So, yahoo has been doing lists of the top ten "insert whatever" of the past decade for pretty much every sport. Now, they are doing the tops of the tops and comparing every sport out there. We now have the chance to vote for who we think is the best athlete, team, game, etc.. of the decade, regardless of the sport. The Wings are represented twice. They are nominated for the best team of the decade (01-02) and Lidstrom is nominated for best player of the decade (some stiff competition with guys like Zidane, Phelps, etc... on the list). So, if you guys have any interest in seeing the Wings represented amongst the decades best, below are the links... vote! Team of the decade Player of the decade Also, the Pens beating the Wings in game 5 from the year before last is an option for best game of the decade... yeah, even tho they didn't win the series. If you want to vote for that, the link follows. Game of the decade

It's pretty difficult to put Lidstrom above a lot of the guys on that list, but I do think the 01-02 squad has some legitimacy as tops of the decade.. Consider the number of hall of famers on the squad, how many tops in hockey history were on the team (some of the top Dmen all time, one of the game's greatest goalies ever, the game's greatest captain, 3 teammates from it inducted into the HOF in one year, etc etc etc).

Neither, if Miller has an iota of his brother's netminding abilities, I say put him in net!
-
Ahhh, brings back memories.

And Lidstrom is -1.... I always knew I'd be around for the end of the world.

I've been impressed with Howard of late... if he begins controlling rebounds better, he could be a very strong netminder. Also, as bad as Leino's been (statistically), I feel like he's really due for a few points soon, he's been setting up some amazing plays. -

Probably should have used him before cleary... because, well, he's awful in them. -

The Draper comparisons are really just way to obvious. -

yea, they have been absolutely horrendous. Not to mention, they seem to act like every blues shot is as quality a chance as a breakaway or something. -

what I wouldn't give for a couple games without letting in any PP goals. -

someone needs to tell Bertuzzi that goal posts don't win games. -
The games we've been losing have just been brutally frustrating because it's like watching a bunch of grown men struggle valiantly to walk through a brick wall. Once those pucks start going in with a higher frequency, I think you're going to see the spirits rise considerably. It isn't losing that's frustrating, it's losing those games we should be winning.... so yeah, I agree with the post completely, and I really think this is a solid team... but then again, lessening the expectations, thereby lessening the pressure to perform, has never hurt this club in the past... So, the optimism in me (what little of it there is) is telling me that this will be one of the first times in a long time the Wings will be in the playoffs, not as a heavy favorite, and many past Wings teams have found it hard to play with the tag of top contender, so maybe the inverse is possible. I welcome the rest of the NHL underestimating the Wings.

watching the sportsnet feed... these announcers are douches.
-
i swear, we can turn any goalie into a vezina candidate in a single night tho... it's just dreadful.
-
Blasphemy!
-
our pp has looked so bad and been so ineffective over this stretch....
-
I don't think it's that we're losing, but the manner in which we r losing.
-
I would say that the most debated and heavily observed referee blunders have mostly come against Detroit of late, including the called off goals, the clean hits that have resulted in ejections... and Holmstrom alone gets more physically abused than any other player in the league, and yet draws next to no penalties.
-
it was an answer, and the answer was yes. Because it's his damn job to be ready for it.
-
the team moral just looks like it's at an all time low.
-
If my sole job in life was to take punches to the face, and my friend was roughing it up with a group of punks two millimeters from me, I'd be ready for a punch, regardless of where it came from.
-
unless there's a Calgary fan in here.... yes. Seems like night in and night out we're the better team and wind up trailing due to the dumbest of plays.
-
A good goalie is ready for one anyways. He looks like he has the worst five-hole in hockey.
