You know, after all this time I still can't get used to Samuelsson. He doesn't look like a hockey player. He's so freaking skinny! It's like the scarecrow playing out there. Maybe it's just the helmet looking so goofy on him.

I really don't notice a difference in the uniforms at all. Other than the C on the wrong side.

The empty seats are sad. The Wings are playing kind of sloppy...but it is the first game. I guess I just expected a bit more from the guys.

I'm really surprised, too. Everyone else EVERYWHERE is on the Anaheim/San Jose/Ottawa bandwagon. And the first people to pick the Wings are a majority of a panel? Awesome. Of course, it means nothing. Le'ts just hope we don't disappoint. It's a long season and a lot can happen. And how freaking cool would a Rangers/Wings game be? The two most popular teams in the NHL going head to head would draw massive ratings (at least realtive to NHL-level ratings) That would get America interested as well, because they are two of the most popular teams in any major sport and would sure draw in casual viewers who haven't seen either team play in years.

I like Luongo and everything, but I'm glad we didn't get him. No matter how good the goalie is, it doesn't make sense to get rid of your best players. THen we'd be just like every other crappy team with a good goalie. I love all the Wings, but Datsyuk and Zetterberg are the glue. Goalies are a nice addition, but some coaches seem to think that a good goalie somehow makes you a winning team.

Ottawa has an amazing offense, but we really need to realize that going to the Finals means nothing for the next year. I know everyone seems to think Anaheim and Ottawa are suddenly amazing teams, but we haven't had a team stay good the year after they won the cup in years. Not saying they will suck this season, but it's definitely not a given. Ottawa will make playoffs, but there's no reason to suspect they'll win.

Off-topic (kind of) question: What kind of camera were you using? I thought the Joe had some sort of rule against certain size cameras, and those pictures are near-professional (great job!). I'm asking because I have a camera I'd like to bring, but I wasn't sure if the Joe allowed it.

Pennant race baseball is just as boring and generic is regular race baseball. Seriously, they play like 200 games, it's okay to miss a few Tigers games on TV, especialyl since it's widely considered one of the worst sports to watch on TV. I don't know anyone (even die-hards) who sit and watch even half a Tigers game on TV.
