Wow now it's a two yr deal? Quick someone tell Holland to go watch some games of his from last year. He doesn't have much left to give anymore. He certainly doesn't warrant pushing Helm down to the third 4th line. Helm would pot at least 15 goals this year with Hudler on his line IMO. At this point I'd be annoyed by the whole situation if I was Helm and Abdelkader. Those guys have put in their time. They deserve to get the spots and have an opportunity to excel just like Howard did. I hope this isn't what's holding up the contracts for those 2? They might start thinking they have to go to another team to get playing time. This whole Modano thing just doesn't make sense? We got enough bottom 6 guys, hell I'd even consider Homer and Bert bottom six guys when they're struggling. But we do have some questions marks on D. That just seems like the more pressing need than a faded former star player on his last legs.

It's definitely the right time for him. Hopefully he and Draper will enjoy their last season on the Wings. Who know's it could be Lidstroms last as well. Good luck in whatever is next.

And he never will if they keep signing washed up 40 yr olds to play in front of him. Hey I know lets sign Maltby and Chelios probably still wants to play I'm sure? we could sign him up again so we could lose Kindl on waivers. Makes total sense.

DETROIT has lost good players from bad decisions just like that. To think otherwise shows a real lack of understanding. Some of it was cap related, some was NOT! If Holland Signs Modano, it will mean losing a good young player (mistake). This has Chelios written all over it.

The entire league gets younger and faster, while we continue to sign every 40yr old that's up for free agency. WTF is going on here? Our you guys can play, just give them a f*cking chance. It must be really tiresome to be a bottom six guy in the Red Wings organization. You get to play every single possible yr in the minors. Get squeezed for every cent come contract time. Get replaced by a 40 yr old every other season. Then finally you realize, you must go somewhere else to get a chance to play.

Those lines are pretty good. I'd have Helm on the 3rd line and Abby centering the 4th though, since Helm is easily the better hockey player right now. Can't wait for the new season to begin, it feels like it's been forever since I watched a Wings game.

No thanks, he doesn't fill a need for this team. We already have a handful of 3rd liners. Some of whom are better than Modano at this point. Congrats on a great career mike.

NO THANKS! maltby had a great career for us, but it's time to move forward. Kenny needs to get used to the idea of letting the old guard go. Next season he'll need to do the same with Draper and Osgood. If we sign maltby, then we'll end up losing Ritola before we know what he is. It just wouldn't make any sense, kinda like signing Chelios that last season and losing "you know who". I really hope he doesn't sign anyone else. It would be nice to have some breathing room under the cap.

So Homer takes a discount and Bert gets a raise? It's not a big deal but the salary should have been lower for him to get that second year IMO.

Just like I suspected. He was never going to take less than Rafalski when he's a much better hockey player. That's why pay scale is so important in the cap world. Everybody want's to be paid accordingly with the locker room structure under the cap. You even heard Homers agent talking about this very thing. Awesome to have Nick back for another year. Now if we could just get Homer and Bertuzzi to take one year deals, we'd be golden.

That would be amazing to get assets for those two, but that's not going to happen. Just back from vacation IMO.

I'd rather overpay for a 1yr deal as opposed to a 3yr deal. Just remember the Draper deal how bad it looked, this would be worse.

Think of it this way. That was the consistency he played with in a contract year? What will his play look like when he's locked up for 2-3 years? Float city. We get to watch him fumble passes and get called for phantom penalty's? No thanks!

No point in discussion it further as you believe Osgood is a good goaltender right now and I DO NOT. A sub .900% goalie is not a good value at 1.5 sorry. From my point of view he could be easily replaced for 1.5 and you'd even get a much better performance for the money. Agree to disagree I suppose. No more of this nonsense after next season thankfully.

1. I already gave my opinion in the thread I said 10-15 games for Osgood. Unless we have a time machine. 2. Why the hell would we trade for goaltender? We only need a backup that can keep Jimmy fresh. Pick a UFA and be done. Obviously they'd have to trade, waive Osgood.

Blatant penalty, he just ran over the goalie. That's a penalty no matter what nationality you are. If your team is on the wrong side of that play you'd be screaming at the TV. Especially considering a goal was scored.

What's the point of having a cheap salary if you suck so bad the coach won't put you in. Hell I'd take any warm body at his position right now if they could come in play 25 games and not suck. I could post a large list of players that meet your requirements, but it would be pointless. All Osgood slappy's see is what's behind them. Thankfully this is the last season we have to have this discussion.

Guys are getting less and less patient waiting around for a chance to get to play. Not even 1 NHL game for him that I can recall. Shame.

In his prime he was the most ridiculous goalie of the modern era IMO. He still has that fire, but just like Chelios the body just won't cooperate.
