
Baby steps, baby steps, the NHL will get there. I don't think anyone predicted it would where it is now a few years ago. It's picking up momentum and popularity, largely thanks to the Wings and the Pens the past two years.
-
Terrified for the Game 7, as it has more to do with luck than skill, but the Wings have a tendency to absolutely bring it at home, and this series could easily become a series where only the Home teams win. Ozzie was huge for us, and will be again. I just hope Detroit doesn't take the night off again. They don't have any bounce back games left. But it will be sweet if they can win this for the home crowd.

Here's a scary thought: A more recent game 7 was the Pens 7-0 victory over the Caps this year. I'm pissed. Wings just couldn't catch any breaks and failed to show up in the first. This should not have happened. I'm scared as hell because Game 7's are all about luck and we haven't been a terribly "lucky" team this playoff run. I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist but who knwos what sort of penalties are going to be called early to give the Pens a head start. The plus side: The Wings step up their game at home, and we will actually get to see them win it in front of the home crowd like most of us wanted, deep down. But Game 7's are so unpredictable, I'm really pissed that the Wings might just lose on some BS lucky bounce or something. It should have never have come to a Game 7. This should have been done in Game 5. But I'll stand by them. After their Game 6 performance I have faith they;re going to put on a show and win it for the home crowd.
-
Sykora? He hasn't been good in years. Has a cool name, though. I can't handle a Game 7. I want them to win tonight so bad I'm actually kind of okay with missing the game due ot work. Now, hopefully the score can remain a secret until I can get home to watch it. Go Wings! EDIT: The Cup won't go to Ericcson. The guy is a kid who will have another chance. The Cup, no doubts, goes to Hossa, Osgood, maybe Conklin, then Datsyuk.
-
Yeah, he seems to be one of those easily replaceable players who will be journeymen their entire career.

Well, we are so old this is our last chance to win the Cup. Right?
