Wings get an 'A' for Plan B

Passionate fans should understand, this isn't NHL 2K7 where you can put together a team with Crosby Ovechkin and Datsyuk all on the same line with Brodeur in net and Lidstrom and Pronger being your two top D-Men. There is a salary cap, and players are demanding way more then their worth.

    We need a forward

Based on that article, I think he wants to get one more forward slotted in before the season. Just my opinion. But I would be just fine waiting until the trade deadline when the cellar teams are desperate to give up soon-to-be UFA's. Nothin to do but sit and wait.

you think Holland doesn't know we need a another forward? DETROIT -- Now that they've signed goalie Dominik Hasek, the Wings have one key roster spot to fill. They'd like to get a forward to make up for losing Robert Lang, Todd Bertuzzi and Kyle Calder to free agency. There are some interesting options, including Peter Forsberg, Alexei Yashin and former Red Wing Brendan Shanahan. "I'd like to sign one more NHL forward between now and training camp," general manager Ken Holland said Friday. "I'm talking to a couple people. You get calls every day, more agents are calling. For us it comes down to price."

I don't see how someone could call our offence pathetic. Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom, and Draper have already proved their worth. Hudler got garbage minutes last year and still managed what, 15 goals? I'm ready to see what he can do getting 3rd line shifts. And to go along with that, after all of the waiting we'll finally get to see if Grigorenko pans out to what scouts have him hyped up to be. The bitchin needs to stop. I think its safe to say we now have the best defence in the league, one of the best goalies of all time and all people can think to do is piss and moan because we didnt sign Briere, Drury, or Smyth to a 6 year 65 million dollar deal? Get over it. Overspending teams go nowhere. And I'm almost sure Holland will have a few surprises near the trade deadline.

The most likely reason we wouldn't get Penner is because of what Anaheim will "suggest" in return (easily 4 first round picks). As far as Burke is concerned, I can't see him having TOO much leverage in Penners decision. By picking up Schneider and Bertuzzi they have used up a lot of cap room. Everything depends on the decisions of Neidermeyer and Selanne if they choose to retire, there will be plenty of caproom to keep Penner aboard.

As is my concern. Giving up 5-6 mill per season for Penner is one thing. Giving up 5-6 Mill per season and giving up 4 first round picks is another. For this reason and the lack of talent left in the UFA's is what makes me think Holland won't pull anything off until the deadline. The Wings never have a problem winning during the regular season, but injuries or lack of toughness during playoffs seems to be our downfall. I think this year Hollands gonna get it right at the deadline, he was on the right track with Bertuzzi last season but things didn't work out as expected.
