Forsberg: Another Comeback attempt
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to swiss_redwingfan's topic in General
So how would this affect our ability to pick him up before the trade deadline? -
Offseason topic, Kronner's hit on Havlat

How many Red Wings does it take to screw in a light bulb? None. They make the Blackhawks do it for them. -
I don't get the Wings hatred around the league. I really don't. Of course not everyone is going to be a Wings fan. But it's like the Wings lost game 7 of the finals and now sports analysts and writers are salivating at the idea of the Wings going 0-82. All this talk about the Wings finally falling from their 15-ish years of greatness is just wishful thinking. The Wings are staying put at the top tier, and no amount of Red Wings doomsday predictions will make it otherwise.

I thought it was because we don't have enough fighting majors, didn't win the President's Trophy, have too many soft Euros, are too old, Osgood sucks, the Joe is too quiet, Downey wasn't in the lineup, and that Babcock hates Americans.
-
Even if you think we would get 2nd or 3rd that means we win the division. I don't think we will get 2nd or 3rd though. It's going to be 1st or a very very small chance at 4th. The Central is now the best division in the West with all 5 teams being very capable of making the playoffs. I think whoever wins the Central will also win the conference. I don't think San Jose, Anaheim, Vancouver, or Calgary are good enough where they would win the conference over Detroit or Chicago. Anaheim took a hit by losing Pronger. San Jose is in deeeep trouble and still doesn't have a complete team that can fit under the cap. So I don't think the Pacific winner will be #1. And I don't think Calgary and Vancouver are strong enough teams to pull it off either.
-
I love how their reason for San Jose to be #1 in the west is because they won the President's Trophy last year. That's pretty much all it says. Let's not take into consideration that they don't even have a full team signed yet and have very little cap room left. They really screwed up the West. They got the East about right but I would switch the Pens and Flyers.

Which Team Has a Better Chance of Making it Back to the Finals?
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
The Wings have a really good chance at making it back for these reasons: Factor in the hunger. After we lost the way we did in 2007 they got down to business for the 08 season and playoffs. The 09 playoffs was another heartbreaker so I expect them to get hungry again. Also the chance of having injuries as bad as we did in the 09 playoffs is soooo small. If we got that far on a plague of injuries, we can go much farther next year. Competition in the West. I don't see any western teams really giving the Wings a hard time in the playoffs, even though this is before the trade deadline. San Jose is a great team but they are not as good this year as they were last year. Last year was the year for them to win it all. They are a mess right now. The Ducks will be difficult but they lost Pronger who was always a big problem for the Wings. Calgary has some great players but they lack skill overall. They are mostly a bunch of tough slow guys. Chicago will be the biggest challenge. But let's remember that they lost Khabibulin and Huet is inconsistent. Hossa is out for the first part of the season so that will put them behind in the race to win the conference. They will be so tired from playing catch up all year. Those teams are what I consider to be the "great" teams of the West. The other teams that I didn't mention aren't even worth discussing at this point. The only thing I'm worried about is goaltending since Howard hasn't really proven that he can be solid and reliable. But whether he sucks or does a great job doesn't matter in the playoffs since we (hopefully) will have no need to use him. -
National writer: Don't bury Red Wings yet
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
It's about time someone thought that. I can't believe it. Wings lose game 7 in the finals coming off the previous year's victory and then it's "RIP Red Wings greatness." Something tells me this team is hungrier now. Just like they were very hungry coming off the heartbreaking 2007 loss. -
Red Wings player gets kicked out of bar tonight

I didn't see your hint before I posted my guess. So I should have known since that bar is at State that it was Abdelkader. -

I know someone who worked at the Black Finn in Royal Oak and he has informed me many times that Brett Lebda is there all the time and acts like an ******* because he knows the manager or something like that. Franzen and Ericsson are there a lot too but I heard they behave. -
I find this all strange that he hired hookers because he looks like he's twelve and sometimes I forget he's a grown up.

National TV schedule released
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Greatness=PavelDatsyuk's topic in General
Yeah especially considering the Pens aren't even in that game. -
What it will be (most likely) 1. Datsyuk 2. Zetterberg 3. Williams It was in this order when we had Williams so I see them going back to it. What it should be 1. Datsyuk 2. Bertuzzi 3. Filp I love Hank as much as the next girl but shootouts are not his forte.
-
That's exactly what happened. A Vancouver player did challenge Moore to a fight in the first period of the same game where Bertuzzi incident happened. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwKPI83hK3c
-
But Moore already fought with someone else during the first period of that game. Bert should have left him alone if he said he didn't want to fight.

McCarty waited so long because Lemeiux was suspended and then injured I believe. If I remember correctly that was the first time both McCarty and Lemieux were on the ice together after the incident. And I know McCarty said he was going to get revenge, but come on Lemieux shattered someone's face. What Moore did didn't really warrant the phrase "bounty on his head". Even McCarty didn't say anything like that. He just said revenge which was all that needed to be said.
-
Lemieux had to have known something was coming. Maybe not at that exact moment, but you don't just smash another player's face into a million pieces and not expect at least one teammate to go after you. You don't think Mac made any kind of threats to him during the warm up? The way I see it is that maybe Lemeiux did get sucker punched, but that is not worse than what he did to Draper. He got let off way easy considering what he did. This was one guy going after one guy. Moore also did something wrong with the cheap shot to Naslund, but let's not forget that the entire Vancouver Canucks team went after him and publicly threatened him in interviews. Brad May even stated that "there is a bounty on his head" in an interview which is ironic because that's exactly how it ended. The Moore hit on Naslund happened in February. The Bertuzzi incident happened in March. There was even a game in between where nothing happened between Moore and any Canucks player. Notice how they all waited for a blowout game and then decided to go after him. And also before the Bertuzzi incident, another Canucks player already fought Moore. You would think that a fight could be payment enough. But after the fight Bertuzzi still had to go after him. And the result of the neck breaking is much worse than what he did to Naslund. It doesn't matter if he intended to break his neck or not. The point is where Lemieux did something to warrant at least one good punch, Moore didn't really do anything to warrant an entire team of Canucks ganging up on him. To have someone stating publicly that there is a bounty on his head...that's just wrong.

I know Avery got six games PLUS anger management for talking crap for saying "sloppy seconds." That's not even a swear word or anything R-rated. Unlike what Kane did, Avery did not break the law. Avery didn't even break league rules and Bettman and his minions were just about to stone him to death. But Kane is still the little darling that everyone loves and the NHL wants no part in him being suspended.
-
But to have great hockey fans and a great hockey team that has been a dominant team for two decades is something much more rare.
-
Then why are you here?
-
Yeah except for the fact that the Pens had no fans until a few years ago and gave away front row seats for $8. They were in danger of losing their team too.
-
Okay I guess the question is if you don't think Detroit is Hockeytown, then what city is? Nashville's arena is loud but their team still hasn't won a playoff road game ever so I wouldn't say it's them. Pittsburgh's arena is loud but they were about to lose their team before St. Sidney came on board to save them. That is the definition of bandwagon, so I don't think it's them. Chicago is the same. No one started caring about their team until this year. Oh and their last Stanley Cup was in 1961 so I wouldn't go with Chicago as Hockeytown. People say Minnesota should be Hockeytown. And I agree they have a big hockey tradition there. But keep in mind they have never won a Stanley Cup ever and they lost their team the first time. A few years ago when Buffalo won the President's Trophy Sabres fans wanted to call their city Hockeytown. But their team has gone back to being pretty average and they still have no Stanley Cup to show for it.
-
More Stanley Cups than any American team (since Toronto and Montreal obviously cannot be Hockeytown, USA) More Stanley Cups than anyone in the last 12 years Longest active playoff appearance streak in all of professional sports (which is nearly two decades long) Stanley Cup victory lap tradition started by Ted Lindsay Three consecutive conference finals appearances When another team can do these things, they can be Hockeytown.

Hossa is going to summer camp while recovering from shoulder surgery?

I don't know how easily the charges can be dropped. A friend of mine got in a fight and was facing assault charges or something similar to that. The guy he fought didn't want there to be any charges at all because he didn't think it counted as assault. But the police and the court told both of them that it's not a civil case. Instead it's "The people v. whoever" so you can't just drop the charges. But this happened in Michigan. I don't know how it works in New York.
