Two thoughts on the game so far: 1. Meech has 2 assists... (translation: when Kronwall's back, you're fired Lebda!) 2. Thank you Tampa Bay for having such a dumb front office. -
I think it's possible to sign Kovalchuck this off-season

Fedorov part deuce? so, 3 cups, an mvp, 2 selkes, and 900+ points in a Wings uni?... Sounds like a crap deal to me too! -
Lidstrom,Holmstrom,Draper,Maltby
RedWings Gone Wild replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
The only thing I've heard about any of them is that Lidstrom said he won't decide his future until the offseason, and that it's either Detroit or retirement. -
You've basically given a poor evaluation of the circumstances. Ovechkin wasn't pushed as much as Crosby... sure.. that's right, but what's that got to do with it beyond initial press and speculation? Nothing. The argument is who is the face NOW, and that is Ovechkin. Crosby lost that war because quite frankly, he is boring off the ice: and to a casual fan/never seen the game kind of fan, he's even boring on the ice. Ovechkin is getting the commercials now, and he's getting the press. That's why Ovechkin signed a deal with the top Marketing company on the planet IMG (same company that has Kobe, Tiger Woods, etc). To quote a Puck Daddy article on it: You want more on it click here
-
Flat out, irrevocably wrong. Completely wrong. At this point, every one within the hockey circles has awoken to Ovie being the more marketable of the two, and it's simply the truth. Ovechkin is the one of the two that's on sportcenter regularly, he's the one with the exuberance, the personality that draws fans. Why is the NBA more popular than the NHL? Jordan, Bird, Magic. And each one of them had Ovie's kind of personality. Crosby has zero personality, which is why he simply isn't nearly as marketable. He has yet to have a SINGLE memorable quote or celebrity-affirming moment off the ice, and he looks like a deer in the headlights in front of cameras and during public events. He looked as dumb as Dukakis in his stupid militarized homecoming parade with the cup over the summer. This is all why Ovechkin, and NOT Crosby, is the one with mega marketing contract, why he was the first NHLer to get a huge bio on ESPN, and why he's the face of the league until he loses it (by under performing, not winning a cup, or doing more stupid knee to knees).
-
I think it's within reason, but only if the US national team starts doing something in major tournaments. You can see a direct correlation between how popular a sport is, and how dominated it is by Americans (notice the NBA's popularity dipping with the increase in Euros, and MLBs domination with S. Americans.... it took super-juiced mega-hitters to make Americans remember baseball).
-
Well, there's a reason he kept his mask on
-
....if Kronwall's return doesn't signal the end of Lebda as a Wing, I don't know what will..
-
You know your stock has tumbled when even the Canadiens don't want you.... and they freaking bent over and let Sergei Kostitsyn back onto the lineup....

Guess who has the most power play opportunities?
RedWings Gone Wild replied to RedSea's topic in General
Then the Caps should be leading the pack by a mile. Caps skill > pens skill by a mile. Pens simply have the bottom line grit that shows through, but overall skill isn't their strongest point (even Crosby's game is largely based on grit and smarts, not as much raw talent like Malkin or Ovie). -
I've been very happy with big bert so far. We didn't bring him in here to be a top liner, but so far he's filled that role to the best of his abilities. His penalties are a BIG problem though, and, psychologically, he is noticeably weak. I'm particularly concerned about how he will play come playoffs.. is he mentally tough enough to stay out there, be productive, and play smart (i.e. no penalties or terrible giveaways)? If he can do that, I'd be happy to have him retire a Wing.
-
Most of the blame is being directed at Bert from what I've seen... but you got to admit, Osgood's 5-hole is the most infuriating thing to watch... It's so painful to watch.
-
Yeah, thanks exclusively to Howard. We were owned by them in every sense but on the scoreboard.
-
on the plus side... Kipper is back to his old 5-6 goals a night self... and Phoenix has been sucking of late. Luckily I think the West will keep us in this race until we start looking like a team again. But seriously, why are we the only GD team in the west that doesn't own the east? Have you guys seen the West's record against the East... it's downright embarrassing.
-
******* embarrassing. Another moronic Bert penality... more beautiful Ozzy 5-holes paired with some sweet defense.. this team can't do a single damn thing right.

what I don't understand is this: On a number of occasions now, the Refs have gone to Toronto (ala the Brad May goal) with no intention of overturning their decision.... SO WHY THE f*** EVEN BOTHER WITH TORONTO? If, as people are saying on here, linesmen decided they saw something no1 else saw, then why did they waste 15 gd minutes reviewing it? To humor us? To make their decision seem more informed? It really doesn't make any sense to go to a review if it's not going to impact their decision anyways. -

Agreed. but that doesn't change the fact that this league continues, on an almost daily basis, to emphatically embarrass itself and alienate its fan base. It's got to stop. -

I feel like a masochist watching the NHL.... I love the Wings and hockey... but it's just getting harder and harder to justify watching this joke of a league. -

I'm sick of this league... at this point it's a ******* joke... I need to find another gd sport to watch -
Okay, so the Kings just scored a goal that was initially waved off, but then got called a goal anyways... Unfortunately, i doubt there is footage on Youtube yet (though within the hour there is sure to be).... needless to say, they overturned a "no goal" with virtually no conclusive evidence of a goal, which I think finally proves that the NHL is just over the deep end in craziness (and yes, that is a unit of measure). Not only are they calling the obvious goals no goal, but now they're calling inconclusive stuff goals?.... This league is as backwards as can be... I will say one thing... There is a possibility that there is an angle of the goal that has yet to be shown on yahoo... but it's still worth a laugh.
