Phaneuf is already one of my least favorite players.... and he really hasn't even done much to a Wing yet.... so it's pretty unbias hatred for the man.

It's actually a trick to motivate Svatos before the tournament starts

Even beyond their top line they have some damn good players, albeit in differing spots in their careers... but Demitra, Meszaros, Satan, Handzus, Visnovsky, Halak, Budaj... all solid players. Also, Palffy was a stud in the NHL... if he still has that offensive ability, this could be a solid squad... I think they got a better offense than the US roster, tho the US has better goaltending/defense for sure..

yeah, it was just a 1 yr extension... no terms were disclosed.. not sure why it wasn't longer, maybe he wants to wait to see how things pan out in the NHL and KHL in terms of salaries.. maybe the Caps expect to have more cap room in 11-12... not sure. -

Who is the best goalie of the modern era?
RedWings Gone Wild replied to Yzerman191's topic in General
I'd say that easy saves benefited Marty over any other goalie in the discussion... for years his entire team was built around ensuring nothing but perimeter low-percentage shots. His durability is his soundest asset over Hasek or Roy, but to me, that is hardly enough to warrant placing him at their level. Yes, Hasek's out of the net play was poor, but honestly, I can recall next to no instances where the puck actually wound up in the back of the net because of it... he was a gambler at times, but he knew the odds and usually wound up on top. -

Plus, with the occasional chair thrown to the ice, there will actually be some Wings related highlights worth cheering about. -

Amen... and contrary to the popular belief I've been hearing, Lids isn't shooting less... he's got 87 shots so far, and he's had around 180 the past two seasons... they just aren't going in like they used to. -

He let in two goals in each game against Was and Chi... not 1. He also got lit up badly by Buffalo right after those games.... bad start. Also, what you meant to say was he SPLIT time with Hasek in 07-08.. in 05-06 he was relief for Manny. in 06-07 he was relief for Hasek... and he did both admirably with little need for a plethora of games to gain consistency. I fail to see why he's all of a sudden a rhythm goaltender like Kipper. Never has been, never will be, and the few recent starts is hardly an excuse for someone who, as you said, has such a glorious resume.... Decide, is he an average goalie or a champ? If he's a champ then I'm going to treat him with the high expectations that title denotes (and expect him to come up big for a team in desperate need of a hero).. if not, then accolades are hardly worth mentioning and I'll in turn expect little of him. Now, I never denied his accomplishments, nor do i dislike the man like many... but his lows are very low. That's about all that was being said. -

How do you explain his start to the season.... or all of last season?... He's off when he's starting every game, and he's off when he's starting sporadically (which is actually a change... it used to be an asset of his that he could come in and play well with the occasional games... like when we had Hasek). Osgood has always struck me as a severely emotionally weak goalie (like Legacy.. tho not as extreme). His lows are really low and his highs are really high... if the consistency was there he'd be a hall of famer.. but alas. -
uh, last I checked we were doing very well defensively, and not finding the back of the net... well... EVER. Kinda got it backwards there, this isn't 2008.

it isn't just ozzies soft goals... it's that he always seems to find the most inopportune times for them. -

stupid goal.. -
That wouldn't quite pry him away from the jackets, but, as opposed to what others are saying, i dont see it as unlikely that the jackets would trade Filatov. It wouldn't actually surprise me that much if it happened because he has expressed numerous times his unhappiness in the franchise, and there are clear issues between him n Hitchcock.

This. Most of our good players are either to old or signed really long term. It would be pretty short-sighted to trade guys signed for years to come (zett/Franzen/Dats/flip) for a guy who isn't guaranteed to stick around. If it was a sign and trade it would be a different story. Kovalchuk is one of my favorite players, and a guy like him would turn this team around (since he can create offense for himself and others, and is a monster finisher). but the reality of the cap situation makes it pretty improbable.
