They'll go to camp...Blashill and co will take a look at what they have and sort it out. Injuries and performance issues can be addressed as the season wears on. I'd love to see what Marchenko, Oullet and Jensen can do in the NHL, but if the guy who coached them in the AHL doesn't think they're good enough yet, so be it. Truthfully...Smith and KQ could be a really good 3rd pairing.

To add to the discussion... http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/07/red_wings_draft_pick_vili_saar.html Flint wants him to play there...he wants to play in Flint...and the Wings want him to play in Flint. So much for the notion that he was so bad in the USHL that he's running home to Finland...

Good...thanks to number9, I don't have to post anything further...

On guys with more than two attempts in shootouts last year...Oshie would be 2nd on the Wings. I'm not going to bother to dig...but how many of the guys you listed had a few attempts...like less than 5? Oshie may not be the best in the league...but he's better than most of the guys we have. Plus I'll always enjoy the Russian broadcast of his GW against the Russians at Sochi...the sound of defeat and despair in that guy's voice transcended the language barrier

Abby is money on break aways...can't figure out why Babcock didn't use him in shootouts. His prowess on shootouts is just about the only reason I'd want Oshie here...

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Agreed...that's why I liked our decision to draft young Mr Sarvi... -

Where he fit in DC isn't relevant to where he fits in here....they're two different teams.... -

Yep...I'll surely trust the judgement of Caps fans over Kenny Holland when it comes to evaluating NHL talent. -

Oxycodones are nice....I took them while recuperating from a serious injury a few years ago. They made me feel so good that I pitched them after a week even though the pain was still excruciating. I know how to deal with pain...no idea how to deal with being an addict and I could see a really high potential for addiction to Oxycodone -

The Joe is a dump...it required a waiver on safety regulations IIRC to even open. By all means tear it down...it's not like it's some remarkable example of architectural genius. I hope the same kind of mistakes aren't repeated in the design of the new building. -
Soooooo....Boston then on a three year deal?
-
Athanasiou played a fair amount of C last year too....

Reasonable cap hit and signed for two years...nice trading chip -
Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason
Shinzaki replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Yes...that's it exactly...Ken Holland doesn't want to win the cup..he's only pretends to. -
Stamkos was a big, derfy pylon against us...that little motherf...Johnson killed us. If you can play..you can play. Do I want 6 5-10ish Dmen? No...but I don't want a unit full of 6-4 225lb sloths either. I'll have rom for a smaller slick skater puck moving PP running Dman every day and I won't care if he isn't a poster child for ideal "measurables" Sarvi can skate, he did very well against high end competition in the U18 tournament , he shoots RH and his names is cool...besides..the league doesn't want you to graab guys on the chip and chase..they barely want you to touch them. Hard body checks...other than the big crosscheck in the corner are drawing more penalties and suspensions. That puts a premium on dmen that can turn their feet and keep guys in front of them as they move into the zone..it's almost like defending the baseline in basketball. You can't let that guy get a step and turn the corner. That puts a premium on skating.

Erik Karlsson is 5-11ish and about 180....I'd do cartwheels if we had that guy. I'll bet Sarvi could grow into someone close to that size easily.
-
The thing with Stamkos is that Cooper kind of shoved it up his arse in the playoffs...he made him serve a bench minor IIRC. Just how fractured is that relationship? I get the cap issues...but if i'm Boston, I trade everything I can before I let a guy like Hamilton walk. So far as their draft goes...I wonder if Neely is telling Sweeney "I said draft Sensyshen with the 3rd round pick...not the the third pick"

I've seen Saarijarvi listed at 5-10...and he's only 18. Give him a few years to develop and you might have a 5-10, 190 lb RH defensman who can fly. If he doesn't fill out you have a RH Adam Almqvist who can skate and that still might be good enough to make it. Hell...the Adam Almqvist who couldn't skate as well almost made it. Hicketts? who knows...there seems to be so much offensive upside there, but 5-8 might be too short even for me. Thanks to hockeystreams.com and Roku...I've seen a lot of nick Jensen over the past two years. He's an NHL caliber dman. I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get a real shot at camp this year
-
We signed KQ last year on FA day...even on one ankle he was very effective last year. He's not very flashy, doesn't try to lay the big hits that draw penalties and suspensions, but he uses his body and leverage around the cage better than anyone else we have
-
He's not able to play at GR...another year in juniors, a year or two to get used to playing in a faster, closer checking style in the AHL and then we should have a top six power forward if all goes to plan.
-
Mrazek looks like the future....but we don't know how well Mrazek will play over the course of a full NHL season. Howard is coming off an injury plagued, inconsistent year, but I'd still rather have him ready to step in and play as the number 1 if Mrazek falters. Let the season play out...hopefully they both play up to potential and then you can look at moving Howard and finding a solid back up. Howard will be worth much more if he's playing like an all star with only three years left on his deal than he is now
-
Or a guy with limited projection....
-
The season as been saved...Kenny drafted a 6-4 Dman. Yay!
-
Perry was picked last year...how is he getting anywhere a hell of a lot sooner than a guy picked this year?
-
Holland drafted Athanasiou, Nyquist and Pulks in the 4th round...if he wants to take a big center like Pearson in the mid rounds..who's heading to Nyquist's alma mater for college...I'll let him.
