Now that Homer's gone, how are we gonna manage to get some goals taken back by O'Halloran?
-
Washington is on the Virginia border, so no it is not north of Philly. It might be pretty close to being on the same level as St. Louis and Denver, but keep in mind that Denver is much colder because of the altitude.

I know. He looks so little next to Hank

LOL at Gretzky

Ozzie has GOT to step it up. I don't care how many goals are his fault or not, but if this is all the fault of the defence, then Ozzie needs to learn to bail them out and make up for it.

why can't the NHL have a salary cap like baseball?
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to FLWINGSFAN4013's topic in General
I think a good idea would be for players that a team drafted to not count toward the cap, or to have it higher for drafted players. This would encourage teams to draft and develop their own home-grown talent rather than buy a bunch of players. -
I've found really cheap tickets before on ebay. You might want to try that if the Red Wings box office isn't going to work. Also I don't know if you can find an FSN Detroit feed to watch games, but sometimes they will have a deal and announce 2 tickets for $44 if you call before the second intermission. It sounds like a great deal, but you need to be watching to get it.

2/2 GDT: Blues 3 at Red Wings 4, (SO)
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
How about a successful record? Or making the playoffs (we can't make the playoffs with 70-something points, so we kinda do need to win regular season games) It's not liek we're going to automatically make it without effort. With your logic, I might as well stay home and never go to class, because I can just turn it on for finals and get a 4.0. Nothing works that way. -

So that means its okay for any team to play like crap for an entire season if they like and expect to magically turn it on for playoffs and win the Cup? Not saying we are playing like crap or anyone else is. But if the regular season doesn't matter then why are we watching? Why are they even playing? Why not just skip the rest of the season and start playoffs now? And wanna know why no one was complaining when the Wings were playing well? Because then there was no reason to complain. But right now there is. -

Osgood has worst save percentage in the league
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Dave Anderson's topic in General
As much as I think the defense is failing this year, defense has absolutely nothing do to with save %. Ozzie can let in 2 out of 10 shots with a great defense, or 20 out of 100 shots with a bad defense. Either way, the save % is still the same. -
Should the Red Wings Fire Assistant Coach Brad McCrimmon?
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Winged_Wheeler's topic in General
I'm not saying that he made them bad. But chemistry is just as important for coaches as it is for players. I take it from me becuse I used to coach a high school team (althought not hockey) and learned how important it is to fit in. In high school, I came from one of the best programs in the state. But that did not help me out when it came to fitting in with the team I was coaching. I didn't like their policies or agree with how they did things. I did not fit into their system at all becuse I was used to doing things a certain way. Just like in Miracle when Herb Brooks said that he's not looking for the best players, he's looking for the right ones. The same thing goes for coaches. McCrimmon might not be a bad coach, but he doesn't seem to be the right one at the moment. -

That's the point. We have the exact same defense who played amazingly under one coach last year and is failing under a new coach this year. Sounds like McCrimmon doesn't fit. -

But owners love him for some reason, so the survey is probably a combination. -
Osgood proves he doesn't deserve No. 1 spot
Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Wingsallwin's topic in General
Even if the whole "defense plays better in front of Conklin than for Osgood" argument is true, then that still means that Conklin needs to be the #1 starter so we have the better defense. -

Lovin Jiri Fischer replied to Wingsallwin's topic in General
I love Ozzie as much as the next person, but this has gone on long enough. Back at the beginning of the season, everyone was saying "Oh it's only October. It's only November. It's not time to worry yet." Well it's going to be February the day after tomorrow. We've got about two months left of the season. So when exactly will it be time to worry? I do agree that the entire team needs to pick it up, especially the defense. But how can we expect to win sixteen games in the playoffs letting in 3 or 4 goals per game? I'm not expecting Osgood to be perfect, but as some people have said, it is his job to save us when the defense messes up. Yeah we were shorthanded a lot during the first period. But we're going to be shorthanded sometimes. We're going to get penalized. And Osgood needs to be there for us when it happens. And yes there were breakaways that led to San Jose winning. And we know that's the defense's fault and that we should never let that happen. But when there's a breakaway, Ozzie needs to be ready to save us. It's his job. Right now, it's at the point where if there's a breakaway or a penalty, I'll predict that we get scored on. The defense is going to allow shots on goal. No defense is completely perfect. But if the goalie isn't going to be able to stop those shots that the defense allows, then they are playing basketball, not hockey. -
The team has been a little off the entire season. I don't remember the last time we played a complete 60 minute game.
