Williams out 8 weeks with fractured fibula
RedWings Gone Wild replied to Winged_Wheeler's topic in General
Guys I think are still free agents: Miroslav Satan, Shanny, Mike Peca, Bates Battaglia, Boyd Devereaux, Ol' D-Mac... So, the question is, how desperate are you feeling LGW posters? -

Just ridiculous how many injuries there are league wide right now.... -

You know, I'm not going to blame Ozzie for this loss at all, but the fact of it is we've been anti-goalie as Wings fans for a long time, and of all the goalies, Osgood's been treated near the best. I've seen many more Legacy and Hasek haters than Osgood haters.. about the only goalie who gets more "it was never his fault" fanaticism is Vernon.. It's the nature of the position, it invites scrutiny. -

What are you taking about? Helm was god awful tonight... Dats, Zet and Lids were the only guys who didn't contribute to the Leafs scoring tonight. -

I imagine that tandem of 100 year old hall of famers could have dressed and played a better game.... just damn pathetic. -

Our guys have looked pretty damn bad, but Gustavsson has also looked real sharp so far.... minus chasing Cleary out of the net... Should probably be a closer game than it is. -
wasn't saying he's good, or special, just that Washington did in fact want to resign him. If you read my previous posts I do think he is a weak link.

wow they are looking so disorganized out there... absolutely pathetic. -
Washington wanted to retain him badly, Chicago just outbid them. Theo was not their first choice.

I'd be in favor of an incentive based contract (like some of the Hasek ones)... but do doctor bills count against the cap now? -
Huet isn't as bad goalie as many imply, but the idea that Chicago is going to utilize the strategy Detroit used with Osgood last year and just hope he starts playing better is a little unrealistic. Osgood, unlike Huet, has a couple of things on his resume that give him the benefit of the doubt (You know, lots of wins, couple of cups, etc). Huet simply does not, and contrary to what you've said, Huet has NEVER been a difference maker beyond any normal NHL level goalie. He had a good finish to his season in Washington in 08, leading them into the playoffs and then choking, Chicago overpayed based on the hype that season's finish gave him, but he was average before and after that. I 100% guarantee you Huet would be gone if someone out there was dumb enough to take on his contract. Chicago will have a great offense, but anyone who's watched Red Wings or San Jose hockey over the years (or any number of hot shot offensive squads) can tell you offense tends to vanish in the playoffs for teams pressured by expectations and lacking the necessary playoff grit and muscle: for more details see Chicago and Hossa last year.

Maple Leafs in trouble with Ontario health ministry
RedWings Gone Wild replied to edicius's topic in General
Here's the thing.... Hockey players aren't going to die from it if they get sick. The elderly and children, who were leap frogged by the Raptors and Flames, are considerably likelier to succumb to the flu. By getting the vaccination early, the teams are ostensibly doing so to ensure that guys don't have to miss games, because the long-term ramifications of the illness are basically non-existent for someone who is healthy. It was a selfish decision. -
is this thread really still going? sheesh.

I always love posts like this..... I said not 1 single thing that you claimed I said. The idea that goalies aren't part of the team? never said. Did I ever say Osgood was a weak link in the playoffs? No, not once. Did I say the wings won't make the playoffs? No, not once. Did I ever once put all the blame Osgood for the losses? No, not once. Did I ever say our defense has nothing to do with the problem? No, not once. "Your theory is if the wings miss the playoffs, it's Osgood fault"..... please, please please please... where the F did I say anything remotely resembling that? Good god, get the hell off of a blog if you can't read. I'll paraphrase what I said with really small words so you can comprehend it: 1. Osgood can't suck through the regular season like last year. We are no longer a team that can win despite a 3.00 GAA. That's pretty clear English buddy, not sure where all your other idiotic rambling came from. 2. He has been sub par thus far. Period. He's turned it around the last 2 games, been better tonight, but his consistency is still in question after last season and this season's start. 3. You criticizing Nabokov is a joke, because the blame has ALWAYS rested on the shoulders of San Jose's no-show offense. Everything else you mentioned is pure nonsense, and the idea that you question my "credibility" and then try and argue a series of points I NEVER EVER ONCE MADE... Well, let's just say I'm biting my tongue and giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you're just being a decent person who made some comprehension mistakes.... but seriously man, I've never seen such an unrelated response to one of my posts before.

Actually, if you look closely, it was the inertia of the puck flying towards the net in an elliptical motion, coupled with Fluery blowing as hard as he could in the direction of the puck, that it actually came to a halt millimeters in front of Crosby.. but NHL.com didn't bother to look into the story and just thought it would be easier and more marketable to claim Crosby stopped it.

Wait wait wait wait.... let me get this straight... people aren't willing to pay to see the all-star combo of Gordon and Villaneuva reenact the shot selection of the Stackhouse era pistons? Shocking!
-
offensively Lids has always been a pretty slow starter. I would be surprised if he finished lower than 45-50 points.

It always baffles me when Ovie haters surface in Western conference supporters.. If he's beating your team consistently, then, well, I can see where the animosity would develop. Or, if you're a "traditionalist" that opposes the showing of emotion on the ice, that is, unless it's North American emotion... but if your logic is on the basis that someone can get lucky enough to consistently lead or be near the top of the league in points, goals, and shots... then I would implore you, even if you're of the traditionalist persuasion, to consider how immensely important Ovechkin is to the league's future... No, I don't think he's gods gift to the ice, and I entirely believe that Datsyuk and Zetterberg should be considered in his league on the merits of their defensive ability, but Ovie is simply the only.. I repeat.. ONLY star this game has with any mainstream crossover potential. No one else puts up the numbers, while simultaneously having the team success and entertaining personality. Crosby is as dull as a box of tampons, just looking at Malkin makes me want to nap, Joe Thornton is to clutch as Fox is to news, Kane beats up cabbies, Toews is boring as hell on offense, and who else is there? Kopitar? Eric Staal? Stamkos? The only legitimate shot the NHL has at someone with mainstream appeal who can generate the production and personality to captivate is Ovechkin. If you have any vested interest in the NHL continuing to grow, you should hope for the best with Ovechkin.. especially since the Wings don't have to play him often.
-
Have no fear Crosby haters, the NHL is already abundantly aware of the fact that Ovechkin is a vastly superior marketing tool than Crosby. You know, considering he actually has a personality and is far more likely to produce something highlight worthy on a game by game basis than Crosby (this isn't a comparison of skill, just of marketability). The second Ovie wins a cup, Crosby will be playing second fiddle for the rest of his career (barring a major Pens dynasty.. which I consider quite unlikely). Now, if you hate both of them, you might as well just stop watching hockey... or start praying Kopitar becomes decipherable and the Kings begin winning cups.
