Obviously Lidstrom is still one of the best in the league. He has looked very easy to play against so far this season. The speed of the game seems to be forcing him to make quicker than normal decisions. The game always seemed to slow down whenever Lidstrom had the puck. I haven't seen that this year at even strength. I'm sure that will change.

This kid has way too much pressure on him to be all world for some reason. He's a friggin rookie. Leino is a rookie. No one is saying he has to be pavel Datsyuk or he's getting traded. Ericsson is a rookie. He's playing like crap but no one is wanting to trade him. All the pressure that's being thrust upon Howard is directly related to Osgood no being able to be the #1. If they wanted to have a goalie to be a 1A 1B with Osgood, they should have kept Conklin. They obviously thought they didn't need that. Maybe they were wrong. I don't know. To expect Howard to produce like a starter with 1/4 the starts is setting him up for failure. To talk about his few starts from previous years or his AHL at this point is worthless. We could apply the same silliness to Quincey or Erricsson and see it's relevance. What matters is now, today and beyond. Let's give him the same patience that people love to give Osgood. Let's give him a chance first.

This thread is funny. The only goalie to prove they can't play this year so far is Osgood. Now because he sucks, people want to throw away Howard before we know what he's capable of? The backup goaltender has to be worlds better than our starter to keep his job? Classic. Only in the wacky world of Red Wing's land. In this same crazy land somehow Halak is worth our entire farm system. You couldn't get more than a 2nd round pick for Halak, unless your dealing with Burke or Milbury. If Howard sucks after he's been allowed to get some games and get a feel for the NHL then I'd be on board with a trade. To make a trade right now would be idiotic. It might lead to another situation where a young player was moved before he could show what he's capable of.

About time. It's not make or break based on one game, that would be silly. Osgood is still looking for his game and look how many he's already played. They can't play Jimmy once a month and expect him to be stellar, but they know that.

Actually that was a reporter looking to make something out of nothing, which is exactly what he did.

He needs to use his size better. I hate when our defenders use that one arm around jamming the stick along the boards style. I call it the chicken wing defense, a la the Lilja. It's terrible. It's the main reason teams can keep us in our own zone once they start the cycle. Keep both hands on the stick and use your shoulder to check the guy against the board and separate him from the puck. The Canadian defenseman do this the best. I wish they would watch tape of this from other teams. You rarely see a player like Datsyuk with only one hand on the stick. He can come out of the corner with the puck most times. Keep two hands on the stick where they are needed and you will also take less cheap penalty's with the off arm, a la the Kronwall. Ericsson also need to simplify his game in his own end. With Bret "Headless chicken" Lebda as his partner.......good luck.
