Yeah, get used to Abdelkader up there. It's playoff time and I have a feeling its going to stay that way.
-
Great stuff. There's always room for humor in pro sports, but he's lucky it didn't cost him a goal.
-
Also, I think Toronto has the ROW tie breaker with us, so unless tey lose we need three points to get out of their reach officially.
-
We need 3 more points to clinch, less if Jersey, Washington and Toronto lose again. So 1-2-1 is good enough to clinch. Edit: Incorrectly assumed we had five games left.

Is the Real Brendan Smith Finally Starting the Show Up?
VM1138 replied to NYC Wings Fanatic's topic in General
Also eye opening is just how bad Quincey is for a top 4 guy. Can you imagine what the chart showing how much better he makes his partner looks like? Eek. But anyway, most top 4 guys make mistakes and Smith has really cleaned up his play. I think the key is, If you can't improve your weak areas, improve your strong points to offset. And I think Smith is doing that by being more offensive minded and aggressive. -
Their top two is, yeah, but they're both injured, aren't they?

The architecture comment in ZandDfortheC's post intrigues me. I suppose it's too much to hope for the new arena to have some local character to it. Some gothic style touches or something.

Pittsburgh is obviously good, but we are an even match. We have the same strengths and weaknesses. The only team that is heads above anyone else in the East is Boston. It's the rest of the teams that worry me. Tampa, Montreal, etc. They're ripe for upsetting someone down the line.

I like Howard and don't think we NEED to swap goalies, but the idea of Miller joining us is tantalizing. I've always imagined him playing here later in his career. Joining his brother on a rising team might give Holland the storyline motivation he needs to be really aggressive in building a Cup team.
-
Agreed. They don't need a rebuild, they need to change management and coaching.
-
Great signing. He's an agitator and is an effective shut down guy. What a story.

I don't see how the Sedins get moved. Their package deal is going to make It nearly impossible for a another team to take them. Only a few teams have the assets and less are willing to part with them. They probably make what, $12-14 million a year? That's a lot of cap space. I'd say Vancouver would get fleeced as usual but teams would have to give up a lot just to have room.

Detroit says Weiss "Not Getting Better", likely done for year

This sounds like a complication from surgery to me. I don't think its a training thing. Nothing he or the trainers can do but rest now, I bet. But yeah, fire them because I do think they were responsible In part for this whole season. -
Let's see, won a few games, facing a terrible team with nothing to play for with a third string goalie. This has upset written all over it. But seriously, a multi goal win would be great.
-
We still need to win but there's more room for error than last year. We need 7 points as of today to clinch. Less if Washington and Toronto lose. We have a potential 12 points on the table. So we can afford to go 3-2-1 and still clinch. Don't want to count chickens before they hatch, but that's doable. And we don't have to rely on other teams losing like we did last year.
-
Yup. I never understood why people thought Tortorella was a good coach. The guy is like a two year old. I'll also never understand how there can be so many bad owners and GMs. I get that it's a hard job, but if people like us can see problem areas three years in advance, why can't they?
-
That's entirely possible. But wouldn't they rather have him play for the Griffins? It's not like it'd hurt them or him.
-
There was a rumor going around that he was to go to the Wings, not the Griffin, once his season was done. Coming from Fischer. But it wasn't very specific, so we dont know, if true, if that meant he was going to watch, soak in the atmosphere, or play. Why come up here when he could play with GR and get playoff experience there? It just seemed strange. But if ever the Wings would take a chance on someone it's this season and the player would be Mantha.

The whole point of shutting Datsyuk and Z down was to get them 100% healthy. And the surgery Z had is supposed to do wonders. I think Z will come back midway through the first round. That means if we steal the first game is two, he should be back in time to keep our opponents best players from getting a second wind. Letting us shut the opponent down to finish the series. Timing Is everything in the playoffs.
-
I wonder If Holland is still considering calling him up this season. Not that we need him, but if we lock up a playoff spot it might be a good idea to let him play the last game. Then again, our team is finally developing great chemistry.
-
Don't get too comfortable, guys. We won three games, right? That means, if this season's pattern holds, we will drop the next two, maybe three. Lets us finish the season winning a couple games, though. If the pattern holds.
-
You're possibly right. But on the other hand, we all knew he would be good. And he's scoring in so many different ways (unlike someone like Brunner) that it's also unlikely he'll he shut down often. He's so well rounded. I think we can fairly expect 25 goals a season from him, at least. Entirely possible he scores 30 most years, too. But I do worry about that sophomore slump year.
-
Agreed, Nev. The Boston phobia is excessive. We do just fine against them. Win some, lose some. Nothing to cower under the bed over.
-
We play strong against the good teams, we're healthier. I think we can keep their scoring down, its just a matter of if our offense shows up other than Nyquist. I'm not as worries as others. Boston doesnt dominate us and we took care if Pittsburgh the other week. They're just a team and they're due for a loss.
-
I like our chances, at least for a few rounds. It won't be pretty and the series will be long, but we'll get it done. Last year we were worse and still almost made it to the conference finals. Defense and goaltending are our big weak points. Howard is good but he doesnt go on very long hot streaks like other goalies do. And our defense....well... The good news is that in the East, only Boston boasts a superior defense. So the other series should be shooting galleries.
