the optimist in me says that the Hawks lost a few nights back by blowing a 4 goal lead in the 3rd... the pesimist in me reminds the optimist in me that 4 goals was our high of the month of December (thanks to empty netters). -

why do we have to do the crap where we show up against San Jose, but not the Islanders..... -
where the hell did this red wings team come from? How do you go from getting schooled by the LA kings to taking it to San Jose?....

.... Don Cherry is the Bill O'Reilly of hockey.... pandering blind patriotism sprinkled with absurd hypocrisy, all for the purpose of getting morons to tune in and keep the ratings high. The only thing honest about the man are his clown suits, it's a dumb act.

and all of a sudden Lids is on pace for around 40 points... not bad..
-
LIDS! YOU'RE ALIVE!!!
-
Stuart?
-
Calgary, Nashville, Vancouver, and LA were all at 51 points (before today)... so, while we are 5 points out of 8th, we are also 5 points out of 5th.

Watch out Gretzky, your records aren't safe!
-
PP revenge time.
-
.... on the plus side, the thrashers islanders game has been a ton of fun.
-

-
uh oh... 5on3?
-
that's 7 assists in 8 games for Lidstrom... Looking better and better.

Is Osgood your son or something? Your efforts to carry his torch passed excessive a while ago and has just become creepy.

Gotta admit, when we first got Babcock I was worried that he was riding into town on the back of a lucky hot streak in the playoffs with Anaheim the year before, and that, much like Giguere, time would prove that he was not that stellar.... but, back to back finals appearances shut me up... for now (insert sadistic laugh here)!

I agree with the point system, but you can't realistically put a playoff style OT system into place.. do you know how many additional games that would add up to over the course of a season? It's already a schedule and game play that is way to grueling on the players (just look at the #s of injuries league wide this season)... not to mention, back to back nights would basically be impossible. What if you went to triple or quadruple OT one night and had a game the following night? If ties aren't a part of the sport, then the shootout has to be.
-
I watch a ton of European soccer and that's basically how it's always structured (3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, 0 for a loss)... Your purists won't like it because it'll construe and inflate the point totals drastically (team point totals, not individual ones)... but ultimately if you're going to keep the shootout, I think it has to be changed... I see these teams with the shootout specialists that basically play for ties, and it distorts the standings. You can basically be pretty damn mediocre in the NHL right now and still hang around the playoff picture late into the season (*cough Anaheim cough*).

uhhhhhhhhhhhh...... Seriously? We're really comparing Devereaux's stinker of an NHL career to Leino? Something of note: DEVEREAUX WAS TAKEN 6TH OVERALL... and never scored more than 9 goals or 27 points (and he played full seasons to get to those impressive figures).... Boyd's career numbers: a stunning 0.28 ppg... even though Leino is struggling massively, he's STILL above that ppg total (0.32)..... I really don't know how a 6th overall bust who's career is over can be compared to an undrafted guy who's best years are ahead of him... come on....
