My spring break is over and after dinner I have to drive back to school. 97.1 works for me up until I get close to East Lansing but then it doesn't work. What station can I switch it to when that happens? Thanks

Wings games on radio in Lansing area?
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Lovin Jiri Fischer's topic in General
I am a college student that makes $7.40 an hour. Are you serious? I know there is one in Lansing because earlier in the season, I was in someone else's car and we put the Wings on the radio when we were driving home. It was in the fall against the Rangers when Hossa scored his first goal. I don't remember the date though. Either way, I didn't find it but I made it back in time for the third. -
I would love to go to the first game. However, it will most likely be a week night since the last game is on a Sunday. I am in college, which is about a 2 hour drive to the Joe. I am too much of a nerd to go to the Joe on a school night. When I'm out of school...that's a different story. My birthday always falls on the second round and the week we get out of school. Usually my daddy gets tickets for my birthday.

Man I am so disappointed. I was on-call for work today and I was supposed to find out if I had to work or not at 1:30. So at 1:30 I called and they said they don't need me. So I was like "Okay sweet I can watch the Wings." It's 2 pm and the puck is about to drop and guess what I get a call from my boss saying she changed her mind and that I need to be there in half an hour. I missed everything. I know I shouldn't complain because I'm the epitome of the poor college student and the economy sucks so I should be thankful to have a job. But it sounds like I missed a great game that I actually thought I was going to watch.

Because with the money these guys make you'd think they would have the best skates money can buy.

3/12 GDT: Flames 6 at Red Wings 5 (SO)
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Everybody stop it! If you're an optimist, then you're a blind homer. If you're a pessimist then you're a bandwagoner. So where on this spectrum do you have to be to be considered normal? -

Either way you look at it, we should not have to score 6 goals to win a game, especially when we had a 3-goal lead at one point. T-minus one month till playoffs. Will the boys step it up, or will they choke? -
I think it's a great idea besides the fact that if we do it for the whole season, we will never know which goalie will perform better overall for both home and away games in the playoffs?

What do you think Wings/Boston would be?

I think he and Pavel would make the best acting duo

GM's want to give 10 minute misconduct penalty for fighting
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
Ummm I think players are still gonna do it anyway. Aren't most fighters proud of their PIMs since they don't put up points anyway? -
Dude! My brother thinks it's going to be a Habs-Wings final this year. He's already in the process of planning a road trip to Montreal this summer for us saying that we should go for the finals. I keep telling him that the Habs are not going to the finals and he insists that they are. He's crazy. (But on the other hand, he just turned 18 and he can legally drink in Montreal so I think that has something to do with him wanting us to go there for the summer, and that by telling me that the Habs will make the finals, he will convince me to want to go.)

All this talk about "getting injured while pursuing the #1 seed" is silly. These aren't sissy girls we are talking about. They are grown adult hockey players. Injuries happen regardless of what seed the team is pursuing. And I'm sure if there was an injury, Babcock will not be saying "The injury was all my fault. We should have never tried to win and then maybe this wouldn't have happened" in the post-game interview. And last time I checked, we have not mathematically clinched a playoff spot yet, so we kinda do still need to play to win. We can't just pick up and leave because we're scared of injuries anyway.

You don't need to apologize. I didn't mean to sound mean.

No. First place FOR SURE avoids the flames in the second round. Say Wings are #1, Sharks are #2 Flames are #3. Say all 3 of these teams make it to the first round, whoever is #1 doesn't play the flames because there will be one more team left that is 4th seed or 5th seed. 1st seed plays that team, while #2 and #3 play each other. Now what if the #2 seed doesn't make it out of the first round? #1 still won't play the flames because there will be a #7 seed left while the flames would have to play the winner of #4 vs #5. To sum up, whoever is the #1 will not play the Flames in the second round with a 100% guarantee

Here's the deal: Wings have only beaten the Sharks at home this year. Sharks have only managed to beat the Wings in San Jose. It's pretty obvious home ice is important. I understand that the games in San Jose were much closer than those in Detroit. But the point is neither team has won in the other team's building. We don't get "extra special close game points" in the playoffs anyway. If we clinch the conference, there is a 100% guarantee we won't have to play Calgary in the second round which is a plus. I know first place doesn't really mean anything for regular season, but isn't it better to have your team go into playoffs fighting for something instead of being like "Okay well whatever. It doesn't matter. Let's just vacation" and then have to turn it on for the playoffs? We won the President's Trophy in 2008 and 2002, the last two times we won the Cup. I say go for it.

Would the Wings be better off had they Pursued Goalie Instead of Hossa
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to a topic in General
Wait so the Wings didn't sign a goalie in the offseason? Why is it so hard for people to give Conklin the benefit of the doubt when he hasn't given us much of a reason to worry this season? I understand that his stats weren't the best maybe years ago. But Ozzie won us a Stanley Cup last year. Times change. -

Thoughts after tonight's game: Our incredible offense bailing us out night after night at the start of the season has finally caught up with us. This is what happens in games where we turn into "average/normal" offense and can't score 5+ goals every night. I love Ozzie a lot. I have loved him since I was a tiny child. However, if he wants to be a Stanley Cup winning goalie again, he's gonna have to learn how to bail out his team when the defense is terrible. That is a goalie's job-to be the last resort of defense. We should not be able to call a goal on a breakaway before he even shoots. Even Dom stopped those. I don't care that Conklin is a career backup. So was Ozzie for the majority of his career and he got us two Cups. I don't understand how people still want Ozzie in net in spite of his obvious decline from last year. But at the same time, these same people are worried about Conklin not performing well in the playoffs when he hasn't really given us a reason to doubt him so far this season. It blows my mind. Back at the first half of the season everyone said we would be fine and to not worry until March. It is now March, yet it still isn't appropriate to worry because we are "fair weather fans." So when exactly is it okay to start worrying? When we are down three games to one in the first round? Watchmen wasn't really that good. -

Back at the beginning of the season: "Oh it's only November. It's okay. I won't worry until it's March." Guess what? IT'S MARCH! -

WTF happened to our team? -
It would be so much fairer if next year, Arby's gives away free sandwiches for every shutout. Of course then we will hattricks every night and no shutouts for the whole season.
