Is anyone watching the Caps and Pens

That's an awfully stupid comparison if you're implying that Crosby should/can be compared to Yzeman, and that Ovechkin is as one-dimensional as Hull.

Then by that standard the morons from The Hills and Jersey Shore are some of the gutsiest people alive.

Cherry ripping Lidstrom on Coach's Corner

Cherry uses hockey as a means to perpetuate stereotypes, and considering how irrational and hypocritical his viewpoints are, xenophobia is the easy solution to point to. Is it the right one? I don't know the guy, so I couldn't say.. But he has always had clear favoritism for English speaking Canadians and has had a longstanding habit of trying to demean foreign players... like when he called Fetisov a cheap and dirty player (something he's never said about Pronger or Dion, players far more deserving of the criticism). He called out Ovechkin for showboating... something he's never done to a Canadian exhibiting the same tendencies (Green anyone?). He's called out countless Euros for soft playoff play... but what about Thornton, or any of the many many Canadian choke artists? He said people who wear visors (Euros and Frenchies as he called em) have less respect for opponents (and a study later proved that people with visors actually high stick opponents far less). Cherry is blatantly bias. When a guy like Mike Richards throws a cheap shot Cherry retorts with "well, oh son, my favorite boy, try not to do that or you'll hurt yourself." but when Malkin throws the body it's " OH, he's got no respect, he's a cancer, he's evidence of the lack of character in the league." It's a joke, the guy could have xenophobe written on his forehead and sentimentalists like you would still give the guy a pass.

Couple of things....... Cherry doesn't have "balls", he has a set dogma he preaches, with no fluctuation or adjustment for reality, which generally means he's an entertainer and not a legitimate voice of opinion, or that voice would probably learn and adapt like everything "living" does. In the real world, individuals adjust and compensate for changes in times/facts and when their theories are blatantly disproved they go back to the drawing board. Cherry fans tune in to Cherry because they know exactly what they'll hear; and what they hear is tantamount to a big nationalistic handjob. Just the kind of simplistic nationalism that makes unintelligent people afraid of change; be that in the presence of rule changes, foreigners, or whatever else. I have no problem with Cherry's existence... he serves a subset of the population that needs that sort of thing... but don't start acting like he's courageous for having the balls to speak up for Canada...in Canada? All he does is talk about how great Canadians are to an audience full of Canadians for a half hour a week... OMG, how ballsy! I'd be impress if he was on Russian TV talking about how great Canadian players are... but get real man, his words are as cheap as his suits.

Nah, only reason he was nominated last year was because he was the first D-man to get to 30 goals in forever. I think the league has gotten over the hype of those goals and realizes that he is still pretty inept on the other side of the ice...hence why he's not playing for Canada.

Sok, I did a few double takes when I looked it up, because you're usually spot on with your hockey knowledge.

No he doesn't. He has 1 (75-76), and Bowman has 2 (76-77, 95-96)... but Bowman doesn't have more because he always had good teams (except in Buffalo), and they usually only give the award to overachieving coaches.... hence why only 3 coaches have won cups the year they won the Jack Adams award (Bowman being one of those coaches).

Always with the nostalgia with you... This team has always been an underachiever, ESPECIALLY during the Yzerman days... hence why we have more presidents trophies than cups (during the Yzerman era of course... not all time). There is no hockey player I respect more than Yzerman, but our "veteran leadership" has led to numerous first round exits and disappointments. This is the first post-Yzerman year that we can really look at the Wings and say they've underachieved, and the season still isn't over.

Tollefsen blows away anything Cherry ever did as a defensemen.. the guy played 1 game in the NHL.

Don Cherry's a moron.... nothing else really needs to be said.... he played 1 game in the NHL as a player, and never won a cup as a coach... why people think he has any special insight into the game is beyond me, he just has a hard on for big English speaking Canadian boys..

This franchise, up to and including the present team, has gone above and beyond any other franchise in being loyal to their players. Consider that on a stacked team we made space for a completely useless McCartey just because he's an ex-Wing (made useless because we had Drake, making DMac redundant). Consider that we allowed Cheli to remain on the roster until he was the 2nd oldest player in NHL history, and basically became uselessly slow out there... Consider that we've recently signed two players to lifelong deals and that we've kept Maltby, despite his major declines in offensive and defensive productivity. Consider that we've consistently been the oldest team in the league for two decades... that if you remember the cup finals against the Devils, they were calling our team too old EVEN THEN... and we've repeatedly allowed guys to remain as big parts of our lineup well into their 40s, and still do despite a league-wide move towards speed and youth. Your evidence is stuff that I have never seen on blogs, or implied in the press, and your one shred of confirmable evidence is something that moron Roenick said? .....

Your posts are usually full of misty-eyed delusions with evidence that no one outside of the Wings locker room could know, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this tirade. However, there is a fatal flaw in your logic... namely: Holmstrom, Draper, Maltby. Not a one of those guys is here based upon what they have "done lately." Not to mention, this team has consistently rewarded player loyalty with lifelong or longterm contracts to good players (see: Franzen, Hank, Dats). It would hardly make sense to hand out 10+ year contracts if the logic was "what'd you do recently?" You're an Osgood fanatic, which is quite clear, and you are trying to mask your frustration with his lot on the team by making some ridiculous team-wide insinuations. Just me honest. You want him to play more; we all know it. Also, to imply that this is an organization that has gone from loyal to unloyal is pretty moronic too. If you'd recall, if it wasn't for the fan reactions to the rumors, Bowman would have traded Yzerman long before Babcock had the chance to "force him out", as you so bizarrely claim. Bowman and this organization was hardly a sentimental, and the decisions to keep the guys they kept were pretty easy choices to make... nobody had hit a significant decline until Bowman was gone. And, Bowman wouldn't be dumb enough to use a 47 year old Cheli, and a washed up Shanny.... if he was so loyal to them, he could have signed them in Chicago for the veteran leadership. So much for that theory.

Agreed, our top line played very well tonight, the problem doesn't rest there... someone needs to tell Stuart to step up to the damn plate.

If you were reading you would see the post said "in terms of our defending/motivation/fluidity/chemistry/special teams play (specially PK)"... which, yes, we were sloppy on defense last year, our motivation was hohum, our PK blew all season, and our chemistry was average... we simply had the offense to make up for it... in 08 we were a complete team, but we haven't been since.

2/6 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Kings 4

Well, we've been in a nosedive for the past 2 seasons in terms of our defending/motivation/fluidity/chemistry/special teams play (specially PK)... and that's all a potential reflection of coaching or declining player quality.... and while the injuries have been brutal this year, this is still largely the same team that won the presidents trophy and cup in 08 with the least number of goals allowed that season... it's bizarre to me that the makeup of the team has changed so little, and yet the product on the ice is so atrocious.

I can't really recall a time when they didn't leave the ice without conceding a goal first... Ericsson's mental vacation seemed to do the trick... maybe stuart needs one too..

I like Stuart, I'm just a little tired of hearing how great he plays day in and day out by LGWers... He's rarely as solid/physical as people try to make him out to be.

I'm going to retain that period of play in my mind for any time someone tries to tell me Stuart has been our best defenseman this season.... absolutely not true.. and he's now looking at -14 on the season, after a paltry -3 last season on the league's best offensive team.
