I agree with you. I just cant see the wings turning Chelli down if he has interest in returning. If he walks though, this issue may work itself out.
-
Will there be room for him on our roster next season or will he spend a year in GR? discuss.
-
I dont know how many of you remember when these three were together on the Avs, but when they were some people touted the Avs as possibly the best defense ever. My question is, how does our current defense compare? Lidstrom is better than any of those three. Id say Rafalski is better than Bourque was at that point in his career. Kronwall has been playing very solid. Stuart i feel is very underrated.
-
answered my own question, sorry for the post. If you add in the OTL 12 teams would be under .500, and 2 dead even.
-
I was looking at the current standings a minute ago and i found myself intrigued after finding out only four teams are under .500. How is it frigging possible that 26 teams are over .500, and only 4 are under? Looking at the current NBA standings: 14 teams under .500 final MLB standings from last season: 14 teams under .500 final NFL standings from last season: 15 teams under .500 I know it has something to do with the overtime loss, but it's still seems ridiculous to me.

I feel like we have to make room for Ericcson next season. He is one of our highly regarded prospects and is 24 years old. It's now or never time for him. Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Chelios, Ericcson, Liljia is my prediction for the top 7 dmen..
-
Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall- Stuart Chelios I think this is pretty much written in stone. Stuart is a perfect fit as Kronwall's partner. I think he is a more important resign than we think. As for the 5-6-7 defensemen, we are in a good spot. Meech, Quincey, and Ericsson have all showed they are deserving. This may mean Lebda could be the odd man out, Liljia too.

how could anyone enjoy that. i just vomited in my mouth.

For those of you wings fans that are sour at Holland for not acquiring these guys, please realize that Holland probably tried his hardest. In Hossa's case, look at what Pittsburgh had to give up. Angelo Esposito, 1st rd pick, and Colby Armstrong. Esposito is a legit prospect, Detroit doest have a legit prospect. I guarantee you guys Holland inquired about Hossa, but lets be real, Detroit didnt have the enough chips to put into play. In Brad Richards case, please realize that this guy makes 8 mil a year for the next 3 seasons. Also realize that we have to resign Henrik Zetterberg. Dallas got a hell of a deal, but we simply can not afford Richards contract. Would I have liked to add secondary scoring? Yes. But, we have to realize the players worth acquiring just weren't possible.

Bertuzzi/Lang < addition by subtraction

I have heard some rumors surrounding Jovo and the wings. However, realistically if we were to trade for him we would have him for the duration of his contract and its important to note that we can not possibly afford to have his 7 mil salary along with Lidstrom, Rafalski, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg. Where are these rumors coming from?
-
Obviously, the main difference between the 06/07 team and the 07/08 team is the superb play of Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk. But is it possible that we are better because we lost Robert Lang, Kyle Calder/Jason Williams, and Danny Markov? All of those players received a decent amount of ice time and were basically dead weight. Without them, guys like Jiri Hudler, Valterri Filpulla, Johan Franzen, and Dan Cleary have received more ice time and have thrived.

just a question for you guys. i try to browse through this thread during the game and i find it absolutely impossible to follow the game and read all your posts at the same time. how the heck are some of you so quick posting events in the game while watching it at the same time??
-
I just don't think any of those players fit in with our style of play. Danny Markov wasn't that good of a player and i think we are better off without him.
-
I just wanted to kind of vent now while we are winning, as opposed to posting after a few losses like everyone does. just a few observations.. To me we have at least 2 solid players on each forward line. Obviously the first line is perfect. Filppula and Hudler make a good start to that 2nd line. I do think we NEED another second line forward for the playoffs. Samuelsson cant play up there, he is garbage. 3rd line- Cleary, Franzen, Kopecky is fine 4th line - Maltby, Draper, Drake is fine, although Drake appears to be sooooooo slow out there. defense is fine. Rafalski is mcuh better than schneider. Lidstrom is as good as ever. I am satisfied with how Kronwall, Lebda, and Chelios are playing. Could use another defenseman but i wont be too picky. Goaltending- I cant figure out why we are playing Hasek. It appears as if Hasek's tank is on E. He has nothing left and i dont think he can lead us into the playoffs. Osgood has never looked better. Ride him.

Interesting Question.. If Jiri Fischer doesnt have health issues do we have Brian Rafalski ? Just makes you wonder how things would have worked out.
-
ok willieh, Wayne Gretzky may have not been the best "all-around" in the game. However, if i am picking one player that had the most impact on each and every game, then he is my pick. Some people rag on Gretzky for not being aggressive, or being lackadaisical in his own end but my god was he unstoppable.
-
this is probably the only logical post in this whole thread.
-
well the salary issue is what i was referring to. Jiri was really coming into his own and probably would have received a substantial contract which would have made it harder to pursue Rafalski. Additionally we wouldnt have been desperate for a #2 defensemen as Jiri Fischer would have had that roll filled. Our D could quite possibly be Nick, Jiri, Kronwall, Lebda, Chelios, Quincy, Lilja.

As we stand, if we keep the roster the way it is, we would definitely be a good team. Winning the central division is a lock. A number 1 in the west is a probably going to happen, and we also are probably going to win a playoff series again. But people are underestimating the impact Todd Bertuzzi would have had this season and in the playoffs. Im assuming he played at 60% during his time as a Red Wing. Also, he hasnt skated much in the past 3 years; suspension, lockout, injury. With a full offseason, training camp, Bertuzzi will be a top tier player in this league and we coulda had a bargain. Instead Anaheim gets him and is even better. In order to stick with Anaheim in the playoffs we are going to need to be able to score more goals. They already have better goaltending, they can match us on defense, and whats more, offense is arguably their strength. Bertuzzi McDonald Perry Getzlaf Kunitz Penner All of which are big, phyisical, talented hockey players who are capable of scoring 25 plus goals. All we have is Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Holmstrom. And Holmstrom is one dimensional, those players are not. Furthermore, Bertuzzi was a gamble, but if it had panned out he was a player that would have put us over the top to have a GREAT chance of winning the cup. He was a perfect fit and we blew it. Now that he's lost, we should gamble with Peter Forsberg. Because again, when healthy he has the talent to be an elite player in this league, and we need an elite player to contend with Anaheim. If Forsberg does get hurt. Then whatever, we wouldnt have won without him anyways. It's the same gamble baseball teams make when trading their prospects at the deadline.
-
Id definitley be willing to take a gamble on Forsberg. If he pans out he would be far better and less pricey than anyone we could aquire at the deadline. Not online would he be a perfect 2nd line center but i believe he would make Filpulla, Samuelson, Grigorenko better and make the 2nd line a force. Homer-Dats-Zetterberg - cant complain, the line has proven to click Filpulla-Forsberg-Samuelsson- Don't like samuelsson but i think he could excel with forsberg, maybe a little Swedish connection. Cleary-Franzen-Grigorenko - Cleary was the best player we had in the playoffs, i thought Franzen grew alot as a player. I dont think Grigs is ready to be a top 6 forward just yet, maybe he can jump along with Filp, and Forsberg towards the end. Maltby- Draper- Drake - as good of a 4th line you can get, although they are aging.

eva unit zero, 1. Niedermayer isnt officially retired yet, he could be back. 2. Bertuzzi is head and shoulders above Selanne. I dont know why the posters on this board are all over Selanne. He is such a soft player, and performs below average in the playoffs. He only did something when Lillypads gave him the series on a platter. The debate goes back to the argument of Williams/Calder. Calder is hader to play against, as is Bertuzzi. Sure Selanne is a pretty player but easy to play against. Detroit fans are clinging to this back injury thing of bertuzzis only because its the only thing they can say to reasure themselves the wings are better off without him. however, we should be the last ones be prejiduce of injuries. EX Maggs, Pudge, McDyess. Afterall, it is not like bertuzzi is injury proned, the back thing was his only real injury. 2. Pronger, Schneider, Beauchamin. is closer to Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall than our forwards are to there offense.

I have no problem with someone disagreeing with me. However, i do have a problem with someone questioning my fan hood for the sole reason that i do not believe my team islegitimate stanley cup contenders as of right now. I dont think the Lions are going to win the Super Bowl this year. Additionally, i can not stand Matt Millen, and believe he should have been four seasons ago. But this doesnt mean i will root for a rival. Get the picture?

ahhh, you gotta love the typical LGW response to a topic. You people, not saying all, have to realize that everyone on here has their own opinion. Mine is that i dont think the wings are strong enough to win the SC with their current roster. That does not mean i am not a fan or am still not going to watch. It's just a honest, realistic, non-biased opinion. Crymson, if you think we can win with our current roster, which has even less toughness than one season ago, god bless your heart.
