All the NHL cares about these days are the new fans. I totally understand wanting to get more people interested, but over the last few years the league has shown that they do not give a s*** about the "old" fans, and they are going to start losing some of them soon.

Maybe this is me being biased toward the West, but the East got their Winter Classic last year. It's our turn. Why not something like Minnesota and Colorado. Especially since the East only has like a couple really really good teams and the West has been so tough this year.

A lot of us were so young in the 90's, and I will admit that I probably didn't understand the full hockey aspect of the significance. I was only 7. But I will say that when you're a kid everything seems like good vs. evil to you, and it just made me realize there were my heroes. Like instead of hearing stories about princesses and dragons before bed, I would listen to my mom talk about how Claude Lemieux is evil but it's okay because McCarty beat the s*** out of him.

I gotta say, it's things like this that show just how great the history of the Detroit Red Wings really is. You guys are using the word "heritage," and there is no other word that fits better to describe it. I'm so proud to be a Wings fan.

Totally watched the video first thing this morning. This is the day that an innocent 7-year-old girl learned that there is evil in the world and that Darren McCarty will stop it.

I usually don't post before the game (superstition of mine) but today is a day of remembrance in Hockeytown, and I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet. This should get us all pumped up.

As long as our scorers show up, the Wings would be fine against Vancouver. They have Luongo, and that's it. The fans act like he is so great that he can single-handedly carry his team to the Cup. If that's the case then why wasn't he able to do that in previous years? Oh wait...they have Sammy this year. Maybe we should watch out. -

I'm not sure who I want to win this one. If LA wins then we can jump COL pretty easily. But if COL wins then LA will only be 2 points away from us so we could possibly catch 5th if the Preds stay in place.

Last October if you would have told me that the Wings would struggle to make the playoffs and the Coyotes would win the West and I would be nervous to face them in the first round, I would have checked you into a rehab clinic immediately. -
Absolutely. I always get excited for playoffs on the first nice week and wear my Red Wings gear more often than not. I've noticed too that tons of people on campus have been dressing up for the Wings this week. And usually when I'm running I have on my typical workout songs on my ipod. But the last couple days I have been working out to my Wings playoff gameday playlist. This happens every year for me and I'm sure it happens for most fans.
