I don't see what Kubina adds to this team. I certainly hope he's not our only deadline acquisition, then.
-
It has to be one of those teams. I think the Rangers benefit from being from New York (America's city), but the Wings I think generally have a larger fanbase, but I'm not sure on this one.

I don't know what Malone's contract looks like, but from the sporadic times I've seen him play it seems like he's a pretty good playoff performer. As long as we don't lose someone who produces more than he would, it'd be a good trade. Tampa would be a good trading partner. We have good relations with Yzerman obviously, which helps. Of course it's a business but it's always easier to do business with someone your GM gets along with. Also, Yzerman is familiar with our prospects and might have a soft spot for a couple of them. He'd be more willing to take a risk on someone he's really familiar with than some other team's prospect who he only knows through recent scouting. It just sucks that our draft picks are basically worthless because we always draft so low.

So we let this one slide for Nashville. But nothing can ever explain that giant sign depicting a pig-nosed Toews with the Cup.

You're right, I can't believe I made such a glaring logical error. Color me corrected.

It seems that usually when Detroit is rumored to be interested in a really questionable player, the media usually gets it wrong and Detroit is actually interested in someone else on the roster. Is there anyone that would help Detroit that might be available from TB?
-
Sharks went with Moore instead of Nash? The asking price for Nash must be STEEEEEEEEP. I'm betting we see basically every team walk away from him fast if that is true that San Jose just dropped out.
-
I don't think Abby will do bad on the 2nd, I just wonder why he's centering it instead of playing wing when there is a more capable center in Flip available.
-
If he goes to Boston they're a lock for the Finals. Holland better plan accordingly.
-
Why would Abby center a line with Flip? At any rate, I really wish they'd put Tatar on a top line. With the Wings in 1st place, now is the time to give our future superstars a chance to get some confidence. Players that aren't destined to be 4th liners shouldn't be stuck on a 4th line.

I just don't get this whole depth defenseman rumor. The only way we need one is if we lose one in a trade for a forward.

I'm not against Seattle having a team, but with so many teams struggling expansion cannot seriously be being considered by anyone with authority. I know the corporate business mantra is "always expand" but that's why so many businesses are collapsing or struggling. The NHL can be made to work with 30 teams through relocation but I really don't think there are enough profitable markets to expand. Not to mention there are already several teams that are basically just AHL teams (Islanders, Columbus) with a few scattered NHL players, goodbye parity. Florida to Seattle could also open up the Wings moving East, since Winnipeg would come West, creating an imbalance requiring two teams to move East, thus increasing the Wings chances.
-
Lundqvist can have the Vezina. Howard will take the Conn Smythe.
-
It also seems like Nyquist just sort of popped on the radar this season. Tatar has been hyped up for years, and like people said, he hasn't really disappointed, despite not blowing open the AHL. Not every NHL superstar dominates the AHL. I'm not saying he will be a superstar, but he hasn't been a bust and you don't just give up on someone with the potential of being a first liner on the Red Wings. When he's 21.
-
That's not even logical. The record was 20. So if Boston was forced to play a home game on the road, that would mean the record is 21, not 22.
-
So long as the Wings don't take against the Central, I think the other Central teams have much tougher schedules. So again, barring some inability to beat St. Louis, Nashville and Chicago, I think we're okay in the division. But if the Wings want the Presidents Trophy they can't afford to slack off, the Rangers are one point behind with THREE games in hand still. Also, Vancouver is right on our tail as well if they catch up in games with wins.
-
Haven't seen a game in a while it seems. I think they'll come out strong for a couple of reasons: 1) It seems like they're shifting into playoff mode. 2) They know they need to keep winning because they don't have much of a cushion. They are now motivated at the very least to stay ahead of St. Louis. 3) They want this 21st win. I know it seems like a bunch of professionals with a long history of winning probably wouldn't put too much stock in it, but it seems like they are atoning for last season's inconsistencies at home (as a recent article on the Freep I think attested). Dallas better look out. The only way they run into trouble is if they look past Dallas by focusing on everything else and forget that there is a real hockey team they have to beat before getting the record, not an abstract idea.

Makes me wish three things: 1) That I had a cabin on a great frozen lake. 2) That I knew how to ice skate. 3) That I had enough friends who loved to play hockey to make something like that doable. Great video.

Agreed. Pittsburgh is doing phenomenal for missing Crosby and Staal. (Or has Staal come back yet?) They'll likely challenge for at least the Conference championship.
-
I'm just getting excited that each year it seems the Original 6 teams get closer to a Cup final. With Detroit, Chicago, Boston, and the Rangers in the mix, here's hoping two can make it to the finals!
-
Tatar has enjoyed a lot of hype even before Nyquist, if I recall correctly. Tatar has had steady development and wowed the front office more than any of our other forward picks at the time. I think he had one so-so season in GR but he's still slated to be a top 6 prospect, many think a top 3. I don't watch the prospects that closely, but the only reason Tatar has faded off the radar a bit is because of the hard on people have for Nyquist (not cutting Nyquist down at all, but I was always more aware of Tatar than Nyquist), but he's still going to be an impact player in a couple years.

what should our 2013 winter classic jersey look like
VM1138 replied to spongebob is a wings fan's topic in General
I do like that reversed WC jersey. I'd be cool with that, the first Winter Classic Jersey, the striped jersey, or the old fashioned Winged wheel. I kind of think it should reflect the glory days of the Toronto-Detroit rivalry (thus the smaller Winged wheel jersey), but that reversed WC jersey looks too awesome to pass up. -
Hasn't Selanne gone on record saying he hates the Wings?
-
Things won't start happening until the week of the trade deadline, most likely.
-
I want to see the old-school small winged wheel for the Wings. Those were what they wore during the glory days of the Toronto-Detroit rivalry.
