Yeah, this is what I want. As much as I hate the Williams signing, he will work best on that third line. Also, I have no confidence in Homer, so Im still hoping for another addition at the deadline for a top 6 forward.

Ken Holland about next years roster and williams

Ill try to explain. I say : I still am in shock over this piece of sh!t signing. You say: Go find another team to root for. No True Scotsman fallacy. Just because I am not in favor of every move the organization makes doesnt mean I am not a true fan. http://www.logicalfallacies.info/presumpti...-true-scotsman/ I say: I am still in shock over this piece of sh!t signing. You say: Clearly this one has inept management. It can be perceived as irrelevant conclusion, but this probably best fits the composition fallacy. Basically you took what I said out of context. Just because I think that management made one bad terrible signing, doesnt mean I think it's inept as a whole. http://www.logicalfallacies.info/relevance/composition/ Basic Logic 101. Sorry for that but you did ask me to elaborate. -

There are actually many errors in reasoning in your post. No True Scotsman fallacy, fallacy to irrelevant conclusion to name a few. -

Why did we have to sign him though? If we merely want offense and dont care about him defensive liability, floater, wont touch anyone to save his mothers life, then why didnt we just let that Jeremy Williams kid play that we brought in from Toronto? -

I cant believe this. I swear, everytime we played Chicago or Columbus I would be like they cant be that good if they have a roster spot available for Jason Williams. Right when we lose my two least favorite Red Wings (Samuelsson, Hudler), we bring someone in I actually hate more than them. FML -
Am I the only one that doesnt see Prospal as the right fit? I just dont see him as a "Red Wing." To me, he's a Ray Whitney, Robert Lang type that just wont work here. JMO

Im a big proponent of having them together. However, I didnt mind splitting them against Pittsburgh. Its good to put one on Malkin and one on Crosby, which worked in the SCFs. It wasnt Malkin or Crosby that beat us.

Hahaha What value is that? It was painful watching Homer play last season and playoffs. I wish LGWers could take off there Red colored goggles every once in a while. Its not a bad thing to realize when a fan favorite is cooked. I had to deal with these kind of posts about Darren McCarty for like two years.

This line would be an upgrade over the Sammy-Hudler line. Even if they dont score as many points. With Helmer and Clears out there, theyd be much tougher to play against which to me, for a third and forth line, is more important.
-
Please. Moving forward, You saying Homer is still a top 6 forward will be more of a bizzare statement than him being a 13th forward. If not for the loyalty this organization shows its players, Homer wouldnt even be on the team let alone the thirteenth forward.
-
What exactly did he do last season that merits him being in the top 12? Based off of what I watched, he is a flat out liability. He's no longer the Tomas Holmstrom of old. I sure as heck dont want him on the ice during the playoffs.

If Im splitting up Z and Dats, Im putting Z with Franzen and Cleary. They were awesome in the playoffs. Filppula-Datsyuk- Homer Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Leino-Helm-Eaves Maltby-Draper-Grier To me, if we cant steal Zherdev for a reasonable cap hit, Im waiting until the deadline to add another top six forward. Sign Greir now so we can keep Abby in GR. Come playoff time we should replace Maltby with abby and make a move for a top six guy. Playoff lines Filppula-Datsyuk- top six deadline addition Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Leino-Helm-Eaves Abdelkader-Draper-Grier Homer(13th forward, pp situations)

Im in total agreement with you and your sig... Sidenote: Is anyone else thanking god Zetterberg and Franzen werent free agents a year after Samuelsson and Hudler? IMO if we had to lose anyone from our core, Sammy and Huddles were the two ideal peaces of this puzzle to lose. The Wings lucked out.
-
I actually agree with the guy. Samuelsson and Hudler really arent big losses. They are merely system players that were productive on our third line. To me, the third line was exposed in the SCF. I have no problem making the 3rd line more defensively responsible. It seemed to me that whenever Sammy or Hudler werent in the lineup for whatever reason, the team didnt miss a beat. We are now going to be a tougher team to play against and theres no doubt about that.
-
very intriguing. doubt it works out for us though. Only way is if no team steps up to pay him and he price tag comes down to around 3 million. Then, I could see it happening being that he has expressed his desire to play in the D.

I love this signing for two reasons.. 1) Eaves is the type of player that could thrive playing for the Red Wings. Definitely could be yet another diamond in the rough signing. 2) I dont have to see Jason Williams in a Red Wings uniform. The thought of that still makes me want to puke. My forward lines.. ZDH Franzen-Flip-Leino Cleary-Helm-Eaves Abdelkader-Draper-Maltby Id honestly roll with these lines for now and wait for the deadline so that we will be able to add a higher quality forward (salary cap) if needed. I might look for a cheap veteran grinder type now or later to eventually replace Maltby for the playoffs (I realize the Wings sitting Maltby is unlikely, however its what Id do). Id also look for a higher quality player to put onto the top two lines so that we can sit Homer for the playoffs. (I know sitting Homer for the playoffs is unlikely, however it is what I would do).

Over the past couple months alot of us Wing fans have ragged on aging veterans like Homer, Maltby, and Draper. I agree that Holmstrom and Maltby have completely lost it and probably shouldnt be on the team at all, but should Drapes really be talked about like those two? Am I the only one that still likes what he brings to the table? I'll agree that his cap hit is higher than it should be, but I think Draper is still a good 4th line player for us. He is still one of the better faceoff guys in the league, he still has above average speed, and still is a solid defensive forward. Am I wrong to say this?
-
Totally Agree. I dont know how more people dont see this. Not to mention Samuelsson, Hudler, and Kopecky showed us a bunch of loyalty. Dont forget about former star players Shanahan, and Fedorov showing us loyalty.
-
I could see us signing a grinder type for the forth line with a cap hit of no more than 1 mil. Other than that, I agree. Let's wait for the deadline.
-
I agree with manoir. It is definitely a weakness. Im not saying we would have won the cup if Abdelkader had been left in over Maltby, but it did make us a worse team as we werent putting out the best possible roster.

Being a kid isnt an excuse for disrespecting one of the classiest players to ever lace up the skates.

I really dont think the Wings need to do anything drastic. My Ideal off-season would be just to sign a bottom six forward to a two-year contract with a cap hit around 1 million. This way we still have a nice core and we dont blow our load and are set up nicely going into next season with room to make splash if we so choose. Pavel Datsyuk ($6.7m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.1m) / Johan Franzen ($4.0m)/ Valtteri Filppula ($3.0m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.8m)/ * Darren Helm ($1.2m) / Ville Leino ($0.8m) * Justin Abdelkader ($1.0m)/ Kris Draper ($1.6m) / *Mike Grier ($1.0m) DEFENSEMEN Brian Rafalaski ($6.0m) / * Nicklas Lidstrom ($4.0m) Brad Stuart ($3.8m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.0m) Jonathan Ericsson ($0.9m) / * #6 Dman ($0.8m) * #7 Dman ($0.6m) GOALTENDERS Chris Osgood ($1.4m) / Jimmy Howard ($0.7m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS ROSTER: 19; PAYROLL: $49.305m; CAP ROOM: $7.495m This gives us options. Our bottom six forwards and top 5 dmen are set, as well as our goaltending (hopefully). We could move Cleary up to the 2nd line and pick up another third liner if we choose. Cleary is capable. Or we could keep him on the third line and use 7 million towards signing two top six forwards. By the way, I gave Helm and Abby raises since they are RFAs

I think Kelly is a very nice two way player, but as ussr mentioned, I dont know about paying over 2 million for a bottom 6 forward.
